Squirrel, FYI on the use of the solid white line along US roads.: The solid white line on the right side is called the 'fog line' used to help cars stay in their lane during foggy conditions and help pedestrians stay off the road.
@16:33 Bluff, Utah is named after the cliffs and rock formations that are famous for that area, Moab is also more know for it, Moab also has slickrock.
I feel like we miss a lot from the screen ...you do play on a wide-screen but record in 16:9 Maybe record in the full wide-screen so we can see the mirrors 😁 Just a suggestion 😊
Yeah, he has an ultra-wide screen on his rig. I've also noted the cropping leaving out the mirrors in both videos. I don't know if I'd want an ultra wide screen video though, so I'd just advise a little more awareness while recording that we're not gonna be able to see the monitor edges.
Wow - first time ever I have seen you turn down the high beam when meeting an opposing vehicle - weel done! I would like to see a mod that when you do not turn down you will be blinded, completely white screen - like when dozing off - and a 1 second period to regain focus.
17:06 Clearly you don’t know small town America very well. I can’t sleep most nights (even in light of recent events) because there’s always random people who are unaware that mufflers are a thing flying up and down my road at 3 A.M.
Evan Richardson At least you can escape that with some earplugs. I have the ghetto sleds around here that come through with bass music loud enough to vibrate the house from 3 blocks away. Followed by the occasional "drive-by" where they shoot something and speed off. Police sirens always, yet still no results on stopping that shit. Sometimes I feel like the police are just messing around with them instead of actually chasing them down, which sounds dumb, but there's no way the sirens are in the area at the same time of night for over half the month every month without arresting the whole block by now. I gotta move to the country.
Thanks Paul, i have really missed your Truckin videos, i tought you had forgot all about them and didn't cover the game anymore on UA-cam. The videos where you drive around in ETS2 or ATS and just talk and take journey. Is why i came here in the first place. And why im still here. you are still the best to make these videos, so keep let them coming. Love from BCS & Cindy
What's going on? I haven't touched the game for a year or so, want to get back into it and just assumed there'd be a recent upload from Squirrel so I could see what's what. Surprise then that he hasn't uploaded anything ETS2/ATS since this one? Really?? Lost interest? Following the money elsewhere? Ah well.
Hi Squirrel. Like your comments during this vid. US roads that aren’t divided highway are most usually with white on the edges and yellow in the middle. I agree with you wanting to go across along the Canadian border. After ID and CO, I’d like to see MT and WY before TX is looked into. (To clarify: Idaho, Colorado, then Montana, Wyoming before Texas). I now have the TH8A at home, but currently on the road in the real truck to help pay for the home time. Stay safe, and keep on trucking.
Don't even worry about the Horse Power in-game, SCS only models torque. Found this out while editing engine files and the only thing to change was torque while HP was only in the name of the engine.
I have seen plenty of those Utah State Trooper cars. They are fast, haha. Moab, Utah is an amazing place. It can get up to 43C during the hot summer days.
Glad to see trucking diaries back, Idaho is next and then Colorado!!! Just hope it's not gonna be a month before we see a new video... been over a month now since episode 50....
The story of your friend reminds me of a summer job I had. In 2015 I was between sophomore and junior year of college and had a summer job delivering for this Mexican restaurant in Minneapolis. Would get there at 6 pm, drive until 1 am, then it usually took about 2 hours to clean the kitchen (the restaurant closed at 2 am), so I'd be driving home in the dark, completely alone on the roads. Would go to sleep back home with the birds starting to chirp.
In reality, 18 gears is not going to save you from how hair-pullingly weak 370HP, the day would drag on far longer than it should. My Cummins ISX-equipped Freightliner in real life is 450HP and that's on the low end in comparison to most tractors on the road in North America. They go all the way up to 600HP from the factory.
As someone from Nebraska, I have to say I'm very offended at something I greatly agree with. But hey! We have Carhenge! ... out in the middle of nowhere. And Chimney Rock! Which is eroding down as we sit here... and also in the middle of nowhere. And, y'know... other things.
I just can't wait for States like Kentucky & West Virginia. And parts of Pennsylvania, the Appalachian. I've been there multiple times and those places are so pretty. I know that the SCS mappers will be able to nail those mountains. Promods is working on British Columbia; Canada. Something to look forward to. Glorious scenery irl. I'm already super happy with Oregon & Washington. Highly underrated by European travelers.
21:25 "Reasonably quick car"... That was a Dodge Charger! Most state police, a.k.a "Troopers", to my knowledge have upgraded to either the Ford Taurus, Explorer or Dodge Charger as their standard patrol cars. Some states with more mountainous terrain also use trucks now. They're also all built standard with performance level engines that aren't commercially sold. They're way above reasonably quick!
There is a weigh station on that route IRL: in the little unmarked town on that route called Monticello there's an intersection with US-491, and the weigh station is on that road just east of town. IRL there are signs at each entrance to town directing trucks to that scale: north, south, east, west, everybody has to scale when they're open. Curious to see if that will be added with Colorado!
I completely agree about driving at night. I used to drive a car hauler and preferred night. Plus not as many open weigh stations at night😂 I actually went through Moab and this area a lot.
No, not named for anything having to do with playing cards, Paul. Bluff, Utah is known for its abundance of small and large rock formations making hills and cliffs, or BLUFFS. EVERY time I hear the turn signal while driving at night, I always think about when I was a small 'Air Force Brat' riding in the car with Mom, Dad and Sis. Sandy & I would be in the back, and while SHE was snoozing away, I'd be lying down, eyes closed and listening to EVERYTHING I could hear, and as we were getting to where ever Dad was taking us to, the closer we got, the more turns, which meant more turn signals. And if it was a place we had been before, my game to play was guessing where we were turning at the next turn signal! ✨🤗✨ Life Is Good. Grab a piece of it, folks!!!
Hey Squirrel, the Midwest is actually not as boring as one would say it is (I live in it so I might see it differently) but during autumn the forests turn a beautiful orange
Squirrel, you don't need a retarder! Use the jake brake toggle mode and you can leave it on when using cruise control and it'll work in the same function as the retarder would.
Squirrel. Fuel economy is very useful as it saves you time, especially if you are hauling a time sensitive load. No stopping so often for fuel. 'Bluff' in US english also means cliff, or escarpment etc.
The pair of double yellow lines ( a double double -yellow) is leally eqivilent to a meridian, of course people do use it to extend turning lanes when traffic is heavy
In game torque is the only actual figure anyways. The horse power rating is only in the name of the engine, HP itself isn't actually modeled, only torque.
@@bobgoat5994 It is modeled, the more HP you have the faster your truck can go which can save you fuel at highway cruising speeds, for example, there's the Mercedes actors with 3000nm of torque which is the same amount of torque as a v8 man tgx but the man has more HP than the actros, after driving them both you'll notice no difference in acceleration and hill climbing performance but the man can definitely get up to highway speeds more easily than the actros
If you wanted to drive trains is Canada you could get the Oakville Subdivision. I’ve personally been on the fence of getting it because of the whole scandal thing that happened. But I would love to see some CalTrain, NEC, or Heavy Haul videos from you.
SQ, A bluff is a type of broad, rounded cliff. Most bluffs border a river, beach, or other coastal area. We have one here in South Africa. Durban to be exact. Now you know where the name comes from! :-)
I think what you should remember is that as we move east toward the Atlantic Coast of the USA, states will start to be released in bunches. There will be a New England DLC with, in my mind 6 states in it because they are all quite small (ME, VT, NH, MA, RI, and CT). There could also be a Virginia DLC with both Virginia and West Virginia. If SCS starts releasing map content in bunches, which I expect, it will take no longer than 5-10 years. And with the longevity of ETS2 and the emergence of the Sierra Nevada and PM Canada mod, SCS will be able to finish the job IMO.
You should get the Coast2Cost mod, it’s so much content that adds to the experience (It adds all the Us states on the mainland, different versions according to the map dlcs you have)
I can say this about driving here in America: a lot of what you see with the A.I. is what happens here, just in a shrunken time and distance scale in game. There is some crazy crap that happens in the big cities.
Hey squirrel, if you enable the jake brake with cruise control on, it will behave kind of like if the gearbox had a not super effective retarder. This is an essential part of driving my K100E, because as far as I can tell none of the gear boxes for that truck have a retarder.
@Squirrel - There will be two DLC's this year Idaho and then Colorado, plus on April 28th we'll be getting a new truck in ATS the Mack Anthem. I think that they'll do two states a year for now since the states are bigger in the west, but once they start getting into the smaller states I think that they'll start doing two or three states once the get Wyoming, Montana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota in game as state's begin to get smaller from there except for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Line colors in the US have yellow on the left and white on the right. Even on ramps and other one way bits. So if you ever see a yellow line on your right you know you're on the wrong side of the road / going the wrong direction. But of course, if you're going the wrong way on a ramp or road in the first place, then you probably won't be observant enough to notice that, or you'll at least notice another sign of it first.
Loving this trucking series happy for its return.. Hopefully we get two States this year with Idaho and Colorado hopefully after those States being released they will add Wyoming and Montana next year that would be epic.. Then the elephant in the room being Texas will follow those.. Nice video 👍🏻👌🏻
9:19 - looks like he's shoveling as you approach him, but he stops shoveling right as you get to him. 9:22 - looks like he dropped his shovel (maybe it's the end of his shift??) 9:52 - AGES ago, maybe 1960's, the U.S.A. used to always have these road markings: solid white on left and right edges of road, white dashed line in middle. Then, if it was a no passing zone on your side, it would be a solid yellow on your lane's side, right next to white dash. If both sides were no passing zone, in the middle of the road it would be solid yellow, then white dash, then another solid yellow. Then a while back they realized they could save $$$. They kept the white solid shoulder markings. But in center they dropped white dashed line. Instead, it is now a yellow dashed line (if BOTH sides are passing zones), or a yellow dash in center and yellow solid on your side if you were in no-passing zone, or two solid yellows if both sides were no passing zone. BTW - sometimes you will see white dashed on the shoulder instead of white solid - that means another lane (usually entrance ramp) is merging into your lane.
if you don't have a retarder you can press the toggle engine brake button and it will use the engine brake instead to slow the truck make sure to use toggle engine brake though as pressing the engine brake cancels crusise control
I have to agree with you Squirrel. I also do prefer driving at night as oppose to driving during the day. I find it there are less scumbag drivers at night plus, it is a lot more peaceful.
I just binged your series over a week and I'm enjoying it so keep going lol. I haven't taken the loan from the bank. You sound like you are regretting it now. Do you think I should?
It's a risk, but he was able to buy a number of trucks, a new garage, and hire 3 drivers with that money. Given that it takes a while for your drivers to start earning a lot of money, it's better to start as early as possible. Bank loans allow you to do that, but he's a proficient driver. I don't know how good of a driver you are, but it takes some getting used to
either way Torque is the only actual in game figure. The hp rating is only in the name, you can test this by editing the engine files, torque is the only one that will change anything.
@@bobgoat5994 From my testing I did in the game years ago, torque determined how much weight you can pull, but power determined how quickly you can get up to speed with the weight you can pull. So if you compared two engines with the same torque but different HP, both would be strong enough to pull the same X amount of weight but the one with more HP would have a quicker 0-60 time than the one with lower HP.
@@angrysocialjusticewarriorwhen i looked inside the engine files, HP was non-existent. Its only in the name of the engine and has no actual value to change.
Hey squirrel not sure if you done it on purpose but the last 2 trucking diaries were not added to ATS trucking diaries playlist and were added to your other ATS playlist.
Hey, I'm loving the return Squirrel. Would you consider posting these diaries in a wider format? I know 32:9 is probably ridiculous on YT, but maybe a good compromise would be 21:9? We'd love to see the hookups and certain maneuvers better, for you know...training:D
Yeah, but once you get closer to the East Coast the states start getting a lot smaller. I am pretty sure when they start making their way over there it will be in groups of states akin to the smaller European countries.
To think this was the final ATS / ETS2 video he's made since on youtube, how time moves on.
Squirrel, FYI on the use of the solid white line along US roads.: The solid white line on the right side is called the 'fog line' used to help cars stay in their lane during foggy conditions and help pedestrians stay off the road.
Wait, Americans require a line to know if they are walking on the road? Am I walking on the road? No white line, I'm okaaaaaaaaaaaay (splat).

Squirrel from what I have seen on steam advertisements SCS software is working on Idaho and Colorado right now
Another amazing video keep up the great work.
How do you zoom in & out on the dashboard sat nav? Hitting F5 works for the pop up one, but I cannot change the zoom on the built-in satnav screen?
What happened to your trucking Squirrel?
Squirrel: I'd love a transmission with a retarder on it...
Me: ......Engine Brake?
6:03 I think it’s because all the crazy drivers are not out and about
What's the torque on it? I thought that was more important for towing and hill climbs.
The 370 ISX Cummins is either 1300Ft-lbs or 1650 ft-lbs iirc
either way Torque is the only actual in game figure.
"There's no way to yourself down" yeah if only there was a Jake brake that you can use
Did drive 17 tons of meat in my own trailer to Iceland with a Scania with 250hp, now that was fun, and not very fast :)
well on the steam page there is already 2 you can add to the wishlist colorado and idaho
Hey, I'm loving the return Squirrel. Would you consider posting these diaries in a wider format? I know 32:9 is probably ridiculous on YT, but maybe a good compromise would be 21:9? We'd love to see the hookups and certain maneuvers better, for you know...training:D
Could you use the Sierra Nevada mod?
I took an urgent delivery, took a rest on the way, took an hour detour to check out Truckee, and still got there with over an hour to spare lol
Keep these up man!
what steering wheel do you use?
Yeah, but once you get closer to the East Coast the states start getting a lot smaller. I am pretty sure when they start making their way over there it will be in groups of states akin to the smaller European countries.
