This bike has been off the road for over a year.
THIS IS PART 2 of a series of six videos, they document the service work required to get the bike back on the road.
In this video, Part 2, I will drain and replace the oil from the engine, gearbox, shaft drive & final drive housing. I will show how to remove and refit the engine oil filter, then how to remove the Air filter and petrol pipe assembly.
The other videos will show in detail the following tasks:

This video show clips of what’s covered in the other five videos, we will then prepare the bike for the service: Remove the engine crash bar and leg shields. I’ll show you the best way I have found to remove petrol tank. Then we will remove both carburettors.

How to completely strip, clean, and assemble the Bing carburettors, I will show you every air and petrol way within the carb and how to make sure they are clear. I won’t be using an ultra-sonic cleaner in case you haven’t got one, they are not an essential tool, but they are rather good at cleaning carburettors!

How to change the points, set the points gap, then adjust and set the ignition timing.

How to cut and build a new petrol pipe assembly. How to fit a new air filter. How to assemble the carburettors to the engine, connect their cables, and adjust float height in the float chamber.
IN PART 6: • R75/6 Part 6. BMW, Air...
How to set the Bing carburettors to their basic settings, then tune and balance both carburettors as the engine is running. Last of all it’s a road test.
This video is so straightforward and clear, and this man has such an easy and gentle way of explaining that inspires confidence. He puts all other instructional videos on the topic to shame. I have the same r75/6, and after watching this video just once I could perform the entire procedure on my own from memory. Well done sir.

@@CYC123 Thanks for the reply. I really want to change my brake fluids and bleed, but I'm nervous about that one. That's one that I have always had someone else do. I think if I saw it done on a bike my age (1976 r75/6) I would have more confidence. A lot of the videos on bleeding brakes are modern bikes and many using special tools to make the job easier.
@@obeythezippy Hello, sorry for the delay in replying to your comment. Bleeding brakes, a fairly easy procedure if you have performed it before. As it happens it’s time to change the brake fluid in my front brake. I will video the process and publish. Unfortunately not sure when I can get to it, I’m quite busy at the moment. Nicely executed! I bought a 1975 R75/6 that was in multiple pieces ive gone thru everything using the manual but this video is the cats meow! now I actually understand what needs to be done to get the petrol line replaced.

Jim, greetings from Arizona. I can't thank you enough. Video 2 answered my questions in great detail. My daughter in law inherited a 1975 R75/6. Her Dad bought it new ,and treated it like the crown jewls! I'm helping her out (a huge thrill an old Harley guy). You're help was paramount!

Drive shaft oil is 100cc for shortwheel base models then 150cc for longer whee base models

Thank you for the comment, I don't think we have a long wheel based version in the UK, I will have to do some research.
Makes sense though to have more oil if the shaft is longer. I'll probably keep 150cc in my shaft, it been that way for so long now it may miss it if I change!

@@CYC123 you can normally spot a long wheel base version they came out in 1973 , you will see a 50mm [2 inch] extension on your swingarm you can see the welds

When BMW came out with the /5 series in 1970, the bike had some stability problems In the middle of 1973 production, BMW started using a longer swingarm to get more wheelbase and, therefore, more stability. It worked. The result of the longer swingarm is a BMW motorcycle that is far more stable. One could load it up with more junk and still not wobble. The price paid is much slower handling. The SWB is better for solo sports riding. The LWB is better for two-up touring with luggage. It is certainly possible for the LWB to wobble, but is less likely.
