One of the most underrated wrestlers ever and one of my favorites. Great worker, great psychology and great on the mic. WWF fans make fun of him but they have no idea , it’s not his fault WWF did nothing with him. As a southern fan I loved watching Tracy in SMW as the main baby face for that promotion.
Only half way through this...but this could be the best shoot I’ve seen. Tracey has seen and done it all and tells it like it is, honest and pulls no punches. Great interview technique, again actually allowing the guy we are watching to talk without interrupting. Great stuff, thanks
Yes it was. It was proof that if he was given the opportunity he could rise to the top. The only reason he didn’t rise to the top in WWF, WCW or ECW is because flat out, he wasn’t given the opportunity. All three of those companies put him in silly gimmicks except for WCW but he was in a tagteam there. SMW was great.
One of my all time favorites. He is part of the generation that held professional wrestling up during the downtime. He was the main top baby face in SMW. Tracy is a legend to southern fans. RIP Tracy Smothers #riptracysmothers
i heard from different other Wrestlers he is one of the nicest guys in the business and he was a great Workhorse too.and hannibal what a Monster Shoot.
I enjoyed the interview. Tracy is so honest. Finally got to meet him in Dothan AL at a reunion show a few years back. Nice guy. I’ll always remember him as The Wild Eyed Southern Boy. So sorry to hear about your concussions that’s heart breaking. Also saw where the cancer has come back Prayers to you Tracy. YOU AINT NO JOBBER TO ME!! One of the best in the business.
" It was July 1996 I believe in Yakima, Washington when I was was with WWF. Beautiful location, nice building. Arena 90% full. Creative wanted to do something that would involve JBL and Freddie Joe Floyd who most people know now as Tracy Smothers. So they booked me and Tracy together. Of course, I'm going to do the honors and they asked me, out of respect what would be a good finish. I've always been told that if you're losing, do it in a memorable way. I told the agent for the match, Chief Jay Strongbow, to have Tracy beat me 3 times in a 3 minute span before we brought Bradshaw into the mix. Chief looked at me like WTF man? and kind of laughed because he thought I was kidding. I wasn't. My job that night was to get Tracy over as strong as I could. Chief had never seen guys lobby on how to get beat. As an agent, he was used to guys trying to drop the losing part. Not only was I agreeable to losing, I was adding 2 more losses into the mix. When it was over, guys asked Chief how did you get Zeb to do that finish? Chief said I told him I'd beat his f’n ass if he didn't go along with it. Then he told them it was my idea. In spite of what you've heard folks, losing doesn't make you weaker. Done right, it can make you stronger. Both Bradshaw and me both left the ring that night with a helluva lot more steam than we went in with. So did Tracy. We all won and the fans did too. Very entertaining 5 minute segment. And memorable." - Dutch Mantell, Instagram RIP Tracey Smothers (1962 - 2020)
Allot of great memories from this interview. Growing up in North Alabama the territory that Tracy worked was the area that we received local TV coverage from. Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee. Many of the names I remember from watching late night Saturday broadcast with the family. He was a true wrestler.
Love this shoot so much I watched it again Tracy was so good in the Wild Eyed Southern Boys gimmick and great in ECW hes sick I heard I hope he is doing good my prayers are with him thanks for the interview

This is now the third time I'm going to watch this entire interview. The stories Tracy has are god damn amazing, and he was 100% one of the last few tough badasses this shithole planet has to offer. Rest in peace brother. By the way, FUCK cancer.
I wonder what happened to that girl that played his daughter I think her original gimmick name was Mickey Knuckles or something she's the chick that was fighting the guy that almost got killed by Ian rotten and his crew for supposedly not selling in 08 against her at one of Ian rottens notorious garbage Outlaw wrestling show I think had a few matches as Tracy's kayfabe daughter in TNA then she broke her real real bad the only other thing I can find her on after that is an episode or two of the Jerry Springer Show LOL.
@sharpknifeproductions2226 I’m old and I don’t remember him. He was in wwf wcw and Ecw apparently. What underground wrestling are you watching ? You hated wwf in the 80s and 90s?
