i can't even imagine being a surgeon and looking at an elbow like that and thinking "yeah i can maybe fix that". gotta give insane credit to the surgeons for being able to put you back together at all much less put you back together so well
Absolutely! It’s incredible that they are able to do so much these days. My arm surgeon feels very confident that I’ll be able to get a decent percentage of the range of motion in my right arm back to what it was. They say it might require another surgery, and that’s OK with me. I trust that they are my best shot at getting back to some sense of normalcy. All of the surgeons that have worked on me have been incredible. For that, I feel so fortunate.
@@AnthonyVellathank god for the era of medicine we are currently in. I mean if this happened even 20 years ago, you might’ve had no hope at saving your arm and the further back you go the least likely and injury like that can be fixed. Gotta hand it to surgeons, the stuff that they can do is insane.
When he started talking about his friend Lee and how he died from the EXACT SAME accident, I knew this man would be on his paramotor again as fast as he could possibly recover
Very true, happend to me when I wrecked my car, my best friend sat with me and told me to calm down and tend to the others and how it wasn’t my time, never got back into a hobby so fast in my life
I was struck off my bike by a drunk driver at 13. I remember a friend of mine, who'd drowned a couple years prior, on the curb while I laid there with my dad doing first aid. Whether it's a ghost, an angel, or your brain just bringing your friend out to comfort you, I can assure you Lee was there. My accident will be 12 years this July, and surviving that moment is the hardest it'll get. Much love and swift recovery, man. ♡
@@AnthonyVellai saw your video a while ago, man it sent shivers down my spine, im glad you are doing alright. This is crazy i hope your recovery goes well.
If only he loved his family and friends enough, to stop doing something that he was so bad at he almost died doing it. And if it wasn't An issue with his skill level and something like this could randomly happen to anyone then he should stop even more so. I just see the selfishness, And feel bad for his love ones. He clearly isn't going to stop until he loses his life Doing this
@@chinbosschinboss2484 The inverse selfishness, is when family or friends, expect you to deny yourself a great joy, so THEY don't have to deal with any risk involved. What is considered allowable risk, driving a car? I see your point, but can't quite agree.
Self-hatred is such an easy feeling. Just thinly veiled self-pity. Overcoming that, accepting help and support from others, and working on your own recovery, that's the hard part.
@@darkstudios001I can’t think of a single person in my life Ive written off as a burden. Whenever I feel like a burden I wonder if other people think the same as me but just don’t show it. That usually makes me feel better.
"You know what the hardest part of paramotoring is? The ground" Man, that's a badass statement from a crash survivor. Just discovered your channel today, hope your recovery is going smoothly!
I work in level 1 trauma. Surgical services. Dude. Glad you're alive. This has always been a passion to pursue at some point; paramotoring seems so cool. Hearing your story reminds me how much patients go through outside of the operating room. All we do is fix a bone but so much more work actually has to be done. much love. passion safely.
Thank you very much. I have so much respect for those who work in emergency medicine, including the ICU (well, all medical personal I suppose). This experience has been eye opening in a positive way. Also, I love the "passion safely" comment. Thanks again for your support!
"The docotor told me I wouldnt be able to walk for a few months" 3 weeks later and here you are. Incredible story. You got a new subscriber I look forward to the day you fly again.
Thank you, Logan (I think that's your name). I am really fortunate to be healing this well. Admittedly, the well wishes from family, friend, and comments like yours have given me so much strength. Thank YOU for your support. ❤️
When the surgeon said " I'm going to have a hard time with that" my heart sank. I probably wouldn't fly again if my surgeon told me that. But you are a stronger man than me.
To be fair, the doctor was probably just speaking to healing prognosis, and did not want to overpromise on the extent of the patient's recovery. To say, "Oh yeah you'll definitely fly again," and then the healing body doesn't like that plan, then it's a hard pill to swallow. Docs don't want to overpromise and paint expectations. They have to be brutally honest, in the gentlest way possible. It does look like Anthony will be ok to fly again physically based on his progress from what we can see and he reports, but these were serious injuries.
I interpreted that a bit differently. Asking his surgeon if he'll be able to fly again is akin to asking his dentist if he can keep eating candy, right after having a cavity treated.
@@TenMillionYearProgram42 wow. I’m seriously impressed with how you responded to this. Not only did you do it in a respectful manner, but you were totally on point. That doctor was my spinal surgeon. I think he did the face palm because he was surprised that I would still want to do it considering everything that I was going through in that moment. Quite accurately, he said that we would be able to discuss that at a later date. I interpreted that as he just wanted to see how well I was recovering, and then make a decision once I’m healed. thanks for the response to this comment. I really enjoyed the conversation.
You bring up a good point! It has been hard to hear people suggest that I might not be able to fly again. I don’t think that’s what the surgeon was saying necessarily. I think he was considering my wounds and was surprised that I was thinking about flying again, all things considered. I really appreciate your comment and your support! You’re a good dude Josh! Thank you.
Your video has provoked a physical response in me. I no longer feel tired and will not procrastinate, nor take anything for granted ever again. It's really motivated me to work harder. Thank you for uploading. It is phenomenal that you are alive. I have extremely high confidence that you are going to bounce back from this and recover extremely quickly 🔥🙏⚡
Dude, we don't know each other but your video really hit me hard. Praise the Lord you are alive and your wonderful family gets to have you in their lives. It was so heart warming to see your wife so committed to your recovery being there with you. And your kids man, I had held it together until your kids came into the picture and I lost it. I put myself in your shoes for a moment and I have to tell you it did not feel good. Seeing your kids really drove the gravity of the entire situation home. I could not fathom watching my kids see me in a situation like yours. Anyway, God Bless you bud and your family, get well soon.
Had the pleasure of meeting Grant Thompson (TKOR channel) and was friends with his family prior to Grants paramotor death in 2019. It was this exact reason and accidents like this I dropped my pursuits into paramotoring. Then last year another pilot friend of mine had an unplanned decent fighting forest fires in northern Alberta and was killed. Cancelled my flight programs, loaded up the VR sim instead and won't be going back to aviation. Stay safe out there guys.
You shouldn't do extreme sports and hobbies if you have a family that depend on you and/or have a deep love of life. I feel that as a human experiencing flight is one of the best feelings ever but you have to carefully consider if the risk of falling out of the sky to your death is worth the feeling. Was really sad to hear about Grant because I really enjoyed his videos, even sadder to hear about the family he left behind.
I can totally understand… When I first started to pursue paramotoring, I too was put-off after Grant’s accident. Almost gave up right then and there. I was a huge fan of his and had really been watching a ton of TKOR’s videos too. I put my training on pause and attended a paramotoring event here in Arizona. I met some pilots and a few trainers too. The owner of the airport/airstrip and I got to chatting and we discussed paragliding as an alternative option. He put me in contact with my paragliding instructor and I started training. The day before my first flight, a fellow pilot wrecked his newly purchased hang-glider (a very fast and sporty wing) and he was airlifted to the hospital. Our group was camping and training in Northern Arizona so we had our own pilot debrief around the campfire later that evening. The next day, I had to really decide if paragliding was the right form of aviation for me… buncha crazy clowns running off cliffs with strings attached to bedsheets and no motor? 🤪 Later that day, we took a truck up to the top of launch. I stood there all geared-up… thoughts of my friend’s wreck and Grant’s death swirled around in my head, but eventually I shook off the all the negative internal dialogue and went for it. A gust of wind came along, the perfect cycle, and I inflated my wing… I ran off the mountaintop and eased back into my harness for my first flight. I pushed out away from the mountain (an inactive volcano) and enjoyed a short sledder down the the LZ where I nailed the landing with excitement! If you’re considering getting into paramotoring (PPG), then I highly recommend getting your P3 paraglider certification beforehand. Paramotoring training is VERY different from paragliding training with regards to: rules, clubs, organization, and especially: continued education. Get your P3 and take a SIV course before strapping on a 45lb motor and all sorts of camera gear. And for goodness sake folks fly with a reserve or two reserves! Yes, you can get a front-mount and a side-mount reserve nowadays! Dual reserves! Side note: the campfire is a great place for these discussions, but never on launch. We try our best to keep things positive on launch. Lastly, if you are on launch with other pilots, please keep your doubts to yourself. I’ve seen other pilots cast such a shadow of doubt regarding launch conditions that 2/3rds of the pilots refuse to take off. Meanwhile, myself and 3 other pilots launched without any problems and had incredible flights too. I watched 8 pilots hike BACK DOWN THE MOUNTAIN disappointed and frustrated on that particular day because one pilot was such an outspoken naysayer: “naw man, these conditions are whack. Nobody should be launching in this. I’m not flying. I’m not flying. Are you flying? Cuz, I’m not flying. I’m gonna hike down. You’d be crazy to launch in this.” Me 5 minutes later flying over launch: 🫡 It’s important to know your own abilities and limits though. Fixed wing might be a better form of aviation for some folks. Don’t let other people’s mishaps deter you from pursuing your own passions in life. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading all that! Please find a local paraglider/hangglider launch near you and go hang out for the day! Spectate, assist if requested, and find out where the next ground-school/kiting day is happening. Then go to that! 😁🤘🏼 USHPA.org is a great resource too
People are gonna disagree with me big time on my opinion. You have young kids that greatly depend on you in countless ways. Stop the dangerous hobby. You can be mad at me but im right!
I agree. After an accident like this my focus would only be on my family. Think about how bad that accident was. Your kids and wife will not be okay if you go up there again.
Would you give up driving for good because you have a family and people die everyday in motor vehicle accidents? That’s what they tell Motorcyclists, we had 5 fatal motorcycle accidents this week in my region but I still went out on my motorcycle yesterday and the day before, I saw many others out riding as well because it’s part of who we are, without it we wouldn’t be as happy 😃

Orthopedic and neuro surgeons are heroes in my eyes. Those people bring so much of someone's old life back after awful injuries, it's just amazing. My injury wasn't nearly as severe as yours, but I shattered the right side of my pelvis in a wind sports accident. About an inch from breaking the ilium all the way off, dislocated hip, cracked acetabulum, and some other smaller breaks. It's wild, but it didn't hurt when I hit the ground, it was just really loud. It hurt after because I got yanked and dropped 3 more times, but the initial part was just a loud bang. Ortho surgeon put me back together, and some hard work at PT, but I got back on my feet. Don’t want to be downer but I would branch out to another hobby. Your healing is going great but all those injuries will haunt you in a few years . When you cross 40, you will feel every single injury. Therefore I would suggest to treat your body with the upmost care from on. Don’t overdue anything whether it’s physically or psychologically. You will pay for it later and I doubt that you want to be hooked to pain pills just to brush your teeth. I am being harsh to get my point across and I am sorry about that. As a nurse of 24 years healing doesn’t mean you are ok. With age all of our injuries come back tenfold. You have kids and hopefully a long life ahead of you. It’s more important to be able to play with your kids in 10 years from now than to fly, jump or anything else. Go on leisure trips walks, take your supplements, find a good holistic doctor, a physical therapist that will focus on long term care instead of let’s get you up and moving again. This accident won’t just go away and neither will the injuries. You know that better than anyone else. Most certainly you love what you do but you love your family and your health more. Think about what you what else brings you joy that you could do, vlog on without causing additional damage to your body.

Were you part of the mastermind group?
You shouldn't do extreme sports and hobbies if you have a family that depend on you and/or have a deep love of life.
I feel that as a human experiencing flight is one of the best feelings ever but you have to carefully consider if the risk of falling out of the sky to your death is worth the feeling.
Was really sad to hear about Grant because I really enjoyed his videos, even sadder to hear about the family he left behind.
I can totally understand…
When I first started to pursue paramotoring, I too was put-off after Grant’s accident.
Later that day, we took a truck up to the top of launch.
You’d be crazy to launch in this.”
Me 5 minutes later flying over launch: 🫡
It’s important to know your own abilities and limits though.
USHPA.org is a great resource too

That going either way the person who was close to death and the person having to watch them fail and succeed it's a passion to see progress and on top of that would you want to be told that you can't live your life. I think this mf is living his life right he's showing his kids never give up. Some people would die just for the opportunity for that so don't kill his drive.
@@turbodemon2jz227Except this is just a hobby. Responsibility comes before fun.
Glad you feel so superior as to be more responsible than the rest of us. What made you come here and watch this? Thats what i want to know.
@@TheJacklwilliams Because UA-cam thought I'd be interested and recommended it to me, same as the rest of you. I just think leaving kids to grow up fatherless is kinda bad you feel?
@@turbodemon2jz227 Love and compassion would be protecting your health and wellbeing to be there for the lives you brought into this world, just my humble opinion on that. Risking your life when people depend on you is selfish, by definition.
I'm impressed, the fact that you stayed concious after the fall, able to give proper response, is just insane, i'm sure i would've passed out already.
Hey man, I'm so glad you had such a supportive community around you as you healed.
Anthony, not sure how you can still pump out this kinda content...you are one amazing person! You are certainly blessed with having such a beautiful support group. I wish the BEST for you, I know you will get well soon! May the "Force Be With You."
Glad to see you staying positive. Heal up quickly
Thank you, glen!
wow you are a brave man ! wish you speedy recovery . from the paramotor community from UK
I came across your video because of a repost someone did on a short. So glad you can smile still. Some people have no support after an accident. God bless you.
I’ve never seen your channel before but I hope you complete your full recovery bro!
Love from Mars 💚
The most inspirational thing I've seen in a long time. Beautiful.
So glad to see you recovering, and welcome back home!
Here in Japan when I got injured paragliding, shattering a vertebra, before the surgery they only gave me NSAIDs (and a nurse forgot to open rhe IV containing the acetaminophen anyway, so effectively nothing for the first few hours haha), and after surgery to insert the hardware the best they gave me was tramadol. For the second surgery 18 months later to remove the hardware I only got NSAIDs. It wasn't fun! Japan has a fear of stronger painkillers, and a strong culture of "gaman" (toughen it up)...
Take care and good luck on your road to recovery!
Great video. Thank you for sharing! I have no doubt that your kids have helped you get better quicker. They have a power to affect us in ways that people without kids just can’t understand. I’m glad you have such a great support system. Keep it up. Stay strong.
Everytime i get a desire to buy a paramotor i see cases like yours and say no to myself.
Im so joyed that youre okay though, you got lucky or blessed. I hope for a good recovery for you and little pain in the future.
how you've survived this horrible crash and keep on bringing light and positivity to the world is the MOST inspiring thing I've seen in my life. I was in tears towards the end.
Recover fast, wish you and your family happiness..
My friends and I love saying 'I crashed my flying machine; to each other. Glad you're recovering
Just make sure you're wearing a top hat when you say it. 😂💀
Man, thank you so much for this, its the most valuable lesson I have had in 3 years of paramotoring. I am confident you will recover fast and sure you will be even better than before, also its no doubt that you will keep flying and shooting awesome videos for all of us. Thank you, wish you soonest recovery.
Man I’ll be honest I have strayed away from watching the crash purposely because it is so hard for me as a fairly new paramotor pilot. I’ve been tagged in almost every post videos of your crash. It’s these videos that really hit home for me in seeing your character through it all. You’re so blessed man and have so many great supporters!!! Much love!
I'm following your story since day one, and I am so glad you're getting better. Hopefully, you will get through this and soon be up in the sky again. You're a legend, bro.
Greetings from Chile, South America.
I really appreciate your support! I hope to visit Chile someday. Perhaps we can meet up when that time comes. 😁🙌❤️
This man's positive attitude despite horrific injuries is going to take him across the finish line.
Heal up brother and thank you for your content and inspiring story.
You still have your life, and what a wonderful life it is ❤ All the best for you on your road to recovery, Anthony.
Thank you so much! ❤️
God bless you and your family Anthony. My prayers for a swift and full recovery. ✝🙏🙏
Thank you for the prayers! I am truly blessed.
Anthony, the way you have handled such a painful and traumatic experience is amazing and uplifting.
You, your lovely wife and children, are really heroic and inspiring.
I sincerely hope you can achieve near to full fitness thanks to the wonderful skill and care of all the health professionals who put you back together.
Please though do everything you can once back in the sky to ensure nothing like this ever happens again!
You are a great guy and person, thanks for posting.
Reading your comment has made my day. I showed it to Leandra as well. We both thank you for the kind words and support. And yes, when I return to the sky, I will absolutely follow all precautions to ensure I touch down gently from now on.
Glad to see you doing so well under the circumstances
So glad to see you on the mend, brother. Don't rush any if it! The sky won't be going anywhere. Thank you for the update!
You’re welcome. Thank you for the support buddy!
What you said at 8:02.. I really sympathize with that. After my dad died I kept having dreams of us doing our usual mundane things together but I'd always wake up and have to come to terms with his passing all over again. Those dreams (and the very few minutes after them) are some of the last times everything felt normal
I’m sorry to hear that. That’s terrible to have to go through that over and over again. I hope that, with time, you stop experiencing that.
Planning on flying right after my ER shift today. I’ll dedicate this flight to you Anthony!
I'm absolutely brand new here, but I did see your Paramotor crash video on Facebook and I knew the injuries had to be significant. And to my surprise, many people were in the comments bashing you saying negative things like "Stop crying & walk it off" (in a nice way), but you don't just walk off something that crazy. All in all, the good Lord above was watching over you and He is the reason you're still alive breathing to this day. I honestly thought this event was going to be fatal, but brother I'm so glad to see you made it and are making a great recovery! This will be an insane story to tell for the rest of your days! I hope you recover quickly and get back to your daily life and routine! Next time, triple check and be safe out there!
Glad to still have you, you truly deserve a place on this earth. Have a speedy and painless recovery.
Love from South Africa 🇿🇦❤️.
such a positive person, wishing you the best of luck with your recovery
absolute chad. Hope you get better soon!
Thank you!
Glad you're ok!!! I was seriously looking at paramotors on line and was really excited about getting into a new hobby!!! BUT WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR CHANGING MY MIND!!!! REALLY GLAD YOUR OK !!! GOOD LUCK
Heal up quick, Ant. God speed !
“Yknow the hardest part of paramotoring? The ground.” Comedy gold lmaooo
Get well soon, man! This is insane, wish you strength.
Anthony, you are amazing! Great spirit and appreciate sharing your lessons and struggles. Great attitude man!! Don’t listen to the trolls either. Glad guys like Tucker and Adam know how hard it is to update everyone like you are doing. Press on soldier!!!
This turned me off completely from my desire to fly para
Para motoring is so dumb. All you hear about it is death and serious injury. Such a dorky way to die or get injured
@@ryanhacker9444 What's dumb about it? It can absolutely be safe. "All you hear about it is death and serious injury" is a typical symptom of algorithms feeding you only the scandalous stuff. The internet is radicalizing in every sense. Your feed is distorting your perception.
@@ryanhacker9444 What is life worth if you don't do what you'd like to do?

Wait till you find out about everything else that can cause these injuries. At least with para motoring you can fly like a bird.
I feel like everything in life happens for reason and this will make you grow stronger and wiser. Love you brother! Hope you heal up soon..can't wait for more content.
Your story and positivity are infectious - in a good way of course! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Ben. I really appreciate it. 🙏🏻
I remember seeing the first video. I'm so glad everything is going well. As a student pilot I cant imagine going through all that. Hope everything continues to get better!
Damn, sir. That is a formidable crash but it had no idea who it was up against. Kick ass and take names, my guy. You are running that road to recovery!
Think about what you what else brings you joy that you could do, vlog on without causing additional damage to your body.
putting a motor and propeller on a parachute is crazy stupid. Gravity you know.
@@6stringcodger450 It costs free.99 to not say crap like this. We know our hobby is a tad dangerous. There is no need for you to be a dick.
@@joshua7551 If you are going to publicly share stupid behavior on the internet then you have no right to complain when other people rightfully point out how stupid it is... This video is like a morbidly obese mukbang youtuber posting vlogs about their recovery from a heart attack, and them talking about how they'd like to go back to doing the exact activity that almost killed them in the first place. Yes I am sure it is very fun and pleasurable for them, but there is so much more to life. To normal people without any mental illness videos like this are very weird and frustrating to watch.
6 deaths per year
Wow really? Thats actually a pretty big number considering not many people actually do this@@Popcorn_Pillow
3:47 god d**nit the censoring was not helpful in the slightest on that clip.
How does your family feel about you flying again? My father flew hang gliders in the 70's and 80's. Unfortunately 3 people close to him passed away from glider crashes in a short time, including a father and young son. The deaths combined with my brother being born led dad to agree with my mom that he would stop flying so that he would be around to support his family. I hope you take in to consideration your young family too. It seems like you have a great life/family and you are at a crossroads. Good luck on the recovery, I'll follow and watch the process.
You would think that his friend dying in a catastrophic paramotor accident barely a year ago would have been a warning. Or the fact that he has young kids.
I saw your video on instagram, and saw some idiots in the comments saying you only fell like 10 or 20 feet. I could tell it was higher than that just by the amount of time the fall took. Praying for a quick recovery for you man, stay safe in the future! Glad to see the progress you have made so far!
It's a shame that people want to minimize a situation like this - I'm glad you have eyes that can see how serious this was. Thank you very much.
9:15 My mom was dying laughing
Such a lovely wife,,
Just my opinion don’t take it to heart. You shouldn’t fly again, the risk outweighs the reward. It’s selfish for ur family.
yeah. I think at this point you've gotta drop the whole paramotoring. One more fall and it will guaranteed be the last fall, this incident has already shaved like a dozen years off this mans life without him knowing - then to go and say ''sign me up again'' is mindboggling. If he had no wife or kids, lived a borderline ''Jackass'' typa lifestyle, sure do your thing Mr.redbull.
@@DaminionzYep. The back, arm, and pelvis injury are the start of a long decline. Chronic pain, painkillers, accelerated damage to adjacent vertebrae and disks, more pain, declining mobility, decreased physical axtivity, and then the cardiovascular, diabetes, and dementia risks downstream of low mobility. Its awful. When I heard the guy has kids I about died.
