At long last we are ready to share episode 1 of our English Country Kitchen Remodel series! This has been over a year in the making and today's visit is packed! We will share the before, what we love most and want to keep in our original 1960s kitchen, what we will change, our cottage style inspiration, and sources! My hope is that this series will give you the confidence to create that English country cottage style in your home. Enjoy!

For 30 + years I followed what was considered the “in style” look for my home. However, I was never truly happy with the look of our home. Several years ago, after a visit to our son and daughter in law, I realized there were parts of the farmhouse style that I really liked.
I immediately started to thrift for items to give me that look and to get rid of a lot of the Victorian touches in my home. Once my house was fully farmhouse style for several years, I realized that there were elements of the Victorian style that were actually cottage style….beautiful floral and transfer ware dishes, doilies, paint colors, etc that I had gotten rid of and really missed. It was then that I realized, finally, that my style is cottage with small touches of farmhouse. Now I am slowly turning my home onto a beautiful cottage style.

Yes to entertaining and fellowship! This and serving our families daily is what home is for! we both really do love this house. It's our first house and we have so many wonderful memories here. We've been given this home to care for and it's the nicest home we've even lived in. someday we hope to buy land in the country and on that day leaving here will be bitter sweet. I am so glad you decided to keep the good quality, solid wood cabinetry instead of replacing it with "new" ones. Not everybody appreciates the quality of some features of the older homes. I'm sure the kitchen looks fabulous. TFS.

That's the idea! Maybe you missed it, but we do plan to update the existing cabinets by painting them. You're right, they are totally worth keeping ~ great minds think alike!
I'm so glad you're not ripping out the cupboards & replacing them with new ones. Those original cupboards look solid & I also love the scalloped edges. They're going to look amazing repainted. I can't wait to see it xx

The intercom was amusing. This hose is so small that if you wanted to talk to someone in the bedroom, you'd have to whisper into the intercom so they wouldn't hear you!

Your ideas are very inspirational! We moved into a house with an oak kitchen, too. I've decided to keep the oak. We added a mostly white tile backsplash and ivory quartz countertop with warm "marble" veining. So far, so good. I got a new range too, not inexpensive these days! My next fridge will be "counter depth" for a better look and feel. Thank you for sharing!

@StoneCottageHome The only thing I can remember is the company name is Keystone Marble & Granite. I'm in Delaware. We did not choose a name- brand product as they fabricate their own quartz items for MUCH less $ and a great warranty. We are very happy with our choice!

I have these exact cabinets, only mine are darker. I want to keep the dark wood but am finding it hard to find examples of cottage decor that isn’t painting the cabinets. After seeing yours painted I am not that sure I want to keep them dark now. 😂 Thank you so much!
