I wish I learned this in my 20's and completely didn't believe in my value and was afraid of my ambition. Trying to harness this now in my 40's and so grateful for your message, voice, and sharing Marie!
Thank you for this episode! 💗 I’ve always felt like my perfectionism was something bad but in retrospect, it never actually kept me from achieving my goals. It only made me more focused! Although I have noticed a difference from striving in survival mode versus creating a fulfilling life from a place of love, I’m grateful for that period of my life. Everything works together in this perfect universe ✨
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us, Crystal. It adds so much to this conversation. We know that many people can relate to this. Thanks for watching. - Jayleen, Team Forleo
I have mainly Parisian Perfectionism, Intense, Procrastinator. I cry on my daily walks in nature sometimes. AND IT'S OKAY!
❤ I hate baths too! To me, some mundane chores and a good podcast are way more restful than lying in hot water. Working hard (with breaks) brings me joy and healing.
YES! This book is legitimately the best book on perfectionism I've read. I immediately felt understood and seen! I have the physical book and audio book because sometimes I just need to listen to her voice a few times per week. I am SO glad this interview is happening!
Hi Jenny! I happened to read your comment. I was so excited when I realized it was you! I loved this interview and I’m going to get the book. Perfectionists unite!❤
Wow wow wow. This conversation is everything. Absolutely going to come back to it over & over - thanks Marie & Katherine!
This hit me to my core! As first generation Latina and the oldest of 4 siblings with a single mom that worked a lot, I have always been a perfectionist and have always been ashamed of that for all the reasons you said. More recently I have worked on being more relaxed about things and always wondered why I still feel off somehow! I tried taking baths and I hate them too!! They don’t do anything for me.
Now I see why trying to change this part of me is not the right thing to do. Being a perfectionist is part of who I am. I need to embrace that and be proud of where my perfectionism has gotten me in my life! Thank you for this. 🙏
YES, Maria! Embrace your perfectionism. It's more than okay to be one and it doesn't have to be a bad thing 💗💗 - Monauar, Team Forleo
Brilliant. Someday it will be me sitting there with you! This interview was liberating! Thank you both!
I mention you in my book too Marie
I didn't see Katherine's link you said you put in the shownotes.
Hey Debbie, Thanks so much for watching. You can check out Katherine Morgan Schafler's website here --> www.perfectionistsguide.com/ Hope you enjoy! - Jayleen Team Forleo
I've never met anyone good at their trade who'd refer to themselves as perfectionist
That says a lot about the people you have met. Beyonce is an example of someone who is good at her job and has described herself as a perfectionist in the past
@@Frwill126 Oh yes, it does say a lot about surgeons, pilots, engineers and other people who actually need to avoid all mistake because those can result in death. Singing dumb r&b isn't complicated, it's not opera.
Agree!
Love this conversation! I have a mixture of procrastinating, messy, and parisian perfectionism! The middle usually gets harder if my parisian perfectionism kicks in, since connection is important to me. Connection with myself, especially, since it's easier to connect with others when connected with myself.
Part of my C-PTSD healing journey is writing, or self-expression if I wanted to blanket it. I went back to school for creative writing after self-publishing, because I could see I needed to learn more to enhance my work. After graduating, I decided to rebrand, despite how close I had come to finishing the first draft of my second book. I have 10 more chapters to edit in my rebranding stage. As a self-published author, I feel the pressure of the publisher to put out quality work, so when I see changes I need to make, I focus on that instead of the second book, which is almost done (before edits), as well. I'm creating the covers, doing the formatting, researching keywords, and marketing it all.
When I feel burned out, I switch to other goals, which inspires the messy side of me. The problem with that is I have multiple books in the works, including this first series, a dark psychological fantasy which will have eight books and maybe a prequel so I can do even box sets in the future. Book one has 111K words, book two has 83K words, book three has at least 40K words, and I have ideas for the rest of the books. I have a YA fantasy that will link to my fantasy world, an erotica romance based on sexual healing, memoirs about traumas and healing, and children's books in the works. Also, expanding to bookmarks and notebooks, so I stay busy. With dissociative issues, it's easy to get lost, so I keep plenty of reminders in my home to self-soothe and write so I can have a clearer mind.
This video was a great reminder to not give in to trauma responses and hold on to my sense of purpose for myself.
Marie…😆 at first glance I thought you were interviewing yourself. 🤦🏾♀️
"You'e a full-of-flaws human with significant limitations, and you're a perfect being with unlimited potential." = You are both, the wave and the ocean. :)
Great conversation - I'm working through all of this these days and this has given me a lot to think about (and be gentler with myself about) :) Also THE SMURF GLASS!! I still have and LOVE mine! Such flair ;)
We're SO happy you're here. Thank you for watching and yes to being gentler with yourself, Smurf glasses, and keeping things we love near and dear. 💙Sending so much love your way! xoxo
Wow I'm only halfway through and I'm already just in awe and soaking up so much!!
💗💗 We're so glad you're enjoying it Abby! Feel free to come back to this episode whenever you need to soak up Katherine's words of wisdom. - Monauar, Team Forleo

Signs, signs, signs.

For me I get frustrated when I'm forced to rest because my body needs it I'm learning to give into resting even if I feel like it slows me down or that I'm doing it in a way that seems counterintuitive to my goals
Embrace Your Perfectionism: How Your High Standards Shine Bright! In this empowering video, discover why your pursuit of excellence and high standards are qualities that set you apart and lead to extraordinary achievements. Embrace your perfectionism as a driving force for success and innovation. Don't miss this perspective-shifting insight - it's time to let your star qualities shine!
I just got told in an interview process that I was "too confident", even after getting positive feedback that I clearly have great experience and know what I am doing. It was like they were saying I needed to tone it down or be more unsure of myself, or nicer. A lot of my professional life I noticed how much more positively people reacted to me when I expressed doubt and deference to what others know, without crediting myself. I decided to unlearn that and I consider that the comment "too confident" means I really did well, and a guy would never be told that! But having done well for myself, I feel like I won. At the same time, I feel that in the corporate world we are so pushed to be more like men in a bad way (arrogant, almost) and what our world needs more is leaders with feminine qualities and energy.
if someone can romanticize messy perfectionnisme ; that is philosophy thinking 🤩🌺🌸🌺🌸🌺
The help take away is phenomenal ❤
We're so happy to hear that! Thank you so much for being here and for watching. 💘- Abby, Team Forleo
I think I'm a mix of procrastinator-perfectionist and messy 😬
I think to be perfectionnist before taking action and that let me procrastinating 🤗
I am such a procrastinator and perfectionist and I have carried a lot of guilt and shame about it. Mainly, always have had others just try to get me lower my standards or tell me to relax. Until today I finally feel at peace with myself and know this is an asset and not a problem. This really does need to be talked about more. Thank you so much for this podcast!💖🙏🏻💖
I’m so grateful this resonated with you! 🙏💖
Neutrality is about discernment. The ability to hold multiple positions within yourself without judgment. You're able to be in it but not lose yourself to it. I imagine neutrality as being in the calm center of a hurricane. You're the observer that is able to see beyond the superficial layers. Instead of being reactionary in a state of nervous system dysregulation. In the same way you're able to change the way you internalize perfectionism, you can also come to a new understanding and internalization about neutrality. Neutrality isn't void of emotions, feelings, or a full rich experience. More, it's the ability to be in the moment seeing with the vision of a higher awareness and broad perspective. Another way I think of it is silence. My most powerful place is a state of silence. Connecting with the sacred silent space within me. The still small voice. The still small voice within you is neutrality. The still small voice is acceptance, allowance, and freedom.
Beautifully said, and such a great insight. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. - Jayleen, Team Forleo
whoaaa I am a classic perfectionist! so weird to find this out at 41 LOL
Better late than never. 😉Grace-Team Forleo
Short list of good zombie movies? That sounds like a good idea
Thank you for this video, I knew it!
I knew that perfectionism was overgeneralized, and it makes so much sense that there are multiple types, and that we are all of the types (or most of them)
Thanks so much for watching, Andrew. We're so glad this resonates with you. 🌟 - Jayleen, Team Forleo
OMG love this , it is serendipitous and I felt a sense of relief and recognition. To take this to the next level in my serving my customers now is so wonderful ! I am so buying this book. Thank you !
