  • For the past 2 years, we have travelled this amazing country with our two Australian Kelpies, Kosta (Black/Tan) and Curi (Red).
    Naturally we get asked a lot of questions about travelling with dogs, so we thought we would sit down and answer all those burning questions!
    We know travelling with dogs can restrict your travels and it won't suit everyone, but for those that are considering it we hope this helps!
    The companionship, fun, loyalty and security that these two bring to our travels far outweigh any of the difficulties.
    Obviously some people we do things very differently to us or not agree with certain aspects, but this is what works for us and we hope it may help others.
    Safe Travels

    As a kelpie owner, old mate boofa here has done 40 odd thousand kms with me around aus on two trips ( west coast and east coast ), let alone the multiple camping trips we do locally. Kelpies tend to be more quick to " adjust " to new things, but also quick to get into a routine they have learnt. Hes an old man now at 13, has slowed down a lot, and loves his naps in the van on the bed when camping.

      I think your probably right, kelpies do adjust quickly and thrive on routine. I bet he does love those naps!

    Great advise...didn't think to leave my dog in the car while I go to the toilet/showers...I was thinking maybe have him outside the shower blocks but thought how unsafe that could be with other dogs around as well.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure

      Yeh we could maybe leave our girl outside a shower block but not our boy.
      Back of the car and left open has always been a good option for us

    About to travel with my dog, thanks for some great tips 🙂. I live in Darwin and we definitely aren't the most dog friendly but almost all our beaches you can have dogs off lead, at all times of the day.

    Great vid guys! We are about to start our never ending trip with our 2 dogs (Great Dane, Dogue de Bordeaux). We have one reactive dog, and since making the decision to do this and make it work, your videos have been so helpful in giving us ideas for training and management to ensure it will hopefully be a lifestyle choice we will all enjoy. Quick question -what type of muzzles do you use for 1080, I’m investigating this at the moment and it’s a minefield. It seems there is no correct or incorrect answer.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому +1

      So glad we can help in some way, i think with time and patience everyone will find a way to enjoy it.
      Im not sure of the brand of muzzle, as long as they can’t lick through it and it fits well and is comfortable then i think its ok.
      Ours don’t spend a lot of time in them, its only for the roadside walks when we know baits are laid in that area

    I would not go anywhere without my 2 but it does make it hard in some places to have a pet. Mine is spoilt and has to have fresh food daily as he loves his veggies and his chicken or meat lol. Fruit for snacks. Susan river is not bad as Hervey Bay is my home town. Just my pet hate is when peoples dogs run up as mine has been attacked 3 times and mine is always on a lead. Mine will not attack back so lucky in that way. How do you go in the heat with the dogs and when you are limited with power? Thanks for this video.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому +1

      Can be so hard when dogs come running up off lead.
      I walked past a car the other day with both of mine and a dog jumped out of the window, luckily no aggression but hate being in that situation.
      We can sometimes struggle in the heat, we don’t go leaving them in the van when its that hot they tend to like laying under the van on those days.
      We have fans that clip on so have actually given them their own fan for a really hot overnight sleep but ours have also spent most of their life in North West WA so they are probably more accustomed to the heat then some others would be.
      But rule of thumb, if we are uncomfortably hot they probably are too, so might go find a van park for some aircon

    • @mareelewis7639
      @mareelewis7639 Рік тому +1

      @@Ourwhittleadventure It is hard as i have 2 dogs that cannot candle the heat so its hard to know what to do as i am getting ready to travel and watching a lot of your videos well i have been following and watching all your videos. I am just worried about the dogs if that makes sense with the heat.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому +1

      Yeh that does make sense and you know your dogs best.
      Maybe a small generator so that you can run your aircon when off grid?

    • @mareelewis7639
      @mareelewis7639 Рік тому +1

      @@Ourwhittleadventure I brought a generator but just earning everything is so hard if that makes sense as i travelled years ago but now caravan parks are so expensive and some will not except 2 dogs worst luck and its ashame as they should go on how well behaved your pet is. We really enjoyed this video thank you as some things are so hard to know. You 2 are really awesome as you both put in everything.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  Рік тому +1

      We have only encountered onenpark that didn’t allow two dogs and that was just during peak season itherwise we have been fortunate, but yes van parks are getting really expensive, hence why we don’t stay at many.
      Showgrounds and rest areas suit us much better
