I just wanted to tell you that you took away COMPLETELY my stress over making the magic ring! The way you show in your video works out so much easier than that other way! Thanks very much and Happy Thanksgiving 2023!
Wow. I have tried the magic circle so many time and your way is the FIRST time it worked on the first try! And that is even why I viewed this. Thank you! Now back to the gnomes.
Fantastic! I did some gnomes for Christmas a few years back but used the sock method, a real shortcut! This is just adorable and I love that you’ve opened the video with gnomes for all occasions! I’m psyched to make this cutie. 💜🙏💜
I have been making tons of gnome pattern because so many people requested them. I have gnomes for every holiday (but some are not released yet), I have occupational gnomes, and I have a mile long list of other types of gnomes that have been requested from sports to princess to fairies. Hopefully this will be a long series.
This is the best pattern I have ever followed. My gnome came out adorable. Now that I followed your very informative video I will be purchasing the written pattern. Ty so very much. I am thrilled !! And you are awesome 😊
You are welcome 😊 All the gnomes are like 80% the same so you should be able to do them all mostly. Let me know if you ever have issues with the more unique parts of the gnome.
Thank you! I have had so much trouble with magic circles and working in the round in general. This tutorial is amazing and has helped me in so many ways.
So cute. I'm off to gather my supplies. I've been looking for a wee project for an organization i volunteer with. This sweet little gnome looks perfect.
Thank you for a wonderful pattern. I am in the process of making the Christmas gnome but cannot find what row to change to black for the body. Apologies if I have missed it x
Row 14 and 15 are black. (I am assuming you are making a Santa gnome.) The whole written pattern is here: www.windingroadcrochet.com/crochet-santa-gnome-pattern/
I'm new to your channel today. Your tutorial was so easy to follow. My adult daughter what a gnome for her kitchen for Christmas decorations. And I found your channel. So glad I did.
Lovely tutorial thank you! I'd love to see some spooky gnomes, like a witch or ghost gnome for Halloween! 🎃 👻 🎃 Thank you fof all the work you put into these videos!
I am just doing a basic gnome tutorial. I believe the spring gnome you are referring to is the basic gnome with flowers or mushroom spots on his/her hat.
Thank you very much for the free crochet patterns ! I love them! I've made three of them, but I'll gonna make ! They are so cute, so funny! Hugs from Csilla!
I have several gnomes on my website with patterns. I only have the videos for the basic gnome. Most gnomes are about 80% the same with just a handful of extra details. www.windingroadcrochet.com/gnome-patterns/
Another easy way to count your rows with a piece of yarn as a stitch marker is to have a longer piece of yarn and weave it back and forth through the rows as you stitch them.
I have the video series for the basic gnome on youtube and one my website I have 50+ different gnomes. I have sports gnomes, holiday gnomes, and nature inspired gnomes. Oh and essential worker gnomes.
Would you have one for a police gnome? My father recently passed and he was a police officer and his wife was a nurse I would like to make both and send them to her? Thank you very much for the free videos
I don't have a video on a police gnome, but i have the pattern. Most of the gnomes are 75-90% the same so the videos are still very useful. Here is the link: www.windingroadcrochet.com/crochet-police-gnome-free-crochet-pattern/
I offer two variations of the pattern. The free website pattern is designed to be viewed online with the photos next to the part of the pattern they show. I also offer a premium PDF pattern that is designed to be printed and is available on Etsy or Ravelry.
Hello Lindsey my name is Belinda and I am a beginner crocheter but I’ve been watching all your videos and I love them however I’m trying to crochet a Buffalo Bills gnome. I really have know idea on how to design it. I am a follower not a leader. I feel stupid saying that but I can follow most patterns ( thank god for slow motion LOL) Would you be able to do a Buffalo Bills gnome?? I hope you get back to me soon football season j😅just started
I am so happy the patterns help. I am afraid my schedule is booked through the end of the year and I don't currently have a pattern that has a buffalo Bill style hat.
The patterns are viewable in their entirety on my website. Here is the link to all the gnome patterns. www.windingroadcrochet.com/gnome-patterns/ The video only covers how to make the basic gnome. It would be the gnome at the very bottom of the page. (Because it is the oldest patterns). For the other gnomes you will need to know how to read the patterns to their unique elements (like the butterfly wings on the butterfly gnome). Most of the basic pieces (body, arms, legs, beard) are made the same for all the gnomes.
You can find a directory of all the gnome patterns here: www.windingroadcrochet.com/gnome-patterns/ There is a lot of them so you may need to scroll a bit.
I had problems with the body and the hat, well gnome came fat😮 and the hat to small, but I finished it. I'm doing it again with a D crochet hook. Let's see what happens
It is a simple pattern. You can make the gnome taller, though he is meant to be sitting down and not standing. You can also work extra hat rows to make the hat larger. Just increase by 3 every other row. I am curious, did you use the same color of yarn for the hat and body? One issue I have had is that some saturated color yarns are thicker than the other colors. For example, my gnome bodies in red are too big for a hat in a different color. If you look at the stitch count, the hat should be big enough to lay over the top two rows of the body. Also make sure that you are not closing up the body. It should remain open and the hat will close it up.
Oh sweetheart, a magic circle, take your yarn wrap around 2 fingers once, then twice, leaving space in between. Take your hook dip under the 1string grab the 2nd string and pull it under the string in back to front motion, pull through. Without releasing the circle, grab the working yarn, yarn over, chain 1. Voila, you have magic circle. You can now work in the round. Easy peasy.
Yes that is the traditional way and it works great. I have used my method and I have never had an issue. Many people struggle with the magic circle and I shared my method with them in a video and 100s of people have told me it was a life changer. I philosophy is to crochet in a way that works best for you. It is a lovely craft and I want as many people as possible to enjoy it.

If the hat on the gnome is straight up then they normally turn out about 7 inches tall if you gauge matches mine. There may be some slight variation depending on if you crochet tight or loose.
Everyone has their preference. There are written patterns for all of these gnomes, you can find them here: www.windingroadcrochet.com/gnome-patterns/ I think there is close to 30 different styles of gnomes now.
