Another great episode. I think the most disappointing impact on whiskey has been price. I understand all us enthusiasts have done it to ourselves with FOMO secondary markets. Hoping there is a little price correction in 2024. Cheers!
It is enjoyable that this channel is delivered in a non super hype manner. You both state what you like, what you like less and provide points for people to weigh against their own preferences.
It is funny you say that. Aaron and I have been friends for years, along with our wives. We all went to a winery and Aaron was trying to convince me to start doing reviews. I told him I didn't like reviews because taste was so subjective, and he encouraged me that we could do them in a way that was honest and gave people enough information to make their own decision, and here we are!
I've been loving the new content in these best/most disappointing lists. I did watch the C of K 16 video but it was on my Apple TV so was unable to comment. That is crazy the flugtuation of market price between states! I am in MA, and I got it at a store that does a first come first served allocated whiskey day. All the buffalo trace stuff was gone when i got there. But I grabbed the last C of K and this store charges a little more than MSRP...I paid $260. I am the same...I think the juice is very good...a little steep even at $260 IMO - I would like to blind it with the Remus 15 year since its close in price in my area. Ive been watching your channel for years and several years ago I recall watching all the older videos as well - to catchup. Great content all around. Very unique. I appreciate the community feel you bring to bourbon and whiskey!
Thank you for the content! Always love the videos. Thank you for the opportunity to win the amazing samples. Definitely surprised to see you put the GTS in there. Hope to be able to make it to Ohio to hang out with everyone.
Always interesting to see "unicorn" and super allocated stuff make lists like this. Like you said, not because they're bad per se but because of either price or comparison to previous releases.
With all of the FOMO inducers on the market, sometimes, the regular shelf bottles will be the best surprise that you might reach for. Case in point, I've been hoping to find an illusive ECBP C923 which was nowhere to be found. OGD 114 sat quietly on the shelf at a $25 price point until I picked it up, took it home, and gave myself a pour. I've tried the OGD bonded before but, the high rye mash build had a prominent presence on the flavor notes. The 114 has a more balanced and richer flavor by far! Sometimes, small gambles do pay off! Great show as always! Cheers!
Quality and flavor were lacking on a few of my higher end purchases. Are they trying to drive us away from try new releases? Thank you for your candor and understanding that all of us have different tastes and preferences. Keep up the good work.
IMO some of the time they are trying to take profits, some of the time they are trying to keep the demand from LE releases from affecting the availability of the shelf available lines, and in the case of BT they are trying to take advantage of demand without affecting future demand since they recently double capacity. Whiskey is a complicated business.
Great content! You should do a video like this every few months and then also a separate one that are bottles that surprised you that you really enjoy!
Another great discussion. Always appreciate the level dialogue and not letting the hype drive the feedback. Agree with some of the other comments about price and just secondary gouging too. Cheers guys.
New viewer here. I recently was given a separation agreement from my job overseeing a warehouse and logistics operation that ran 24/7. This has given me the opportunity to have the time to find what I actually love, which is good bourbon and intelligent people discussing bourbon. I love the information and the chance for the giveaway!
Love your content. Mostly agree with your opinions, but not always. Thats actually makes it fun. Also liked this as you dont rubber stamp all the unicorn bottles.
That is why I don't get too upset. People are still excited to try them, and whiskey was meant to be shared. The most disappointing bottle I have ever owned was Pappy Van Winkle 20. I wouldn't even taste that bottle with people when I was sharing it 🤣
Love the channel, appreciate all the unique topics and industry specific shows on how the nuts and bolts on the regulation and distribution of juice in the U.S. kewpie it up
Quality to cost ratio is huge in the current environment. Thanks for taking the time to give us this info. Definitely helpful when trying to work within a budget. 🤝
Great information. At some point maybe I’ll try one or a few of them to have my input on them. Thanks for the opportunity to possibly win some great pours!!!
Differentiating palates are a great thing, but when a several agree on one taste you gotta think something isn't great. I was in the same boat on that Little Book. Maybe at 50-60 bucks, it would be a solid buy.
@@BourbonRealTalk can't wait to see what you guys have planned. I'm really new to the bourbon game and any help and suggestions you can give are a blessing for sure!
Thanks for another Real Talk episode. As always the content speaks to what I believe is the average whiskey consumer. I agree with others that price per pound seems to be the recent theme of disappointments, and IMO the overall theme of 2023.
Another great video. I agree with the comment below, biggest disappointment in bourbon has been the pricing! Hopefully we start seeing prices come down but not holding my breath. There will always be stores that price gouge and they do it because people pay are willing to pay those prices. As far as disappointing juice, i was really disappointed with Blood Oath#9. Fantastic on the front and mid palate but completely fell off the cliff once it hit the back palate and no finish at all. At $130ish msrp would expect a little more. With all that said..not stopping me from drinking it! lol.
i can confirm its not '1792' as well, its most likely they let you choose distillate barrels that were of a mash bill that makes many of their products.
I agree JD Twice Barreled rye was disappointing for me, then again I know some friends that love it! Agree as well that WT MK was very underwhelming. Thanks for the video and another generous giveaway!
Still can’t believe the George T Stag was a disappointing Bourbon for you this year. Hopefully this years will be better. Thank you for all that you do and Cheers!
Woo-hoo! What a great group for the giveaway! Laughed at the on purpose pause with the "didn't like the young Cream of Kentucky (COK). Thanks Randy and BRT
All the Kivals I have had has had a strong sharpie note which might be the sour spearmint note. Will go back and see if it makes sense. I have finished some bourbons in birch but it was much nicer than the Koval sharpie note that I got. I have samples if you are interested.
I love WT, but glad I didn’t get the Voyage at msrp when I had the chance. I try to avoid high price bottles now if I haven’t had the chance to try them at a bar or with a friend (learned from my mistakes).

So far I hear prices are coming down, so let's hope it continues.
The market will crash in 2024. People have filled their shelves and interest rates are too high.

Thank you! Whiskey is about sharing.
Love you reviews….. Wes glad you will still be around behind the scenes 💜
Amen to that!

Thank you, although I love a lot of the other whiskeytubers!

Finding available hitters is fun! OGD114 and Benchmark FP are some of my favorite high proofs.
I've had a couple of the Benchmark Full Proofs. I affectionately refer to them as Buffalo Trace on steroids! Great bang for the buck!

There’s so many wonderful whiskies at a decent price out there, I can’t see spending hundreds on a mediocre bottle. Thanks for what y’all do!

Prices will have to get back in alignment with consumer expectations at some point.
Another great video. Like how you and Aaron had different takes on some of the bottles. You can share a bottle but you can't share taste buds.
Very true!
Great content. I typically listen to the podcast at work, then usually watch it again at home. Keep up the great work!
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for the support.
Always look forward to another, informative episode
Thanks
I appreciate the honest opinions. The secondary market prices can be crazy and you help us taters navigate the bottles worth avoiding. Well done.

Great perspectives on these! Also, nice swerve on the sample pack! Cheers 😀

Great video! Sad to see some of these on the list. I never had a chance try any of them , though.
It is ok. There is plenty of great whiskey on the shelf a good prices.

Interesting list. I liked some you listed and agreed with your thoughts on others. Just shows that everyone’s palate is different!

Very nice, I thought you were going to send samples of the ones you were disappointed in (thought that wouldn't be bad either lol)
I thought about it, but some of the bottles we no longer had access to.
You guys are super generous. Hoping for your sampler pack!!

The prices are driving me crazy too. More museums than stores these days.
I hate museum stores

Another good video! High price isn't always proportional to high quality whiskey.
There is almost zero correlation between price and quality of flavor in bourbon.
As always another great episode Randy. I agreed with basically this entire list. Some of the juice just isn't worth the squeeze!
🤣 Cheers!
Probably for me is the willet green top rye. It was too piney notes for me. Just gotta get use to it.
I like the piney note, but I understand why some would not.
