This piece is from 1973.I love Feldman's music but loud high pitched sounds are painful for me. So many composers of the times seemed to love them and use them a lot. I can't imagine why. I managed to listen to this piece to the end, but doubt I ever will listen to it again.
+atwaterpub---- That would do it, but luckily I don't have to go all the way to the bottom registers. All I have to do is not listen to pieces with extreme flutes, and sometimes almost as extreme violins.

+gnikcohs concentrate on listening to works written for Tuba or Sousaphone. That might help?

maybe you're just listenning too loud...I don't hear any "extreme" volumes here...
Use an equalizer and lower the high frequencies all the way down
