I once heard Frank Bruno say that he was aware of his limitations as a boxer. He said he knew he didn't have the natural ability of Ali, Sugar Ray etc. He said he thought that what he lacked in talent, he could make up for with hard work.
His trainers would seem to back this up. I heard his trainer say that, boxers are often lazy and need to be pushed. Bruno was the opposite. He needed to ne stopped from overtraining. He worked hard for everything he achieved. I have nothing but respect for him.
That's why England looks at him as the hero. England loves Frank because of that very reason. Very humble guy. Even to this day Frank still gets the accolades while Lennox doesn't. Fortunately Lennox understands that now and sees why. After boxing Lennox has been very low key. Bruno came pretty close to winning this fight but Lennox survived and the rest is history
Up to "that punch" from Lewis when he was cornered, I'd have said Bruno was winning this. The story of Frank Bruno, right there, so near but yet so far on quite a few occasions. What great heart he had.
One punch, in boxing, & everything changes radically - elementary brother
@@RingJando Bruno could never capitalise when he'd hurt his opposition, as you say, one punch, roles reversed. At least he did win the much coveted WBC, genuine title against McCall. He did manage to stay away just enough at the end of that bout.
I agree with the previous poster, above me. Bruno had trouble finishing the really good boxers off. There’s no doubt that he was winning the fight on points up to then.
The finish was dramatic; Bruno had rocked Lewis (not for the first time) and rushed in for the kill but left himself open. Lewis caught him with a thunderous left cross and Bruno had nothing left after that, he was dazed.
In all the hype and verbal sparring before the fight, I often wonder if Lewis had underestimated Bruno. On the night he was giving him all sorts of trouble and rocked him a few times. But Lewis was mobile, quick to recover from a heavy shot, had the technical nous and got himself out of jail.
Tough luck on Bruno, but just as with Bonecrusher and Witherspoon, he couldn’t finish Lewis off.
By round 4 Bruno was missing with so many punches it was unreal, Lewis' head movement was insane. Jabs that Bruno were landing were overstretched taps, Lewis jabs were snapping Bruno's head back every time. Haters don't see this though
@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV He wasn't missing lots, you are exaggerating. Lewis' head movement was insane, you say - he was getting tagged often enough, not least with jabs. Whenever Lewis wasn't backing off and was hitting Bruno, Bruno was hitting back cleanly with solid jabs. Lewis did indeed land some good jabs, but he wasn't throwing often enough to be winning the fight.
I heard Tyson and Lennox talking about Frank. Both of them said that it is laughable to say he had a glass chin. Mike said, "I hit him with everything I had and he didn't go down."
Lennox was similarly complimentary
Yes Frank didn't go down, but once caught he became Helpless and disorientated, and couldn't cover up, but defo no glass chin tho
Absolutely - look at the number of punches James Bonecrusher Smith had to hit him with before he went down. Frank's problem was he seemed to suffer from brain freeze when he took a good shot on the chin.
@@paulwilliams8389, because he didn't have a good chin. Just because he didn't hit the deck, it doesn't change that.
@@chriswilliamson7694 Glass chin is defined as being easily knocked down/out. Bruno was the opposite of that. His biggest deficiency was an absence of strategy. He wore his heart on his sleeve in the ring and it was like wearing a target.
I agree with you. You learn more from a competitor speaking about you or a competitor’s trainer than you do from almost anyone else. Bruno did not have a glass chin. Any fighter can get caught with a lucky punch though, like Lennox - McCall 1.
Lennox is my favorite all time though.
I met Mr. Lewis in a hotel elevator in Miami Beach FLA several years ego ; though I was half his size, not boxing knowledgeable , he starter a conversation and was friendly and gentle; he left I a great impression and I have been his fan ever since; this is another great one Champ...
I remember you mayn wow so good u watching glad u well. Keep it up champ 💪👀
Bruno was one gear short from an amazing fighter. Still much loved thou in Britain!
O homem dos ternos.
@@marcosdesouzadias1658 is that 2 suits or suit man? My portugise is not that great!
Tbh, the fighters who beat Bruno were pretty decent.
I was there that night. My dad and I were both there in the audience
30:05 Tremendous left hook from Lewis.
Bruno gave Lewis a tremendous fight. He had Lennox rocking on several occasions. This is
perhaps the only time Lennox faced someone physically stronger than himself.
Lennox Lewis was the best technical boxer ever, and I have to give you that what you have said,no one could ever match Lewis
@@rambo235 we obviously didn't watch the same fight ..... you didn't even read the top comment correctly
Total nonsense. Bruno never landed a meaningful punch. He was just peppering him. Bruno lacked killer instinct and Lewis was just waiting on his opportunity
@rambo235 Lewis never fought anyone and the big names he fought they were washed up fighters
@@sagelight7777 14:38; Never landed a meaningful punch ??
If Bruno has as much ability as he had enthusiasm, he would be a GOAT without question.
A nanny goat 😂😂😂😂
Lennox Lewis won here, but this Frank Bruno is no weakling. I say that ,Frank Bruno 👍!!!
Bruno was good, Lewis was better but gets more credit in the US than UK
Dont forget Bruno was the first to hurt Tyson in a fight. He clipped Mike early and wobbled him. Mike recovered and went to work. Tyson never gets enough credit for always fighting giant opponents. Taller, longer, and bigger heavyweights. Respect to all of these warriors.
Tucker was first to rock Tyson but you are right
@DaDominicanDawg I just watched it again. Brunos was better but I will concede. Tucker was the first to catch Tyson clean.
@@patrickflug4605 agreed 💯
Tyson whooped him twice. Lewis avoided Tyson during that time for a reason. Tyson is like a pit bull versus a bunch of great Danes. He proved you could be under 6 feet tall and still dominate really tall giants.
@@patrickflug4605 and we go back to this, i actually correct myself, the first to shake up Tyson was no other than Bonecrusher Smith, watch that last round, he had Tyson dancing a bit
American Ref: God Bless You.
British Ref: Dont give me any s**t.
Frank didn't know how to end that fight. It's like football. You can play very well for 90 minutes, but if you don't know how to goal, the other oponent will.
Lewis was a bag of dirty tricks
@@joaogrande8846 I know. He ain't 💩
At two o’clock in the morning in Cardiff brings back memories
Same. I was there and was nearly falling asleep when they came out. 🙂
Yes, I was there - also had the privilege of seeing Joe Calzaghe's first professional fight on that night.
I will say lewis became a great champion.
One of the biggest myths in boxing was that Bruno had a suspect chin. It`s actually the exact opposite. There are perhaps
only 3-4 fighters that have ever lived who could have taken that left hook from Lennox and stayed on their feet. Lennox is
a truly devastating puncher, but even he couldn`t put Frank on the canvass.
Bruno's chin was better than what a lot have said. However, every big shot seemed to daze him to the point he couldn't think straight. In this fight and many others, he'd have been in a far better position if he'd have taken a count. It'd have given him an extra 15-20 seconds that was sorely needed.
Dubois reminds me a little of Bruno. Slightly stiff, orthodox european style heavyweight with a good jab and a big right cross. Bruno was the better boxer BUT I have to say I was impressed by Dubois' decision making in a crisis against Kevin Lerena. He repeatedly took counts to give himself more time for recovery. Being rational in a ring is a good sign and sometimes Bruno lacked this.
@@Jimbo8012 With respect Alex, you seem to be taking something of a liberty with the word "daze". Some of the punches
that, as you say..."Dazed" Bruno, would have flattened countless other heavyweights. The point I was making is that
Bruno was able to take punches that would have finished most boxers. Tim Witherspoon himself said he could have
seen off 3-4 fighters with the blows he landed on Frank. But Frank just kept on fighting. To say "every big shot seemed
to daze him to the point he couldn`t think straight" is meaningless. That applies to EVERY fighter; Hence the phrase;" Big
shot". That is why it`s a "big shot"..........it caused an effect.
Only 3 or 4 fighters who ever lived could take that left hook? That’s a ludicrous statement. Ali, Holyfield, Foreman, Liston, Jeffries, Chuvalo, Klitschko V, Bowe, Holmes - all of those guys would have taken that shot and dealt with it better than Bruno and many of them come back to win the fight…
They both had rabbit punching sessions in there
Yeah I don't think Bruno had a problem with eating big shots. I just wonder: Isn't there a situation where it's best to actually fall and take a count, potentially recover a little bit, instead of keeping up and just waiting for the KO?
This was a great fight. Bruno fought very well, but lewis was a deadly finisher top 3 of all Time. But True boxing fans wouldnt ridicule big frank , only a handful of elite fighters beat him. Both Lewis and Bruno great ambassadors for the sport.
Everyone talks about Lennox' heavy right hand but it was a wild left hook that nearly took Bruno's head off.
Very good scrap...best I saw Bruno fight ...
Bruno did well, Lewis was just a better fighter.
Lewis truly was a talented ruthless fighter that had it all !
Well said my friend Lennox Lewis schooled everyone in front of him, even his 2 losses he came back to defeat them
Indeed he did,, could well be the best heavyweight of all time!🥊🥊
@stuartrhodes7352 that's a lie
lol you must be joking@@stuartrhodes7352
Frank Bruno was winning the fight
Great Lennox !!! Very Strong !!! In the year 2003 win versus vitali Klitschko
Lewis best heavyweight ever imo.... no one he couldn't beat
Well said my friend I totally agree with you greatest boxer on planet earth
@@rambo235 greatest heavyweight boxer ever..... big, fast, accurate, smart.... he lost 1 fight with a lucky punch that he didn't see coming.... as I think about it, that was my opinion 5 years ago for the last 20+ years.... , but Tyson Fury is definitely moving near the top - never seen a guy that big move like that
@@steveb6718 2 fights, cold clocked both times...
Lewis got oneshoted by Nobodys, beat only old ppl out of Prime, got 2 titles free. Lewis was a kek
@@steveb6718you are crazy he never beat anybody in there prime he beat those fighters when they were washed up. And he got knocked out by bums man get out of here with that mess
Nice, that left hook completely took out Bruno.
amazing
I love how Lewis was asleep until the fourth round and then Bruno's head started growing bigger 😊
love the two boxers both brill
Lewis started a little cold in this one but steadily worked his way towards the win.
It's just a matter of time before Lennox gets the upper hand
Frank Bruno somehow reminds me of a well trained Arsenio Hall :D
I Love Frank Bruno 💪🏾✨✨
He remains a great boxing champion! 🥊⭐⭐⭐
Not really
Bruno was doing good. He was close to a win. SO sorry. I always thought he lacked the warrior spirit.... that makes u feel like destroying the opponent completely with no mercy.
That Lewis jab borders on the obscene. When he went to work with it no-one was immune.
If Lewis faced the prime Tyson he would not stand a chance
trainer said'Frank dont make mistakes' but to be fair lennox is one of the greatest i have seen and big Frank was at his best in this fight...on another night he would have won.Bless und love.
I respect the referee for making them touch gloves this is boxing which is different from MMA where the fighters if they have a beef they don't always but at the end of a flight MMA fighters will show total respect whether they win or lose❤❤❤
Bruno was winning the rounds but one mistake and he was gone. Lennox proved himself the champion of champions.
garbage .
I believe the audience had a microphone as their voices are much more audible to me compared to the commentators.
true :)
Top ref.
Nice
Looking back I suppose it would be foolish to expect Lennox Lewis to just brush aside Frank Bruno who was an experienced professional who'd boxed at the highest level.
You watch Bruno's face after being punched with a solid punch it's written "good night!"
"Bruno will never, never, be champion of the world.." well commentator got that wrong 😆
All be it only for three months but still he did win the title

Once Lewis caught him at the end, Bruno was helpless.
But until that point, he fought a brilliant fight.
Came very close to knocking Lewis out, only for it to slip away...
Bruno looked so good here. Wish we had a Bruno Vs Holyfield! That would've been awesome!
Lol. Holyfield would have put Bruno on his arse in round one.
No chance. Bruno was a strong fighter@@paulgraham6316
@@paulgraham6316 I doubt it would have been in round one - it took Lewis until the seventh. Holyfield would certainly have outboxed him and stopped him at some point, probably in the middle rounds.
3rd time was the charm for Bruno
Bruno should have focused more on Lewis’s body, his 1/2-ton power punch would have been too much for Lewis.
Bruno took this fight to Lewis and was ahead for the first 5 rounds. But he was beginning to gas a little and got caught by a swing from Lewis after which Lewis pummeled Bruno and a TKO ensued. They both fought gallantly and credit to Bruno for not being floored. Still, Lewis was not yet the finished product.
Haha well put. Ten out of 10 👏
The real shame for Frank Bruno was that you only needed to get one decent combination against him and the match was over, this happened several times throughout his career when he was on top in fights. If he was better at taking punishment he would have been a real force in boxing
No, what he needed was a better jab, not a better chin.
I was SCREAMING at Lewis to throw a left, and he finally did. Lennox, wherever you are… you’re welcome
I think Tyson vs Bruno fights were more ferocious than this.Tyson hit Bruno very fastly and powerfully like a Rhino.
Congratulations Lennox
Every fight fan hates Lewis because at some point he beat their fave fighter, Bruno was my fave fighter... but History will have Lewis going down as the GOAT.
The referee was the hardest man in this fight!!
Lennox 😊
Lewis is legend
Thats called some one takeing a fall and not really falling , lol.
Frank weighed in at this fight 238 lbs. Lennox weighed in at 235 lbs. Frank was doing great. I just feel Frank could of done with being 230 lbs instead of 238 lbs. Because that would of helped his fitness better in the middle rounds. I felt Frank was on the heavy side. His punches would of been better and his movement also. Very bad luck Frank. I so wanted Frank to beat Lennox.
Lewis gặp Bruno cả 2 đôi công xem hấp dẩn.
Bruno was cheating the whole fight. Holding Lewis by the back of the head, punching him in the back of the head during the clinch, and Lewis was motivated by it.
Frank did that in every fight & got away with it. Not this time.
One with the eye of the Tiger, one without. Bruno had it all, cept he just did not have eye of the Tiger as they say.
@igor putin Go back to School and learn some English Noddy.
Bruno was good for sure, but he lacked stamina too I’m afraid…
@@Arianrhod6 Yeah, he tired fast.
Made better by having the commentator hardly discernable. When he was, he just spoiled it. Tell them to keep it shut during the round.
Lennox Lewis got the lucky punch at the end and stopped Frank Bruno other wise Bruno would have beaten him on points.
Bruno was very powerful. Lewis at that point had not learnned keep opponents at bay with his jb and later he was bigger and more powerful.
Had to have True Brit on front of shorts to have psychological impact
Lewis had an uncanny ability to pace Himself patiently letting the opponent get overconfident-then knew when his opponent was vulnerable. At that point -Turn up attack. Bruno fought valiantly but was wearing down by the 6th/7th
Lenox is a fighter and dangerous too
Harry Carpenter says some thought that Bruno was a bit heavy at 17 stone (238 lbs). Lord knows what they would make of Fury’s weigh in’s then. But does it matter if the job gets done?
Looking at the size of Lewis here compared to the Lewis that fought Holyfield.......Lewis must have been eating his greens 😳
Soon as he went to kronk he started getting bigger
Roids.
They say AJ is like Frank...not even close..that was a good scrap not much hugging
That's why they used to call him Frank the plank
Never follow !"
A Puncher !
If you don't Have,
An Educated Jab !
Also the ref tried
To give Bruno a rest
Good old Frank Bruno, could always be relied on to give a good account of himself until he got hit anywhere around the head. Gave his career best performance in the loss to a very ordinary Tim Witherspoon, got a gift vs. Jumbo Cummings when he clearly should have been rescued in round 2, and it was a measure of how he was favoured when, astonishingly, he was somehow officially ahead on points when he got stopped by James Smith.
Always gave his best, though.
Frank you blew 4 world title fights 2xTyson..1xweatherspoon ..1xlewis...you weren't good enough

Lennox finally had enough of Bruno's dirty tactics.
BRUNO GOT BEATEN BYBTHEM BEST BOXER ....EVER LENNOX- THE LION- LEWIS ....SIMPLE REALLY !💖🇬🇬🇬🇧🥳🥳🥳
Thought umpire should have postponed the days play earlier
Bruno could have sent Lewis back to Canada!
Lewis is British
Frank be like: Ok, let's jab all night long. 😅
Announcers mixed too low and crowd noise way to high jesus.
Lewis was born to Jamaican parents - early childhood he grew up in England, and then moved with his mother to Canada. So, tell me what he is, ok?
Nationality is just a paperwork exercise. He was who he was.
@@justbreakingballs Exactly - boxing is an individual sport anyway.
the referee didn't see how lewis was held by the neck and hit by franc, but he saw the reverse, a very badly run duel the referee should change the profession
Yy,,. ......
,
if only bruno learnt to throw the right hand
Had Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson in 1993, he would have been knocked out in the first round. However, in 2002, Lennox had grown significantly both in size and skill, whereas Tyson was merely fighting for Money
Bruno adopted the wrong plan, Bruno should of stepped up the gear and apply pressure constantly and not give Lewis any rest for 6 rounds And Bruno would win
Bruno could have beaten both champions, looking at his both fights you could see healthwise something was wrong, seems like he had a severe injury especially of his head, you could see that there was something limiting him.
Bruno's corner told him to use his right more and that when Lewis was able to get to bruno and win the fight. Bad advice from the corner man Terry lawless at the end of the 6th round
Lawless and Bruno split years before this ye part time glancer- thats George Francis- try harder!🤣😆🤭
Why did Bruno freeze?
Frank bruno❤❤❤
30:25 What was the referee doing here? Why pull Lewis away from Bruno? That made no sense at all.
BRUNO was actually physically stronger than LEWIS , LEWIS just over came BRUNO's power & eventually won the fight with better stamina
big joke.Lewis is stronger
@@babym.j8527 even OLIVER McCALL said the most physically strongest Man he ever fought was FRANK BRUNO, & he fought both LEWIS & BRUNO ............ You can see how LEWIS was the one backing up, & on the inside it was clearly BRUNO backing up LEWIS throughout the fight . LEWIS was just faster with better stamina , but if both men go to a weight room, and have a BENCH PRESS contest, i ganrantee you BRUNO would win
@@entertainingsportshighligh7525 But weight canot win boxing. If that is the case how Bruno was KO by Mike Tyson twice.Bruno is not a match for Lewis and Tyson. Both are stronger and better better boxer than him.During Tyson match Bruno was always hugging him due to fear.
Lennox was naturally larger and stronger than Frank but for this fight trained himself down from 17 1/2 stone to 16 stone 5 for speed in what looked to be an error of judgement as Bruno effectively could push him around and Lennox lost one of his usual tools which is the way he pushed opponents away on the break and/or leaned on them to sap their energy. Hell of a punch though to chicken leg Frank with one punch, it took other fighters entire barrages to get him into that state.
The power of Lewis was based on strong and effective jab....Really he had amazing jab
If Bruno was boxing now he’d of won a heavyweight title I don’t think he’d stand much of a chance against the top heavyweights I think Usyke would destroy him If Lewis was in his prime he would destroy all of the current heavyweights Goat he would of made mincemeat out of Usyke and Fury and all the other heavy’s by round six Bruno’s tank was nearly empty
Actually, Bruno has already won... but he was lulled by the temporary pleasure... just try it, he was intending to beat Lenox at the end... surely he can do it instead of turning over
Bruno is a good fighter but he does not have finishing and also get tired quick
Bruno went by power and weight more than tactic why what he failed at. Trying to make an opening instead of finding. Made him not go a full distance besides mcall.
