I forgot to mention the mavic 3 has a variable mechanical aperture which is extremely helpful when filming or taking photos in dynamic lighting environments.
Great Video... I bought the air2s to sit next to my M2P.. However the M2P has spoiled me with the aperture being adjusted mid flight if necessary.. Had to return the Air2s and order the M3.. Just kinda bummed on the iso 400 locked in Log...Hoping some type of firmware can lower the iso to 100 when in log..
This is honestly the only thing that makes the Mavic 3 appealing to me, and it's frustrating that the cost for getting a variable aperture in a DJI drone has skyrocketed so much with its release and the discontinuation of the M2P.
Very underrated reviewer. Some people waste time and say the good vs bad without the detailed comparisons of what it can and can’t do. Keep ‘‘em coming
They just list specs and say "The Mavic 3 has this lens, compared to the Air 2S lens." And I'm like, yeah I saw that on Wikipedia too. What is real world difference? I need to know if it's worth the price increase.
I’m happy at least one UA-camr was honest about the air 2S. Well. Almost. The Air2s has fantastic sensors and tracks fantastically. Remember… months ago you posted videos glorifying the Air2s.. I believe most you tubers try to justify their purchase of the Mavic 3 by trying to blow away and trash talk their trusty old air 2S. You on the other hand…. I found to be more respectful. Great Video. Keep up the fantastic work. Cheers! I returned my Mavic3. Didn’t blow me away. (I’ll wait for the air3 ;))
@@floatingrabbit3556 lmao! That’s not what I meant. Now that you bring it up though… 8 months is considered “old” in the drone industry.. I’m guessing you “just” purchased an Air2s?! Lol
@@StefanMailey Nopr had mine since launch day. Those thinking anything is old just doesn't see any value in their item anymore and I can't blame them. And the "drone industry" is just a figurative thing. Just becuase something "new" is released doesn't make what was already there all of a sudden obsolete. These things are all just tools, new or old what matters is what they can do for you while you still own them. To me obsoletion means the devices no longer supported by the company itself so much that it can't be used any more and you can't find part la to repair it. Until that happens, that device is of value to someone out there.
Hello Jake, Excellent comparison of the Mavic 3 vs. Air 2S. I appreciate your real-life testing of both these drones and in some of the hostile conditions too. Thank you for your honest and balanced comparison of these two drones. Very Well Done!
Subbed great vid! I bought the air2s. I have absolutely fallen in love with photography again. I work in construction and found its even great for inspecting roofs, site plans ect. It's not much more difficult to travel with than my mini is
Hi Jake, thanks for a great comparison. I think for me, the M3 is too steep a climb in price for the benefits it gives versus my Air2. Also, the M3's picture quality isn't a quantum leap over the Air2S, at least to my eyes, and also for what I do as a hobbyist (but I acknowledge that the professional will view this differently). Also, the point you made about relative portability is an important one too, especially for hobbyists, and if they like to travel with their drones. Thanks again for great content, and keep them coming! Cheers, mate!
You're spot on. The Mavic 3 is definitely the better drone, but not better enough to justify the price jump. I fly both, the mavic for work and the air 2s for personal work. I have no plans to upgrade my personal drone. I LOVE the air 2s. That said, I love the Mavic 3's obstacle avoidance more. In my work I film in tricky situations and while the obstacle avoidance can be a hassle at times, it's saved my insurance company from having a melt down on multiple occassions. Haha.
Thanks, Jake. I'm an Air 2S owner and I have to walk 90 minutes to the one local spot where I can freely fly without interruption, or concern about unwanted attention from other people. However, that convertible carry bag/back-pack for the Mavic 3 might help a lot with that limitation. A number of YT drone reviewers have had crashes, or at least incidents, with the obstacle avoidance: it still doesn't detect thin & non-reflective twigs/branches and the gimbal seems more fragile (due to camera weight?). The Air 2S' obstacle avoidance does feel like it is in two minds, before grudgingly sliding past you. I've seen tests of the Beta Active Track on the 3 and it appears to work well tracking a person, but needs some fine tuning following vehicles (it swings about more than you'd like at times).
yeah unfortunately not even the Skydio 2 OA will avoid small wires and branches and with the gimbal design to keep it level during fast forward flight it needs to be further forward and thus it makes it very susceptible to crashes
in all fairness - a number of YT drone reviewers are doing stuff that will result in crashes to prove points.. optical obstacle avoidance also dont really like car windows. but that don't mean you have to keep pushing into the car window. *im saying that as somebody who have flown drones for a good while..
Most helpful youtube video I've seen. Been researching these for weeks and this was by far the most helpful resource I have found! Thank you for your insight!
Since flying drones is a part of my photography business, I always need to carry a backup. A good backup is a drone with compatible accessories. Since the Mavic 3 isn't compatible with any other drone, two drones with 4 batteries and 2 controllers will set me back $5,200. If I buy an Air 2S and an Air 2 as backup, both as Fly More with a total of 6 batteries, It's $2,250. That makes the Mavic 3 130% more expensive. If I want a Smart Controller, the Air 2 price increases to $2,750, while the Mavic 3 package goes up to $6,400, making the gap even bigger. Considering the fact that the Air 2S was considered the "bee's knees" of drone photography as little as 7 months ago, the premium price of the Mavic 3 seems rather rich to me. Is the Mavic 3 a more "professional" tool? Time will show. If the next generation, the Mavic 4, uses batteries and controllers that are compatible with this one, that will help. If DJI yet again chooses to make the next generation totally incompatible with the previous, it's just another expensive hi-tech toy.
Dude this tech is rapidly evolving and getter better in every aspect so fast, Just use what you have now and analyze how the market goes in 2 years, chances are the equipment will still pretty much suffice for 90% of the work you do.
I have a mavic pro at these prices I will hold on to it as long as possible. If and when I must replace it I will go with the air 2s with a smart controller.
I like how you break each drone down and give a honest, COLD weather application! I live in northern Minnesota so I find these videos to be way more useful than someone in Texas or Florida for myself.
At 8:21 the reason it was avoiding you so slow is that when you are in 4k60 and 5K it will not avoid, it will avoid very slowly. But in 30 FPS and 4k or lower It will avoid you, Great video as well! Thanks for covering all the details. Happy flying!
I have both drones. I can't really tell much difference in image quality, especially on my phone. I can tell when I see images side by side, but that's about it. For me, the longer flight time and better wind resistance mean a lot to me. I do a lot of sunrise and sunset shots, I love getting above low clouds and the Air2s often struggles in the wind. I also find that longer hyperlapses are too much for the battery, especially if I misjudge the timing of the sunrise. Of course it helps that the Mavic 3 is at least marginally better in every aspect. If I had switched brands and had to give up Mastershots or something like that, I could not have justified the cost
I like to say thanks again for the review, I ended up buying the Air 2s base on this videos comparison, and watching your past Air 2s review. Keep up the great videos!!
Regarding the price you can mention also that the care refresh of the Mavic 3 nearly double the price of the care refresh for the air 2S and in my opinion it’s a must have for an expensive drone like this mavic 3 and specifically after we have seen many crashes already 🙄 great comparison video btw and thanks
So I pretty much watch your videos in awe. They make me feel like I've never been anywhere beautiful in my life. Seriously your shots in Alaska make me want to vacation there and I don't like cold weather for more than a day or two. I was a photographer/videographer for 6 years and I've shot nationally advertised commercials. Currently I'm a contractor and frankly I am a 29 year old millionaire looking at getting my first drone basically because I watch your videos. Really thinking about a Mavic 3 fly more or possibly cine setup. To be honest, if my wife spends $1500 I won't even notice it. Cine is nice because all I use is apple and I like pro res format, that said, the only reason I don't know about the air 2s is because I plan on moving/retiring to Florida shortly and I want the drone to be able to track me while in my boat, and I've heard the mavic just does way better with tracking. Do either of them track at high speed? Or is boat tracking exclusively for manual control? Please keep making videos. I plan to subscribe to your patron as well as your UA-cam. You're great dude.
Thanks a lot dude! I really appreciate it. For you I would go with the mavic 3 cine. It’s my go to drone for so much now and with the improvements made recently the telephoto camera is awesome as well I did a whole video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/Fl4Il-8zsQM/v-deo.html
Excellent comparison, just reinforced me ordering the Mavic 3 Fly More. I just hope my RC Pro gets here soon so I can take advantage of the better controls and range. The difference in low light video and photos is quite large (and expected based on sensor size) and that is important to me. I am really interested to see how the tracking and obstacle avoidance work after the January update… could make this the only drone people need in their fleet.
Actually, when shooting in low light, you definitely WANT to shoot in D Log. This is because the much flatter profile allows for the capture and retention of a greater amount of dynamic range, which can help you pull more of the shadows out of a dark scene. When you let the camera handle the same situation in auto, it can have a tendency to crush the shadows and blacks, and you don’t have any room to recover something that’s just not there.
@@JakeSloan sure, but that’s a limitation of the sensor and the range at which ISO is effective without introducing too much noise. Unfortunately when it comes to drones, some concessions must be made, even on the high end models. Sensor size is certainly a part of that, and regardless of colour profile, I feel like it’s impractical to expect great low light performance from any drone, considering 4/3 is about as big as it gets for consumer models. When compared to DSLRs and mirrorless systems, that’s a lot smaller than full frame, and even APS-c sensors. I’d still go for the higher D range and try to find some extra light where I could.
A great comparison review and just what I was looking for. I must say that I had to watch it twice because the breathtakingly stunning landscape in Alaska (that you record so well) is so distracting that I don’t hear your words on the first pass! And maybe I actually missed it, but no mention of fixed vs variable aperture?
Haha…there was too much to cover here! Again, a great review and it helped me decide which direction I’m going to go with my next drone. I’m still a novice, having only been learning to fly with a DJI Spark up until now. I’m ready to step up, but the Mavic 3 is a little too pricey and I’m sure the 1” sensor of the Air 2s will impress me enough after experiencing the smaller 1/2.3” sensor of the Spark.
Great video, well put together. Keep up this great content! Just picked up the (Mavic 3 Cine) a few days ago. Loving the results so far! Just waiting for the new firmware update! Keep up the great work!
Drone cameras have come so far, in good lighting you can't even tell the difference between the air 2, 2s and the 3. This just goes to show, its the person behind the lens and not the camera itself. At the end of the day, you can't make fillet minion out of ground beef. If you can afford the 3, great but if you cant, just get better at your craft with what you have!! I hope fpv follows suit! Keep up the great work.
best comment i will read anywhere on youtube of the day. The guy with a smartphone can have 10 million subs vs the guy with 10k subs and 50k in camera gear i see this every single day. Quality of content of quality vs image any day of the week.
@@ademite I work for a company that literally has taught me how to appreciate how to use gear as tools and not to chase tech. Too many UA-camrs push hard for tech that only shows miniscule increments of improvement. Then as you said, there are folks who shoot only ok iphones and GoPro's with tons of subs/views. It's not production quality over quantity, it's always story that is king!
An excellent review as always Jake, no matter of what you reviewing. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos with sensible thoughts and recommendations, I'll stick to my Air 2S. Very well done and many greetings from a rainy Thailand 👍🏻🙏🏻🇸🇪
Hey Jake. I just discovered that the Air 2s APAS feature does not fully function in 5.4k resolution. When you put it in 4k 30fps the APAS system works fantastic and dodges and weaves obstacles as it should. The 5.4k version will stop and very slowly moves around the obstacle as you demonstrated.
I already have the A2. I just bought the M3 with RC controller over doing the combo you did, simply because the A2S with pro was only $400 less than the M3 with RC, so I went with the better drone and not the better controller
I was very close to getting the DJI Air 2 S Combo - but thought I might regret NOT getting the Mavic 3, So I eventually went for the Mavic 3 Combo. I should get it by the end of this week. Managed to get U$150 off it too which was a bonus. I hope I made the right decision!
@@ddtlaw I live in Australia and the price here is ridiculous- so I simply asked for a better price and they dropped the price without hesitation. I always asked when buying anything.
I have an Air 2S and couldn't be more happy with the quality of the images and video. Yes I see the mavic 3 is better but anyway the release of the next iteration of drones is allready round the corner. Only think I wish DJI would do is make the Air 2S a CX Label for C1 category (I live in Europe).
One advantage I liked about Air2s is it holds my old batteries (which I have 3 of). My last drone (Mavic Air 2) fell in the Sea and I was gutted, looking at this review the Air2s for me personally seems a great replacement. Thanks for the video
Thank you for putting out this type of comparison content - it’s very helpful! Are you still planning on putting out a video comparing the M3 vs the Skydio? I plan on using a drone to both follow me, but also want to get cinematic content. Specifically I want to slow the footage down and the 120 FPS with the M3 is very enticing. Conversely, the autonomous, beacon tracking of the Skydio is also very appealing for my needs - not sold on the M3 active-track, at least over the capabilities of the Skydio beacon. Thanks again, new subscriber here.
The range test actually would’ve been really nice. It sucks you live in Alaska and still legally can’t do that. A lot of us though, travel outside the United States where laws are less insane. So, the range would’ve been nice to know.
true. I know from past experience with the mavic 2 pro that the range will go for more than 4 miles pretty easily if the line of sight is clear of obstacles
@@JakeSloan My experience with the Mavic 1 is it can go about 6 miles. That's in Thailand above jungle and over mountains. So, you can probably go further than that :)
Thank you Jake for this complete comparative between these greats drones!👌👏👏👏 The Mavic 3 is amazing in all aspect, the air 2S is the best choice cost benefit but if any people have the money to buy the Mavic 3 will be a great experience fly this fantastic drone!!!👍
Thanks, great comparison. I think based on this, weighing up the price, etc, the Air 2S would be the best option for my use case. If they had brought out a Mini 3 with Active Track I’d have gone for that but it does not seen that DJI are.
I know I'm late to the video, but I really appreciate such a cogent analysis of these two drones. Your thoughts are presented convincingly with excellent examples to support your claims. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
I know you put this out a while ago. I have had a Mavic Air for a couple years now. I do videos for my own youtube channel but also do photos and videos for real estate. I want to upgrade and was looking at these two. Great comparison. My clients really like the pictures and videos I put together for them with my original Air so I'm sure the Air2s will do even better with the upgrades. Love that the fly more kit comes with ND filters. Thanks again for the video.
Damn, this is what I had been waiting for. Detailed side by side image comparison. Which place is this in Alaska? It looks beautiful...I want to visit there if possible
I like the noise of the Mavic 3. I think the Mavic 3 is more of a want for me than a need at the moment. I currently have too many drones with an Inspire both the Pro2 and 2 Zoom, the Air 2s, a Mini2 and an assortment of Phantoms. The Air 2s and Mini2 are the 2 birds that travel with me in my daily shooting. You also have a typo in your copy above "Mavic 3 or the Air 3s"
Hi Jake, really love this video! Great job! I like how objective you are in your analysis. Quick one though, do you have a video on youtube video tools and accessories. I ask cos your video quality is off the chain. I would like to see a video on getting the right camera, background lights, microphone ... the works. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Honestly, even if you have deep pockets, I don’t really see much of a reason to justify the purchase of the Mavic 3, but to each it’s own. I still get wonderful results for my work on the Magic air2S, and all of my clients just care that they get high quality results from me, which they do, so I’ll wait for the Mavic 3S or whatever lol, great video.
@@clashcrash6981 I wouldn't doubt it. Every year it's something new, even if it's just a few pixels better, they want YOUR money. Give it 12 months or so, and you'll see everyone praise it too lol.
Love this real review. Hate spec sheet comparisons from so many others. I got the Air 2S because I came from mini 1 and the Air 2S seems worth the 3x price increase. But in my situation, the Mavic 3 is not worth the 2x price of the Air 2S.
That's a slightly detuned interval of a perfect 4th. Lol I don't know why I noticed that. 2:00 Why does it seem that the ISO options are at first glance "worse" on the M3 in D-LOG? 3:30 Great comparison, Jake.
Great comparison. I have both drones and like both for what they can do. might end up selling the AIr2s once the M3 new update is released. but might keep it as well. Still deciding 🤔
This is just the comparison I was looking for, good stuff as always Jake! I'm so proud of myself for coughing up a couple hundred extra for the Air2s over the Air2 for future proofing. At the hobby level, I'd have to master video editing far beyond the level I'm at or ever care to be in order to get any benefit out of the M3. Thanks!
Great review thanks for the time. Just for fun we picked up an Air to 2 for a cruise, using your reviews, the Inspire we normally use is way to big for travel. That Air 2 S can keep up with a ship and land on the deck. (special thanks to capt Mark) anyway looking at the Mavic. wondering if it's too big. Your reviews help a ton. the commercial we filmed using the Air 2 had no complaints. The passengers enjoyed the cruise ships landings, very much.
Thank you, Jake. Another well founded reason to buy the Air 2S over the M3. I lost my beloved Mavic 2 Pro a year ago to a treacherous branch over water and have been mulling about the replacement since. The M3 has better obstacle avoidance and image quality, but at the end of the day, it is way too expensive for an amateur like me. My grievance nowadays regarding drones is that we are outcasts. The sign at Iguazu Falls National Park, here in Argentina, forbidding drone flying was bigger than the one asking people to look after children for deadly falls, alligators and kidnappings! Anyway, waiting for delivery of my new Air 2S and hoping to better flying!
I left my old Mavic with my team in India and bought a air2s. It ended up in the bottoms of a lake this weekend! User error. Man I have flown a lot of drones but mistakes happen. So I was trying to decide if I should just get another one since I have the package with the pro controller, bag, extra batteries, etc that way I will be able to use all my accessories or just get the new mavic. I will be getting another air2s. Thanks for the fair review.
Thank you for the comparing the two of DJI's best new drones. I have the Air 2 and about to buy the Air 2s just because it makes sense for my type of use. I believe the considerable upgrades to the Air 2 is worth it. Thanks for sharing.
Any regrets on the Air 2s? I too own the MA2 but unfortunately the remote isn't working. I really have been impressed with the MA2 but due have found it very difficult to find a new remote. The Air 2s would be the better buy financially. Interested to know if you're really happy with the purchase
I fly a Mavic 3 for work and own an Air 2s for my side hustle. Both are just incredible. After flying both extensively, at least for the kind of stuff I film, I haven't been able to justify upgrading to the mavic 3 for my personal drone. The Mavic 3 is better..... but not THAT much better, at least not enough to justify an extra $1,600 bucks (for the fly more combo). If you are looking to buy one or the other, you just have to be honest with yourself about what you plan on using it for. If you aren't shooting cinema or high end commerical production, save the cash and get the air 2s. You won't be disappointed. My day job I shoot documentary, corporate and tourism videos, so the mavic makes sense. For my side hustle I shoot real estate and special events. The Air 2s has never failed to impress. I also sell stock video and photos on several stock websites. I use the air 2s and do pretty well on those sites.
Hi Jake, great videos. As someone new to shooting video, your channel is simply a godsend so I just subbed. I do have a question about the specific audio track used in this video. I know you use Artlist, but could you kindly point me in the direction of the track or the composer? Thanks and cheers from Denmark.
I do wish i had waited for the Mavic 3 release instead of buying the 2s 7 months ago but I’m not going to spend all that money to upgrade at this point. Guess I’ll be waiting for the Mavic 4 (maybe the next iteration of the 3, if there is one)
Hi Jake! Thanks for your har work on these amazing videos. Do you ever fly your drones in the snow? I live in Michigan and we just had a snow storm and I was debating on getting some footage.
@@JakeSloan I decided to hold off being that it is super wet snow. Definitely not the big pretty snowflakes kind of snow. Thanks for taking the time to respond to me Jake! Love your work you are absolutely an inspiration to me. Thank you kind sir! 🙏❤️🤗
Hi Jake! As always a very nice video. Loved the footage and I have to ask how do you expose your D-Log footage? Do you expose on the right or do you tend to underexpose and later on post you fix it?
I tend to expose so it looks the way I want as I am shooting but D-log does give you a fair amount of room to adjust in post. I generally just try and protect my highlights from over exposure so I suppose I do expose slightly to the right lol
I guess it comes down to cost. Are the differences worth your cash? Is the M3 even within your budget? I know for me it is so far outside my budget that I never really even considered it. I also don't care for geofencing. That is one major sticking point I have with DJI.
@@JakeSloan DJI is a market leader for a reason. I am torn between an Air 2S and an Evo Lite / Lite +. Both looks like really solid choices. The Air 2S has been in the wild as it were a little more. I honestly can't wait for a few more patching cycles and then really see where the major players land in regards to their platforms. It is going to be an interesting year for sure.
I got the air 2, she is way bigger than the air 1 which i miss because that one i just threw in my pocket and had it with me everywhere. The air2 i have to plan a trip specifically for it. The mavic 3 while it shoots the best is not practical at all if you are just doing this for fun and not in a professional environment such as submitting videos or photos to 3rd party in which 90% of the community does it for fun or youtube shenanigans. What i would want is the mini 3 to have 10-bit color and a 1" sensor. That form factor is the best all around, earlier iterations wind would push the small drone a lot that's not the case so much anymore. You try traveling all the time with camera's lens gear. Backpack starts to get real real heavy. it comes down to do you want something smaller able to take more places with you i do say more places because airlines restrict how many batteries you can carry Mavic 3 gets restricted heavily. Air2/2s airlines dont bat an eye because its under their specification. These are all factors no utuber's mention, so thanks for mentioning.
I agree! The air 2 to air 2s doesn’t really make sense. In your case you would see and benefit to the mavic 3 in the conditions you mention like higher winds and better tracking with better obstacle avoidance.
Great comparison Jake, the Mini2 is fine for my needs right now. Oh btw my original Mavic Air in sport mode topped out at 46mph, had to look at the ground though. 😆
@JakeSloan Thank you so much for this content. As a complete noobie in the HUGE realms of photography and videography your content is extremely well done and polished. You are able to breakdown fairly complicated product information and how that applies to the user in the field in a very digestible way. Content creation in my experience can be a thankless job at times, but your channel has been a great resource and helped me navigate through the big worlds of tech and photo/videography with a bit more confidence and for that I would like to say "Thank you." Keep crushin it... - Dan
The Mavic 3 classic just came out. I'm debating "upgrading" my air 2s. We are at the point where APSC (Micro 4/3) is in a consumer grade drone. However, I think the better upgrade is the Mini 2 to the Mini 3. That vertical camera position is 👍. I'm holding off for now on everything. I firmly believe the Air 3 (coming eventually) will have a micro 4/3 sensor and it will be able to do vertical. That's the hope. It won't be a Hasselblad sensor but they actually don't make their own sensors that size anyways. It's a Panasonic sensor.
Hey Jake! good comparison. What do you think is next for the Air 2s? (if anything) Do you think DJI will make any changes or improvements, like better obstacle avoidance or tracking or ?? Maybe they just make an Air 3? Im just a hobbyist, the Mavic 3 is outta my realm.
I would heartily recommend anyone looking at DJI drones, to spend the extra on the fly more combo. Whilst battery life is good on their drones, you will still find your flight time over too soon!
Very good job Jake. If there isn't a lot of wind and the light is pretty good I like to fly the Mini 2! Amazing tech. It would be interesting to see a comparison of noise with the "equivalent" ISO based on sensor size. Good job...
Great stuff Jake. I would have gotten the Air2s but the variable aperture is a must-have for me. Got my Mavic 3 and I am disappointed that I can't do a hyper-lapse yet. Missing some of the opportunities that this freezing fog is giving us.
Excellent comparison review, Jake, thank you! The Mavic 3 is a great quad, enjoy it! I would by far have preferred that the Mavic 3 had not a dual, but a single 4/3" camera, which would have made it less expensive and lighter, to fly even longer. So for the moment, I prefer waiting for the Mavic 3 next iteration, or for the next iteration of the AIr 2S to an Air 2S Pro or Air 3S with variable aperture. In the meantime, I will continue flying the Air 2S, and also upgrade my PC when Apple introduces their M2 Chip in April next year.
Great review, very real world and I think this is what most folks want! No one seems to mention how high the Mavic 3 or Air 2S can fly. How high can they fly and get footage? Thanks again for you very well done review. Tom
I agree with everything you said in this video. I do l want that Mavic 3 but in my opinion it is not $1700 better. I currently have the Mini 1 for over a year now. I got very good at flying a drone and learned with the mini 1. Now I want a better one and I am leaning towards the Air 2S. $1300 for the fly more combo Air 2S vs $3000 for the Mavic 3 seems like a better bargain.
Great comparison, thank you!!... Now my question is.... if you have a Mavic Air 2, how much better is the Air 2s, and would you recommend making that upgrade? ... I do agree that the difference in the 3 over the 2s...not TWICE as good, like the price is twice a much. If you did a comparison video between the 2 and 2s, please let me know and I'll watch it. I'm just trying to figure out if I should upgrade or not.
I forgot to mention the mavic 3 has a variable mechanical aperture which is extremely helpful when filming or taking photos in dynamic lighting environments.

Thank you Steve!
Subbed great vid! I bought the air2s. I have absolutely fallen in love with photography again. I work in construction and found its even great for inspecting roofs, site plans ect. It's not much more difficult to travel with than my mini is
Nice!!
Cheers, mate!
thank you so much!
Thank you for your insight!
wow so glad to hear it!!
I agree and you make some excellent points! I think the Air 2s is a perfectly capable drone still and frankly a much better value
@@aarontrailcontractinginc7058 If you do any photography camera of original Mavic Pro is ancient in comparison and completely curb stomped by Air 2S.
So the air 2s is about the best bang for buck? I bet the air 3s will be pricey
Thank you for your very-easy-to-understand comparison. Then my decision is to buy Air 2S. Btw your studio lighting is awesome!
You're welcome! Im glad it helped you!!
@@JakeSloan thanks for reply. I appreciate it and waiting for your next video
I like how you break each drone down and give a honest, COLD weather application! I live in northern Minnesota so I find these videos to be way more useful than someone in Texas or Florida for myself.
Thanks!
At 8:21 the reason it was avoiding you so slow is that when you are in 4k60 and 5K it will not avoid, it will avoid very slowly. But in 30 FPS and 4k or lower It will avoid you, Great video as well! Thanks for covering all the details. Happy flying!
Interesting I wasn’t filming at the time just flying but interesting none the less!
@@JakeSloan Amazing video by the way, I learned a lot more about the Mavic 3 than I had known before. Thank you 👍
So glad to hear it thanks!!
If I had switched brands and had to give up Mastershots or something like that, I could not have justified the cost
agreed!
I like to say thanks again for the review, I ended up buying the Air 2s base on this videos comparison, and watching your past Air 2s review. Keep up the great videos!!
Fantastic glad to hear it!
That’s a great point! Cheers
Jake your work is some of the best I've seen. Keep it up! I have a Mavic 3 and love it.
Thank you so much!
Agreed!!
Another channel confirmed other controllers will not work with the Mavic 3
@@dgrolfe Are you referring to the DJI Smart Controller?
Great video, and subscribed. That piece of lint on your sweater was making my OCD act up.
Rofl. I was so ticked off when I saw that after filming it all!!
Hi jake, really appreciate your vid.
Im already purchase my air 2s after watch your video
fantastic
Actually, when shooting in low light, you definitely WANT to shoot in D Log. This is because the much flatter profile allows for the capture and retention of a greater amount of dynamic range, which can help you pull more of the shadows out of a dark scene. When you let the camera handle the same situation in auto, it can have a tendency to crush the shadows and blacks, and you don’t have any room to recover something that’s just not there.
to a point yes but then it really falls apart in the upper iso ranges
I think I forgot lol!! That is a big plus to the mavic 3 though
We have often run out of light taking pictures/footage of a project on completion day. The small difference in the 2 and 3 for us is amazing!
Agreed!!
Great video, well put together. Keep up this great content! Just picked up the (Mavic 3 Cine) a few days ago. Loving the results so far! Just waiting for the new firmware update! Keep up the great work!
The Mavic Cine is a BEAST!!! I can’t wait for the firmware update either
Best comparison by far and I have watched many. Great video!!
Wow thank you very much!
Agreed 100%!!!
best comment i will read anywhere on youtube of the day.
Jake outstanding comparison broski 🤘🏻absolutely the Air2S is still a workhorse. I love mine

An excellent review as always Jake, no matter of what you reviewing. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos with sensible thoughts and recommendations, I'll stick to my Air 2S. Very well done and many greetings from a rainy Thailand 👍🏻🙏🏻🇸🇪
Thank you very much!
Hey Jake. I just discovered that the Air 2s APAS feature does not fully function in 5.4k resolution. When you put it in 4k 30fps the APAS system works fantastic and dodges and weaves obstacles as it should. The 5.4k version will stop and very slowly moves around the obstacle as you demonstrated.
yes I found this out as well after this video
You make a compelling case for which sort pilot may want either machine - watched a few of your vids and very professional, wasting no time - subbed.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this video, this is the best review, couldn’t decide which one I should buy and finally I got all answers. I really appreciate!!!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for making this video, Jake. Very helpful. Have a nice day!
Thanks you too!!
Great video, Jake. And because of it, I got the Air 2S Fly More combo but the RC Pro remote. Not regretting it (yet).
Fantastic combo!!
You won’t be disappointed mark!
How did you get the discount?
@@ddtlaw I live in Australia and the price here is ridiculous- so I simply asked for a better price and they dropped the price without hesitation. I always asked when buying anything.
Very Happy with my Air2S, the only time I have problems with it is in strong winds.
Yep!
The air 2s is still fantastic!
One advantage I liked about Air2s is it holds my old batteries (which I have 3 of). My last drone (Mavic Air 2) fell in the Sea and I was gutted, looking at this review the Air2s for me personally seems a great replacement. Thanks for the video
you're welcome!
thanks.. great comparison and very helpful. i was on the fence between these two and pretty sure I'm going with the Air 2s Combo. thanks.
Thanks!
I am Michael, now that tracking firmware has been released and quick shots I am working on that video! thanks for subscribing!!
@@JakeSloan awesome - looking forward to it!
Thank you Jake for this complete comparative between these greats drones!👌👏👏👏
The Mavic 3 is amazing in all aspect, the air 2S is the best choice cost benefit but if any people have the money to buy the Mavic 3 will be a great experience fly this fantastic drone!!!👍
agreed and thanks for the kind words!!
Thank you Jake ..We all know that already ....Mavic 3 is not worth it .... compare to the Air 2 S. Jake you are the best period !!
Thank you so much!
Thanks, great comparison. I think based on this, weighing up the price, etc, the Air 2S would be the best option for my use case. If they had brought out a Mini 3 with Active Track I’d have gone for that but it does not seen that DJI are.
agreed if the mini 3 has some sort of tracking and even just forward OA that will be amazing!
I have both and love the mavic 3 cine
Nice!!
Great work and thank you for your video, it was very detailed on both drones. Much appreciated.
Thanks!
I know I'm late to the video, but I really appreciate such a cogent analysis of these two drones. Your thoughts are presented convincingly with excellent examples to support your claims. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Damn, this is what I had been waiting for. Detailed side by side image comparison. Which place is this in Alaska? It looks beautiful...I want to visit there if possible
This is pretty much all shot near Cooper landing Alaska. Cheers
Fantastic comparisons was very helpful 💚
Thank you
The low light and image quality are amazing.
Agreed
I like the noise of the Mavic 3. I think the Mavic 3 is more of a want for me than a need at the moment. I currently have too many drones with an Inspire both the Pro2 and 2 Zoom, the Air 2s, a Mini2 and an assortment of Phantoms. The Air 2s and Mini2 are the 2 birds that travel with me in my daily shooting. You also have a typo in your copy above "Mavic 3 or the Air 3s"
oh thanks!! and I do agree!!
Hi Jake, really love this video! Great job! I like how objective you are in your analysis. Quick one though, do you have a video on youtube video tools and accessories. I ask cos your video quality is off the chain. I would like to see a video on getting the right camera, background lights, microphone ... the works. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
that kind of video is coming

Honestly, even if you have deep pockets, I don’t really see much of a reason to justify the purchase of the Mavic 3, but to each it’s own. I still get wonderful results for my work on the Magic air2S, and all of my clients just care that they get high quality results from me, which they do, so I’ll wait for the Mavic 3S or whatever lol, great video.
agreed! it is always the operator skills that are the most important!
It seems to me that we would see a mavic 3 “pro” next year. With 8k and new controller :)
Thanks a lot!
That's a slightly detuned interval of a perfect 4th. Lol I don't know why I noticed that. 2:00
Why does it seem that the ISO options are at first glance "worse" on the M3 in D-LOG? 3:30
Great comparison, Jake.
I think they did that to give you the best noise performance between the two native iso levels of the sensor
Great comparison. I have both drones and like both for what they can do. might end up selling the AIr2s once the M3 new update is released. but might keep it as well. Still deciding 🤔
lol I am kind of in the same boat
This is just the comparison I was looking for, good stuff as always Jake! I'm so proud of myself for coughing up a couple hundred extra for the Air2s over the Air2 for future proofing. At the hobby level, I'd have to master video editing far beyond the level I'm at or ever care to be in order to get any benefit out of the M3. Thanks!
Glad to hear it thanks!!
Fantastic!!!
Yeah it’s unfortunate how many places seek to outright ban drones when they can provide so much value and do a lot of good
Can you please make a video tutorial how to edit in Lightroom?
excellent suggestion!! I will try and put one together
Stunning Footage and very informative comparison with cameras which is what I was looking for 👌
Glad it was helpful!
You’re welcome!
Thank you for the comparing the two of DJI's best new drones. I have the Air 2 and about to buy the Air 2s just because it makes sense for my type of use. I believe the considerable upgrades to the Air 2 is worth it. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome
I use the air 2s and do pretty well on those sites.
agreed!
Awesome video! Then I was like wait that's Cooper Landing! Soldotna local here nice work!
I love Cooper Landing! Such a beautiful area! Thanks for the kind words and it’s always good to meet a fellow Alaskan here on the inter webs!!
Not knowing anything I purchased the Air 2 and was happy. I should have got the Air 2 s for my needs.
Oh dang
Hi Jake, great videos. As someone new to shooting video, your channel is simply a godsend so I just subbed. I do have a question about the specific audio track used in this video. I know you use Artlist, but could you kindly point me in the direction of the track or the composer? Thanks and cheers from Denmark.
Thank you! The song in this video is called "when the sunrise" by Slvan-Talmor and yes its from artist. Cheers from Alaska!!
I do wish i had waited for the Mavic 3 release instead of buying the 2s 7 months ago but I’m not going to spend all that money to upgrade at this point. Guess I’ll be waiting for the Mavic 4 (maybe the next iteration of the 3, if there is one)
The air 2s is still super solid and the one I take with me when I’m just going out to do stuff for myself
Thank you @Jake for this detailed comparison video 👍
You’re welcome
Hi Jake! Thanks for your har work on these amazing videos. Do you ever fly your drones in the snow? I live in Michigan and we just had a snow storm and I was debating on getting some footage.
I do a lot actually. So long as it isn’t super wet heavy snow where there is danger of icing it’s not a problem
@@JakeSloan I decided to hold off being that it is super wet snow. Definitely not the big pretty snowflakes kind of snow. Thanks for taking the time to respond to me Jake! Love your work you are absolutely an inspiration to me. Thank you kind sir! 🙏❤️🤗

You’re welcome!!
Brilliant video - and thank you for this … excellent comparison and just what I wanted to see.
Thanks glad to hear it!
Real talk: what gloves do you use to fly in the cold?
Lol whatever gloves I can find! Actually I use a pair of lightweight gloves from head and a pair of their heavyweight gloves as well
I guess it comes down to cost. Are the differences worth your cash? Is the M3 even within your budget? I know for me it is so far outside my budget that I never really even considered it.
I also don't care for geofencing. That is one major sticking point I have with DJI.
Agreed and that’s why I think for most the air 2s is the best overall choice.
Very good points!!
Great comparison Jake, the Mini2 is fine for my needs right now. Oh btw my original Mavic Air in sport mode topped out at 46mph, had to look at the ground though. 😆
Thanks Joe! lol
@JakeSloan Thank you so much for this content. As a complete noobie in the HUGE realms of photography and videography your content is extremely well done and polished. You are able to breakdown fairly complicated product information and how that applies to the user in the field in a very digestible way. Content creation in my experience can be a thankless job at times, but your channel has been a great resource and helped me navigate through the big worlds of tech and photo/videography with a bit more confidence and for that I would like to say "Thank you."
Keep crushin it...

thank you very much Dan!
Fair and informative review! Both are terrific, will just depend on budget and purpose for shooting
exactly right
The Mavic 3 classic just came out. It's a Panasonic sensor.
agreed and holding off for now is a great idea as I am sure DJI will release another Air series drone this year
Hey Jake! good comparison. What do you think is next for the Air 2s? (if anything) Do you think DJI will make any changes or improvements, like better obstacle avoidance or tracking or ?? Maybe they just make an Air 3? Im just a hobbyist, the Mavic 3 is outta my realm.
I think they will add better obstacle avoidance and improve the flight time in the next air series
@@JakeSloan I hope not, otherwise I'm going to get caught in an upgrade cycle with each new Air model.
typo in the video description*** thanks for the post!
Thanks!
I would heartily recommend anyone looking at DJI drones, to spend the extra on the fly more combo. Whilst battery life is good on their drones, you will still find your flight time over too soon!
I agree!!
8:25 The Air2S has a setting which allows it to bypass obsticals. It works really well.
Yes it does
Very good job Jake. If there isn't a lot of wind and the light is pretty good I like to fly the Mini 2! Amazing tech. It would be interesting to see a comparison of noise with the "equivalent" ISO based on sensor size. Good job...
agreed
Great stuff Jake. I would have gotten the Air2s but the variable aperture is a must-have for me. Got my Mavic 3 and I am disappointed that I can't do a hyper-lapse yet. Missing some of the opportunities that this freezing fog is giving us.
Thanks Mike! I have a Mavic 2 pro still if you want to borrow it to capture this frozen beauty around us!
@@JakeSloan Thanks, not really keen on flying someone else's drone. Thanks for the offer though.
In the meantime, I will continue flying the Air 2S, and also upgrade my PC when Apple introduces their M2 Chip in April next year.
thats an excellent plan! Thanks for the kind words
Thank you for the review👏🏽👏🏽very clear 👏🏽👏🏽cheers
Thanks Cheers!!
Might want to invest in a takeoff pad :-). Great footage!
I have one I just usually hand launch and hand catch 😜
I have a mini 2 l love it - hope they make a 3 and just add obs avoid and make sensor bigger a tad -
That would be awesome
Great review, very real world and I think this is what most folks want! No one seems to mention how high the Mavic 3 or Air 2S can fly. How high can they fly and get footage? Thanks again for you very well done review. Tom
They can fly pretty well up to 14,000-15,000 feet high higher than that and they start to struggle
Hi sir which one is the best DJI air 2s or Mavic 3 please asap I want to buy the best drone
Mavic 3 is best
Great comparison of these two drones, the new Mavic 3 is very impressive. And thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I agree with everything you said in this video. I do l want that Mavic 3 but in my opinion it is not $1700 better. I currently have the Mini 1 for over a year now. I got very good at flying a drone and learned with the mini 1. Now I want a better one and I am leaning towards the Air 2S. $1300 for the fly more combo Air 2S vs $3000 for the Mavic 3 seems like a better bargain.
agreed!
Thanks for the video:) i just bought the dji air2s for only 719 euro's
wow great deal!
I did! You can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/XiiEVgyqA3s/v-deo.html cheers!!
