Edge Milling with Timber Tuff Chainsaw Guide

- I really need to mod this saw, with only 50cc's sometimes it's just easier to take two passes when edge milling thicker logs like this with my Timber Tuff. Having a Granberg ripping chain on it makes a huge difference though, it took much longer with a full chisel chainand left nowherenear as clean a cut!

Haha, thanks! Pretty "straightforward" task though 😉
Gteat device for planking a log. 👍
@@user-fk6in8hb6r Agreed!
Wondering if it can be done with clamps to not make extra holes in the wood. Or those holes won't be visible?
I've thought about it, would have to be something like a really long version of the MatchFit clamps from Microjig...The screws do leave holes but they aren't very deep or noticeable, still would be nice to avoid them though.
The other day I saw someone using L brackets to secure a log when using a different mill, but it got me thinking they could probably be used with this setup. Just secure the brackets under the guide bar and to the ends of the log. Would be holes in the ends of the log but whatever. Might also be some wiggle in the middle of the guide bar for longer cuts, but could easily just use some double-sided woodworking tape. I'll give it a try next log I mill up.
I use an alaskan mill and dont know why I never got this baby 😮. Gotta do it now... As for your question I nail into my timber for the alaskan all the time. As long as you dont PREDRILL, and theres no reason you would, green timber will fill the holes in quickly and completly. Old dry timber is another story. If youre that fussy about surface finish, but green wood has elasticity and will self heal in short order
@TC72280808 I wish the same could be said about screws. Even without pre-drilling I'll still find holes in the green stuff 2 years later when it's dried. Really isn't a big deal to me though.
@@OverkillWoodcraft I should make a point here. I live in Northern Alberta. Birch is the hardest wood we have here. My experience is mostly with pine so I shouldnt comment when I have no hard wood experience.

How often do you have to sharpen the teeth on a chainsaw blade?
Really depends, but I made about 8 cuts like this and then gave them a light sharpening.
Yes.
@@user-qg1ig8xs5n that's what I thought
Vas verificando.

Can you cut boards with this?
@@DougVeazey-zl3xz Definitely. The log would need to be wider and it takes more time than a chainsaw mill though, which is I why I use the chainsaw mill after this. More efficient and maximizes the yield.
@@OverkillWoodcraft all right! Thanks a lot!
@@DougVeazey-zl3xz No problem!
Cool video! Ive never seen this device. Smart. How is the Proyama holding up? I have same saw only one tank of fuel through er yet but so far I like it. Im curious of your opinion on the saw.
Thanks! The Timber Tuff was $40 well spent! Honestly, it's been a great saw...especially since it ended up being free haha. I was annoyed at first because it advertised a 22" bar but ended up being 20", and I needed a 22" for a tree. So I called Amazon because I couldn't return it and they just refunded me. It does leak a bit of bar oil no matter how hard you crank down the screw but that's really the only critique I have. I've run it way harder than it probably should be expected and for years, still going strong. Would definitely mod the muffler though!
@@OverkillWoodcraft thanks for the fast reply and cheers free is great.

You can’t eyeball that ?
As in not use a guide for this cut? I'm sure I could but it wouldn't be as accurate, safe, or efficient and it would just suck in general. Especially when there's 7 other cuts this size and longer. Have you ever done all that freehand?
@@OverkillWoodcraft try eyeballing it then run through industrial planner think me later. You will see you are better than you think you are brother!
@@mrtahoe I appreciate that...Not about me being better though, it's about me not wanting to. I make furniture with most of this and have to reference the edge on my 6" jointer, so I want the edge to be as straight as possible.
