  • Part 4 of the how to chainsaw carve.
In this episode we talk about how to make that staple of wood carving, the bear. We also start to talk about some finishing and burning techniques to help bring your carvings to life. Use this simple design to make your own bear, and don't be afraid to do a few of the steps differently to make something more to your taste.

Hey nice video! Just finished my owl and can't wait to start my bear ;) But i have a problem: The peak of my carving bar (no sprocket) gets very hot after a couple of minutes.... is that something to worry about? (I use a special chain oil and the chain itself has a low chain tension; all stihl products)

Hi. make sure to run your carving chain much looser than you would with a normal saw. it should hang a bit so you can see a few teeth. this is because the carving bar doesn't have a sprocket in the end like a normal chainsaw bar. if it is still getting hot, loosen it a bit more. hope this helps.

thanks for your answer. i will test it tomorrow!
What oil do you use to run the chain?

any old chain oil really. i just get the cheapest. but it might be worth switching it up if your having problems, just to make sure.
