If anyone says my thumbnail is unoriginal I WILL hunt them down and I WILL kiss them on the mouth. If you know of any unknown indie games that you wish more people knew about, let me know in this comment chain. I'd love to check them out. And if you're worried about my video format changing, I'll be hopping back and forth between this series and video essays, so long as I can keep thinking of ideas. Thanks for watching.
If you want recommendations then I have a few. Sheltered, a post-apocalyptic, resource management, base builder. I recently found it while browsing the shop and I like it quite a lot, have put some hours into it and so far very enjoyable. Goetia, a story based puzzle game with a LOT of reading. I found it charming if a bit difficult at later points and got very invested in the story. If you decide to give it a shot I wouldn’t fault you for looking up a guide for a few specific mid to late game puzzles though. And one a bit more popular Death’s Door, an isometric souls-like. One of the few games I hundred percented, definitely recommend even if not for a video.
Night-Runners Prologue is a good indie game I more people should know about, because it is very different from other indie racing games and different from other racing games in general
Hello!! This is Horpan, the developer of Ninnin. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughtful game review. Thanks to your email report of the game's bugs, we were able to address the shortcomings of Ninnin, and now it has become an even better game. I look forward to more fun game reviews from you, and I will continue to support your UA-cam channel~!!!😀😀
Normally I don't recommend other UA-camrs in the comments but since you like underrated youtubers making videos about underrated indie games, I just had to. I can recommend Graeldon, he has a series that he plays steam games in alphabetical order. Yes, every game (unless it came out at a later date. He recently played the 100 hidden object games) He reviews them and might recommend them. There are some real gems that he has already found in a pile of garbage. So you get some really underrated gems or some real trash but both can be fun.
@@feedjompowell you only ticked two of those boxes for me if it makes you feel any better, and I will say this was a decently long video. /j First video of yours recommended to me so congrats on being selected by the algorithm. A nice look at some games I've never heard of before. Hope you continue pursuing your passions uninhibited.
The Red Alliance AI issue reminded me of a fun fact about Bioshock: the first shot an enemy fired toward you was designed to miss. This was to keep the AI fair and allow you time to assess the situation and find the opponent, as opposed to just getting shot without knowing what was happening.
some additional games I've played that I recommend: 1. Lunacid, 14$, I played lunacid and I LOVE it, its got that kingsfield style to it, the weapons are cool and fun and it lets me use a weapons in left or right hand, there's so much to do that's fun and you can get all 3 endings on one save. I 100%d it in 29 hours and still consider going back and just replaying it to replay it (something I rarely do), its a 14$ I dont regret. 2. Pseudoregalia, 6$, its a very fun metroidvania style platformer, the combat is lackluster and simple but not the focus at all and pretty negligible, where it shines is its movement and platforming, which is really good and makes exploration fun. They also support mods pretty well, most of the mods are outfit stuff but there's some level mods too. I feel its definitely worth the price, and id be willing to pay even 10$ for it. 3. En Garde!, 20$ (on sale for 10 at time of writing), a nice little game with good combat, the combat is rapier focused where you wanna try and separate the enemies from groups as if you fight in a group you'll have a big disadvantage, its heavily influenced by sat am cartoons and has some humor to it, you can toss pots on enemies heads to stun them for a bit for example. Its a easy to learn game that feels hard to master. It also has accessability features that can make the game REALLY easy for those who just wanna relax and play it. The 20$ feels like a fair price for it. 4. its not out yet, and I dont know how well known it is but V.A Proxy is a very Promising looking game, I played the demo and had a lot of fun when I got used to the game, the dev has shown that you can parry a nuke in it, need I say more? theres no listed price yet. Now, a game I haven't played yet but am interested in and plan on playing is Dread Delusion, 20$, it looks a lot like Morrowind in both style and gameplay, and from the reviews it seems thats a good comparison. Note that its currently in an open beta. Ill also vouch for mortal sin, ive played it and it feels really nice, I orginally thought it would feel too fast paced but its really not, i got combat like that pretty easily without trying hard. These games are all available on steam.
Honestly the point of videos like this is to create awareness for small indie games. All the games you listed are high-profile, in one way or another. VA Proxy had multiple clips go viral on Twitter so tons of people know about it. Pseudoregalia is far from a hidden gem, it has had lots of exposure in UA-cam and steam. Lunacid and En Garde were both covered by one of the biggest dark souls UA-camrs, Iron Pineapple. This isn't to be malicious it's just a fact that they don't line up with the obscurity of the games covered.
@@mattb8075 I admit they definitely aren't as obscure of games as some of these are but I wouldn't call them high profile either, I hadn't seen any of em on UA-cam at all myself and yeah, I wasn't sure how viral VA Proxy was bc I only knew of it bc of one clip I saw on twitter once, so I wasn't sure if it was widely known or not but it felt worth mentioning.
@@ladyjuno2456 I didn't say that to invalidate your list or anything, just that they aren't as obscure as you might think. Which is contrary to the examples in the video. I haven't heard of any of them except Power of Ten and The mushroom game.
6:14 Bro, I so feel you on this. First time I remember it hitting me hard was one Xmas when I was a kid and we were really REALLY poor, like rationing food poor. My mom baught me a Spider-Man game for a system I didn't have but I didn't know, I thought she got me a new system! I was so excited but when I couldn't find it in the presents and asked her about it, the look on her face of, "oh no! I messed up!" KILLED me. I wanted her to succeed so bad, I started trying to lie about it but it was too late. Fortunately, she was able to fix it and all was good, but I'll never forget that crushing feeling of wanting to see her succeed at what she was trying to do. And now, anytime I see someone struggle and try but it falls apart, especially fot reasons out of their control, it eats my feels alive. Empathy is painful sometimes.
I love how when this was in production, you where relatively unknown. Then, two days later, BOOM! Over 1.5k subscribers. Honestly, for the production quality, it's very well deserved. Looking forward for more from you!
I have a suggestion: "In other waters" its a neat, calm, top-down, story driven exploration game where youre a diver with amneasia or something and youre on an alien planet and with the help of the technology at hand you need to discover what happend, u can collect flora samples, interact with the surroundings and crafting is also an option i think, i didnt play it for long maybe 4 hours but i did enjoy it and would like to give it another try (i didnt progress much in those 4 hours)
"just a youtuber with a thousand subs" Huh, would have thought a lot more for sure with how professionally done this is, though it seems the algorithm has blessed your efforts. Great format, I've also been trying out the lesser known games in my backlog (mortal sin is in there) :)
There’s so many things wrong with the Walmart I work at but they never get fixed because we’re too busy doing the daily tasks that keep the store running there’s never any time to fix what’s broken. And of course management refuses to hire more people or fix the issues themselves, they’re too busy aimlessly wandering the store for 8 hours.
I've only heard of Smushi from all the "cozy games" youtubers and Mortal Sin from a random steam sale. The rest I haven't heard of. Might have to pick up Stardrop.
I really like these types of videos. These are some really amazing finds, that might have never gotten the light they needed if people like you hadn't taken the time to show them off. As an aspiring indie dev, I really appreciate people who take the time to find and engage with small, overlooked content and then show off the things that are fun about it, while also talking about what could be better. I hope you do more of these! (andmaybeplaysomeofmygamessomedayhahajkunless)
I definitely plan on making more, and I'm not against you plugging your own games. No promises on playing them though, gotta set some boundaries you know how it is.
@@feedjompo I totally understand, and I don't think that my games are at the point that I'm truly happy with them yet. I've done mostly game jams, but I have some bigger games in progress that aren't done, but that I will want to show off some day. I just hope that you or someone like you stumble across them if they don't naturally take off. 🙂
40:31 I stroke her hair, working my way up to her adorable jester cap. My nails glide along her hat, tracing the stitching to the pom-poms that lie just within my reach. I give them a jostle - a gesture that surely foreshadows what's to come. "Oh, Jompo... Or should I say Jompni?" She giggles, her left eye twitching ever so slightly. Was it simply anxiety? Stress from living in this digital nightmare? Or perhaps, and I dare to dream that it may be true, she was flustered by my dashing appearance. I take a Jompknee, not only to show my absolute devotion to her, but to emphasize the wit she carried within her. Soon, my child will lay alongside that wit. "Pomni, we may be trapped in this so-called 'Amazing Digital Circus' with nary a light to guide us, and that brings great fear to us and our associates. However, there was something I found here that genuinely was amazing." I stare deep into her eyes, maybe even beyond them - to her soul. "And what was it that you found, Jompni?" She knows the answer, but she dares me to take the next step. To take the lead. And to deliver this message, I allow what is natural to roll off my tongue. The most terrifying words I have ever said, but somehow the easiest to speak. "You, Pomni. I found you." For a moment, panic appears to creep into her expression. Her eye twitches more than before. She smiles, but it seems forced. She grabs the sides of her head in apparent anguish. Was it too soon? Had I misread her? My heart was laid bare. It was too late to pull away, so I will push forward instead. A kiss. A censor bar appears, blocking the view, but there is no need for either of us to look. We could simply feel. Our lips lock together. Her warmth reaches out to me. She blushes beneath her makeup. Her shaking stops. She melts away in my arms. Literally. I forgot this world was a cartoon. A temporary escape. An exit that we were sure wasn't simply delusion. We both felt it. Pomni begins to solidify, returning to her jester form. She gasps for air, heaving in excitement and fear. "That was no digital hallucination. I thought we were stuck in H%$#, but I just felt like I was in heaven." Pomni looks at me, calmer than she has ever looked before. For the first time, she is at ease. And the fact that it was I, Jompo, that brought this to her... I don't know if her jester outfit is removable. But now is the time to check. In walks Long Johnson. "Hey, I'm Long Johnson," says Long Johnson. Track 16 of the pilot's soundrack, *Your New Home* begins to play. "Honestly," says Long Johnson, "I'm more of a Helluva Boss kind of guy."
This is a great video with great insight, great humor, great themes, great writing, and great editing. The atmosphere makes for a wonderful break from the exhausting reality we live in. I subscribed and I hope you make more. I think you have a promising future as an essayist. Your approach is uniquely human, and I hope you never lose that.
Thanks a bunch for playing Smushi! Your review on it was really fun to watch, especially the beginning. Had me cracking up 🤣 Glad to hear you enjoyed the game though!
this video is my favorite genre of youtube video, idk how to describe it but its something along the lines of "small channel makes a bomb ass video essay type video that's well spoken and has a good vibe"
Found you on my feed and decided to watch. It was really entertaining! Both the way you expressed your interest in the games and went "in depth" persé, and the tidbits of sarcasm and humour were a nice touch. I would love to see more from you!
Dude this was such a high quality vid! Also if you're planning on making a part two, then I would recommend including Asgard's Fall, DUD or Die in the Dungeon (all these are on itch btw) gl with your channel :)
Always love analysis of and spreading the word about various indie games. It's how I've found some undercover hits like Sheepy: A Short Adventure, Lil Gator Game and Assemble With Care. Games I will not stop preaching about and they are all Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam despite being mostly unheard of.
Instant sub. A high quality, high effort video with relevant and original content, with it's own quirkiness without bleeding too much on the script. This is simply a hidden gem. If you plan on continuing posting videos, I'll be here for it
My favorite phone games are puzzle games like timelie and lara croft go, but those work around the touch controls more than utilizing them in any interesting way. Closest thing I can think of is the tactile experience of The Room series. But even the DS gave up and used the second screen as an over-glorified menu for most games
33:00 The "sound gun" would work better as some sort of attachment that you activate once and it changes the look of your gun, while preventing you from firing it. The only way to fire your gun would be to deactivate it. I'm imagining a disc on top that floats and maybe mildly obscures vision around it with visual waves so you can tell it's functioning and that your gun won't work. Separating the two concepts so clearly could help players keep them separate in their minds and create that trade-off you mentioned. Plus, a gun you fire to hear sound is the most absurd thing I've ever heard of, but I guess the whole game already kind of does that and it's definitely absurd.
That your channel has grown by almost 8k subscribers in a month should be a testament to the joy your presentation brought by watching it. I hope you remain consistent, as I can see your ability to compose and create an enjoyable presentation taking you much MUCH further in the future.
Also, although I put my foot down and said "No more subscribing to new channels till I reign in my previous subscriptions", I've subscribed to your channel. :D
Only 2.05 K subs. Huh... this has some legitimately great production quality behind it and I truly hope the trend of my subbing to a channel early in their career just for them to take off happens with you.
What an awesome video. Honestly thank you, as an indie dev myself it’s bittersweet seeing my game out without many gameplays. I tried advertising on Reddit and basically got scolded by some dude saying I couldn’t promote my stuff on a sub that allowed me to. Still, I imagine there’s a lot of devs out there that pour their heart into creating their games and eventually to have someone like you that genuinely appreciates and sees the effort and love put into these games. I’m a busy construction worker so I’ve slowed down on my own dev projects and devlogs but I’ve always loved the process of making games and it genuinely makes me happy seeing someone share that love with others on UA-cam. Wishing you the best with your channel, definitely got a new subscriber here man!
I always feel so bad for people who put effort into a project and dont even get acknowedged for it. I don't have to find the very good, but I can admire people putting their heart into something they enjoy! Thanks for being so kind and highlighting this one little indiegame that otherwise would have been forgotten. 💜
Heard of Rumble? a vr game where you can earth-bend! learning how to play the game and how to do the moves is like learning a martial art but there is a really fun community and gameplay that imo has not gotten the recognition it deserves. Another case of this is Noita ! A really fun roguelike!
The algorithm figured I like RedLetterMedia, which is sarcastic and witty but long and carefully thought out takes, and my enjoyment of video games and led me to you. Like Mrixrt exploring games where you break the game itself, or Bubble Tea going on for hours about Persona games, you make stuff I like. Please, continue.
For Stardrop...That is one of the reasons why i love most indie games, someone got an idea and wasn't afraid of showing it, even when they don't have the money. This is what other devs need to do to make good games, non of that copy paste stuff or fantastic graphics but crap story kind of things. A game that tells a story, if not a story then a game that isn't frustrating (unless it's something like darksouls then forget that part). Games made with passion shine brighter than games made for a quick buck
Not sure how serious that "women in sports" "joke" was- kind of sends a mixed message overall. Even if you didn't mean it, people might see their views confirmed in it- even though strength can always be impressive & strategy doesn't depend on one's body either. Not to mention that varying body types & other factors blend lines & that there are systemic issues at play as well. So if you didn't mean it, I hope you make that more clear & consider what your content might do more & I'm just leaving this here for people who might actually think that way.
Loved your preamble to covering Ninnin. Perfect way to express that hey, even if you made a _bad_ game, you still did more than most by just _making the game at all._ You can't learn without failure so never let a rocky start deter you
I genuinely thought this came from a huge creator from how well put together the video is. I also seriously appreciate how much effort you put into emphasizing the creative side of making games and what these indie devs are doing by putting themselves out there. Keep it up!
I just have one suggestion. That comment on watching women's sports was either poorly framed as tongue-in-cheek hyperbole, or was legitimately thoughtless. I'm going to assume the former, judging by the rest of the video. But beware the perniciousness of cancel culture if you don't want an army of keyboard warriors in your comments… Otherwise, a great video!
May I reccomend a game? Because A House of many Doors is VERY underrated. I have only ever met a single other person who knew it, and that was only because they knew the creator personally. If you know and like Fallen London, same universe as Sunless Sea/Sunless Skies, it was made by one of their writers! It is an extremely unique world unlike any other, that is very different from place to place and still has a cohesion between all of them that makes it work. My highest reccomendation, my favourite game of all time.
Also, arguably, the bad end (that btw deletes the main menu and makes you unable to play the game again) is probably also the best possible end. It makes sense in the game
You talk about being at under 1K subscribers during the making of this video. 2 months later, I find you at 10K subscribers! I hope you are as proud of yourself as this stranger is :)
you nailed the racism joke, thats a hard thing to right and not weird not quite on the womens sports joke tho, kinda cringe, the haha gay almost saved it, different wording coulda worked
finally, someone on this platform is talking about one of the underrated goats that is Mortal Sin. Just found your channel through this video and honestly impressed by how high quality the video is. Keep it up!
I recommend you check out Disillusion (and Disillusion ST). The whole game feels bizarre and ethereal with its characters and environments. One of the most interesting games I've played
I've heard of it, but I think it has more recognition than what I am aiming for with these. But it does look cool, so I'll probably play it at the least. Maybe stream it, maybe.
37:45 a mobile game that I found quite intricate and fun was apple knight! It's a 2d platformer where you collect apples and kill monsters. It's usually pretty easy, but the movement is nice and really satisfying to use in the boss fights.
It feels weird regularly finding great content creators that are rather underrated so regularly. On one hand I feel encouraged to comment on the video since I feel that I'm not repeating the words of someone else before me, but on the other hand, it kinda hurts to see how small the creator is and just think that they deserve to have more of an audience. Since their numbers say to me that this is entirely fueled by passion, and that the money they might be making is likely not enough. Still considering the fact me and some friends are trying to make a game out of passion I'll share this with them since it contains some great advice and insights for aspiring indie devs like us.
I love videos like this - both for the actual content (it's engaging, entertaining, and spotlights indie developers that I've never heard of), and also because it's great to hear what your own journey is like. Good luck producing further content going forwards - if it's even half as good as this video is, I'll be there to watch it.
Great video! Indie-games are the backbone of the gaming-industry. A lot of people are looking for the next break-through titles among indie-games, the next Minecraft, the next Undertales, but it's the smaller games that should be played more. They are the equivalent of street-food when traveling, you probably won't remember them afterwards but they usually have a bit spices in them that you don't get at home and make it interesting ... and often cost less than the average micro-transaction for your average AAA title.
I came to this video because I saw Mortal Sin on the thumbnail and wanted to see your opinion on it. Stayed because I loved everything about the video from your humor and style to honest reviewing of boons and flaws while also acknowledging the creators and their efforts. Nothing about the video felt degrading about the games and was genuinely interesting and made me wanna try out some of these games. Very underrated
Oh really? thanks 🙏. But my game is still work in progress. We haven’t a Steam Page yet. The name is My Lord is Hiring. I’ll give you exclusive access to our game once we have a playable demo. 😊
wow what a hidden gem of a channel speaking about some truly hidden video game gems in a compelling manner! investing at 3.72k subs, looking forward to more videos, you've earned the attention. very well done
your editing is amazing, and the closing point of the video makes me want to ask. how much background do you have in video editing? im interested in making videos but ive always been so intimidated by the software and learning to use it. ive let it become the biggest barrier between me and making videos.
@heavydutycows What you see on this channel and the highlights you see on my streaming channel are pretty much all of my editing experience, with scattered joke videos I made for my friends that were pretty simple. Just so you're aware, my first video, the Kingdom Hearts one, took me about 6 months to put together, and that was mostly editing. But with each video, the things I did before become easier, and I learn more stuff, so the workflow improves. A good example would be masking. In my Kingdom Hearts video, there's a joke where I have Kuzco scribble out some text about Kairi, and to do that I needed to cut the background out around him. And that took me three days, probably like 10 hours of effort, because I didn't know how to mask things in Resolve. So I took every frame individually from the movie, edited each one in clip studio with some really crappy tools that I still didn't understand, and strung them all together. I could do that in like, less than 30 minutes now with keyframes in the Color tab since I understand my tools better. I use Da Vinci Resolve, which has a good free version, though I actually use the paid version. And I just google how to do effects on UA-cam if I ever need to know how to do something. There are also a lot of free effects and overlays and stuff online, along with tools and addons that will make your life easier. Resolve is surprisingly not that complex unless you try for things like motion tracking in the fusion tab, but you can usually get a similar good-enough result by doing something more manual in the editing tab. Like in this video, in the Sorry, We're Open section, I manually tracked the dice I rolled by literally poking the screen with one finger to know where to keep the die and I keyframed each frame with the other hand by just clicking and dragging each frame of the video. Took like 5 minutes for the whole thing. Basically, expect your first video to be a confusing mess that will take too long, but you'll end up being happy with it by the end. Either because you surprised yourself with what you could do, or you'll be happy to have learned and you'll know the next one will be better.
37:40 As someone with unironically 70+ mobile games on my phone, the only two very good ones I've found so far on there were Nameless Cat and Alto's adventure The first one is a 2D platformer that use very effectively the simple controls to deliver a short yet very varied and engaging experience without ever getting in your face for monetisation The second follow more the mobile game formula, and do it likely better then the first as a "play it simply anywhere at anytime as much as you want" It only use one finger to play while still be pretty engaging for a huge while (where nameless car probably have like 2h of content + a few hours for collectibles and then it is it) btw great video
The problem with Red Alliance's AI would be pretty easy to solve by just adding a slight random value to enemy bullets's initial speed (very slight if they're using a rifle, noticeable if they're using a full-auto weapon). If you're far away, some bullets will miss you because the random speed changes the angle so it's not pinpoint accurate. If you're close, you're more likely to get hit since the bullet has less time to get out of the way laterally. Now even if enemies know where you are, you're not GUARANTEED to take damage the instant you pop out of cover. (Okay, the clairvoyance probably needs a separate more complicated fix, but removing guaranteed hitscan damage will already help a ton with gamefeel)
will say, as someone who played no delivery, the "recuring encounters" just seems to be something thats common with their works, (or atleast these two.) not even exclusive to the dialogue encounters on where you work, had several runs on my security guard in the arcade who encountered 3 of the same machine that I could pass without an issue. anyways, uh, glad to see the 7th member of the "played no delivery" club.
@colorphone5154 It's honestly been a long time since playing No Delivery, so that could be slipping my mind easily. But yeah it's nice to see someone else who actually played it.
OH MY GOD FINALLY SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT MORTAL SIN!!! This game is so addicting, and I say this as someone that reaaaally doesn't like roguelikes, but this one just made me want to 100% the game. The aesthetic too is so awesome and it's what got me to buy the game
Re: 37:44, mobile games that use good touch controls: Every mobile card game (Legends of Runeterra and Ascension, to hit CCG and deckbuilding game) Monument Valley 1 & 2 (touch controls in place of point and click puzzle adventure controls) Bounden (two players hold a phone between them and have to tilt and move it to progress a level, which tends to make you dance together - this is EASILY the most creative use of the mobile format and controls I've seen!) Space Team (It even uses motion control too!)
The content strugle I related too. I am worrying to much and I haven't even started my project. But for what its worth I really liked this video, and you have one more who turned from potential to actual audience. Art needs soul and I think, youre passion does shine through in a way.
This might feel out of left field, or out of place, but you voice has a cadence like another youtuber I watch. The odd thing is, that other youtuber is a robot who talks about books, the written word, and how they've changed over the years. I don't remember the name, and don't want to stir a pot that doesn't seem to be boiling, so for now, just know that I got the same vibes from the way you speak, and the way he does. That out of the way, love the message laced into the spotlight video. Awesome stuff.
This is very well read overall, your delivery is good, the script is coherent, the pacing is great, and the video is of good length to get your points across on each experience. Also i like the spicier jokes. It's rare that the algorithm hits home this well. You definitely deserve this. I can definitely get the Iron Pineapple reference in all of this, but something tells me you're not a stranger to EFAP. I dunno, there's just something there.
I think Mindustry would be interesting. It is on mobile, and pc. I found it on mobile, and found it to be one of the best mobile games I have encountered. No ads or extra money required, free on Samsung, though 10 dollars on pc.
On Smushi. I viewed it as you look into the worldview of a kid. A kid that get kinda scared about all the strong reactions from the adults around him and view all strong recations similar.
Sorry, We're Open is interesting. Gives off Mother vibes, but seems more condensed and approachable (easier to get into without feeling like you're committing to something).
Seriously dude you just earned a sub! This video was great and I found it so entertaining, lately I’ve been so bored with UA-cam and the content creators I usually watch but you have a good video concept and it was so well executed not to mention your personality also shined through, you’re funny and charismatic as you speak. An underrated UA-camr making a video about underrated games. I loved it!!
This is really well done. Your editing, voiceover, jokes, everything, all are on point. The Brutal Egg opening really needed a LOUD NOISE WARNING, though, IMO...
If anyone says my thumbnail is unoriginal I WILL hunt them down and I WILL kiss them on the mouth.

Magicite, it was kind of popular on UA-cam for like 10 minutes. It's on Steam and I'd think you'd enjoy it.
ur thumbnail poopoo and unoriginal. wer kiss?

Long video? Quality coherent content? Snarky comments? Being edgy without being insufferable cringe? Well you ticked 3 of these. Subbed. Good shit.
I'll aim for ticking two next time, just for you buddy.
“Insufferable cringe” sounds like you’re insufferable
Most passive aggressive encouragement comment I have seen in a while
@@feedjompowell you only ticked two of those boxes for me if it makes you feel any better, and I will say this was a decently long video. /j
First video of yours recommended to me so congrats on being selected by the algorithm. A nice look at some games I've never heard of before. Hope you continue pursuing your passions uninhibited.
@@donovanfaust3227 would've been funnier if you said uninhabited, just to confuse people.
The Red Alliance AI issue reminded me of a fun fact about Bioshock: the first shot an enemy fired toward you was designed to miss. This was to keep the AI fair and allow you time to assess the situation and find the opponent, as opposed to just getting shot without knowing what was happening.
Thats really clever
17:51 "You may not be officially dead yet, but as of now you are dead to me."
This line hits hard enough to kill people.
some additional games I've played that I recommend:
Dread delusion looks great!
I know exactly how you feel bro
1:59 "gets depression or something, and time-warps back to the beginning"
That ain't depression, that's motivation
to want to not fuck things all over again. To be better, to become better.
Great addition.
The idea of hiding devlogs in my projects honestly never occured to me. That is a very clever idea.
The swap from Smushi being a cute game and all that flipping over to the heavy gunfire of Red Alliance gave me whiplash and made me laugh heartily.
With the papers please theme in the background? Nahhhhh bro needs a silver play button stat
I'm convinced you are Matpat in disguise
I really get "Tale Foundry" vibes
Definitely sounds like him
Keep that teary-eyed little goof away from games and pizza
I was just thinking that he sounded similar. Like some mannerisms and stuff.
Beat me to it
"just a youtuber with a thousand subs"
Huh, would have thought a lot more for sure with how professionally done this is, though it seems the algorithm has blessed your efforts. Great format, I've also been trying out the lesser known games in my backlog (mortal sin is in there) :)
6k now, so it's a sizeable jump!
Up to 10K!
"It's like everything is falling apart and no one cares" CORRECT! This is a truth of working at a supermarket.

There's a whole indie genre of "retail horror" and I'm over here like dude that's just a normal retail job 😂
There’s so many things wrong with the Walmart I work at but they never get fixed because we’re too busy doing the daily tasks that keep the store running there’s never any time to fix what’s broken. And of course management refuses to hire more people or fix the issues themselves, they’re too busy aimlessly wandering the store for 8 hours.
this is the first video like this where i've actually never heard of any of the games. Well done.

I stroke her hair, working my way up to her adorable jester cap.
I found you."
For a moment, panic appears to creep into her expression.
"Honestly," says Long Johnson, "I'm more of a Helluva Boss kind of guy."
omfg, I saw this and immediately had to check the comments hahahaha
I read this comment before checking the timestamp and felt like you lost yourself in the sauce lol
"You may not be officially dead yet but you are dead to me" absolutely killed me. Thanks, Red Alliance.
Jompo uploading on April Fools was on my bingo sheet, thank god.
Wait holy shit. Is this video… good? I didn’t even realize this was a small channel until well jnto the video. good job!
Very kind words. I'll try to keep my humanity.
I already applaud you for including that sweet sweet gentle Haven City ambience from Jak 2
Found you on my feed and decided to watch. It was really entertaining! Both the way you expressed your interest in the games and went "in depth" persé, and the tidbits of sarcasm and humour were a nice touch. I would love to see more from you!
You really make these indie games shine in the ways they do best
Dude this was such a high quality vid! Also if you're planning on making a part two, then I would recommend including Asgard's Fall, DUD or Die in the Dungeon (all these are on itch btw) gl with your channel :)
agreed, i played dud and asgard's fall in their demos and they were 🔥
Always love analysis of and spreading the word about various indie games. It's how I've found some undercover hits like Sheepy: A Short Adventure, Lil Gator Game and Assemble With Care. Games I will not stop preaching about and they are all Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam despite being mostly unheard of.
Now this here’s quality. I’ll watch your career with great interest.
Instant sub. A high quality, high effort video with relevant and original content, with it's own quirkiness without bleeding too much on the script. This is simply a hidden gem. If you plan on continuing posting videos, I'll be here for it
As an indie dev this video really healed my ailing motivation.
I'm working on a game called DR4X.
The "thanks doc" joke took me by surprise, i thought it was old, forgotten knowlege.
your reason to cover the second game is honestly so relatable
Great video, loved the message at the end. I'll for sure play mortal sin and stardrop
love videos focusing on underrated indies fuck yeah
Your delivery and script writing is great and gentle love to see someone giving good criticism with the bias of being a nice person
I didnt even notice the view count!!! this video better blow up 🙏🙏
You, sir, are a gem. Indie devs deserve more spotlight.
Love the video! But the bit about womens sport just feels a little icky. anyhow, will be subbing to see more!👍
Yeah that was a lil out of pocket even if it was intended to be unserious. Still liked the rest of the video though
Indeed, very unpleasant "joke". Too bad, the rest of the video is very interesting. I knew about none of these games.
Yeah. It was good well thought humor so far... And that kinda bigoted (or at least very clumsy) bit suddenly came out of nowhere.
Womp womp
Timestamp?
I always feel so bad for people who put effort into a project and dont even get acknowedged for it. I don't have to find the very good, but I can admire people putting their heart into something they enjoy! Thanks for being so kind and highlighting this one little indiegame that otherwise would have been forgotten. 💜
Exceptional. As always. Keep up the good work, you’re obviously doing something right
Heard of Rumble? a vr game where you can earth-bend! learning how to play the game and how to do the moves is like learning a martial art but there is a really fun community and gameplay that imo has not gotten the recognition it deserves. Another case of this is Noita ! A really fun roguelike!
The jak 2 soundtrack playing in the background took me somewhere crazy nostalgic
Anyone else kinda hears Mattpats voice in this guy or I’m just missing him?
I've been hearing him most of this video too lol
Perfect way to express that hey, even if you made a _bad_ game, you still did more than most by just _making the game at all._ You can't learn without failure so never let a rocky start deter you
But is it a clone or a perfect copy?
It's a perfect copy, but it was just shrunk down after being perfectly copied
This got to be one of the best essay kinda type video ive ever seen, absolutely incredible, loved it
Loud sudden noises in a video is *never* a good idea.
Nice content, not sure what was the female sport jab, didnt sound ironic and considering the context didnt feel like it either => what gives?
You talk about being at under 1K subscribers during the making of this video. 2 months later, I find you at 10K subscribers! I hope you are as proud of yourself as this stranger is :)
you nailed the racism joke, thats a hard thing to right and not weird
not quite on the womens sports joke tho, kinda cringe, the haha gay almost saved it, different wording coulda worked
Bro is thinking about this way to much
i agree, that one was.... ehh
the alligators in ninnin remind me of a super old amiga game called rod land =.)
had to leave at 0:01 as this sentence is blatantly false.
finally, someone on this platform is talking about one of the underrated goats that is Mortal Sin. Just found your channel through this video and honestly impressed by how high quality the video is. Keep it up!
great editing and generally funny video but that one joke about womens sport was not necessary at all :\ 37:50
I recommend you check out Disillusion (and Disillusion ST). The whole game feels bizarre and ethereal with its characters and environments. One of the most interesting games I've played
I've heard of it, but I think it has more recognition than what I am aiming for with these. But it does look cool, so I'll probably play it at the least. Maybe stream it, maybe.
@@feedjompo ah I see. Glad you find it interesting though!
Talk about hidden gems man jeez. Im not even finished the video but this kind of genuinity is the stuff I want on my timeline.
womens sports is cool tho hard disagree. I don't only watch the best teams when I watch men's sports. Same concept.
Play Downwell, i know it's not made first for phones but it has a pretty rad mobile version I can't recommend enough.
Honestly, power of 10 looks like it could be an INSANE addition to a game like Starsector-
I came to this video because I saw Mortal Sin on the thumbnail and wanted to see your opinion on it. Stayed because I loved everything about the video from your humor and style to honest reviewing of boons and flaws while also acknowledging the creators and their efforts. Nothing about the video felt degrading about the games and was genuinely interesting and made me wanna try out some of these games. Very underrated
As an indie game developer, I hope one day you'll cover my game. Someday. In the future.
You are legally allowed to self-promote to me if you want
Oh really? thanks 🙏. But my game is still work in progress. We haven’t a Steam Page yet. The name is My Lord is Hiring. I’ll give you exclusive access to our game once we have a playable demo. 😊
@@pogudesu Yeah just send me something to let me know, no need for a steam key or anything, just a link. If it looks interesting I'll give it a shot
the fact that this guy went from 900 subs to 3k subs in 10 days is amazing
wow what a hidden gem of a channel speaking about some truly hidden video game gems in a compelling manner! investing at 3.72k subs, looking forward to more videos, you've earned the attention. very well done
your editing is amazing, and the closing point of the video makes me want to ask. how much background do you have in video editing? im interested in making videos but ive always been so intimidated by the software and learning to use it. ive let it become the biggest barrier between me and making videos.
Either because you surprised yourself with what you could do, or you'll be happy to have learned and you'll know the next one will be better.
dadish is a pretty great mobile game, its got decent platforming, somewhat fun dialogue, 3 games, and more than one boss !!
Suzy cube is veeeeeeeery similar to super mario 3d land. Which is funny, because you made a comparison to Mario during that section
37:40 As someone with unironically 70+ mobile games on my phone, the only two very good ones I've found so far on there were Nameless Cat and Alto's adventure
The first one is a 2D platformer that use very effectively the simple controls to deliver a short yet very varied and engaging experience without ever getting in your face for monetisation
The second follow more the mobile game formula, and do it likely better then the first as a "play it simply anywhere at anytime as much as you want"
It only use one finger to play while still be pretty engaging for a huge while (where nameless car probably have like 2h of content + a few hours for collectibles and then it is it)
btw great video
This video is so well made that I assumed u had a whole series of this kinda video going lmao
Re: 37:44, mobile games that use good touch controls:
Every mobile card game (Legends of Runeterra and Ascension, to hit CCG and deckbuilding game)
Monument Valley 1 & 2 (touch controls in place of point and click puzzle adventure controls)
Bounden (two players hold a phone between them and have to tilt and move it to progress a level, which tends to make you dance together - this is EASILY the most creative use of the mobile format and controls I've seen!)
Space Team (It even uses motion control too!)
Aa, love finding new "inde" youtubers, lovely video, and great recomendations
Ooh, how very slightly ominous
YES! IT'S LITERALLY MY PFP!
Bro is this matpat secret channel???
27:25 "...it's like everything is falling apart, and no one cares."
Dude, that is my LIFE-LONG FEELING with things and people in general.
This is really well done. Your editing, voiceover, jokes, everything, all are on point. The Brutal Egg opening really needed a LOUD NOISE WARNING, though, IMO...
Props for including music from Jak II. Love that franchise.
