Is discipleship Catholic?

  • In this Road To Emmaus episode, Dr. Hahn sits down with Fr. Jeff Kirby to discuss the idea of reclaiming an original Catholic practice: Discipleship.
Fr. Kirby addresses the misconception many modern Catholics have in thinking that Christian discipleship is a Protestant conception. As members of His Body, we have to reclaim discipleship and understand what it means to have an intimate relationship with the Lord.
Fr. Jeff Kirby is a Catholic priest from South Carolina and host of the daily show, Morning Offering. Fr. Kirby was also a spiritual director at our previous Priest Conference in Texas!

I miss Father Kirby's weekly bible study class on Wednesdays on UA-cam. I have found nothing anywhere that is even remotely equal to it. :( He was so in depth!

Love these guys...I watch Fr Kirbys sermons as much as I can; sometimes I get yelled at; but that’s ok...Been watching Dr Hahn forever it seems. This talk was great, two Dr's talking about the love they have for Jesus Christ and spreading the gospel. The thought came to me; it was like watching two buds having a chat...

I love all of Fr Kirby’s talks and programs….but, when he’s at Mass and stands at the microphone it’s like the Holy Spirit instantly goes into him and he speaks with such authority, fire and conviction. It reminds you of what is written about great preachers like St Dominic or St Anthony of Padua. It’s very obvious God is speaking thru Fr. Kirby. I know I must listen to him. Thank you God for Fr Kirby.

I'm a fan of both Dr. Scott Hahn and Father Kirby. I discovered Father Kirby's "Morning Offering" on the Good Catholic UA-cam channel a couple months ago and it has become a part of my mornings before work. I have also started watching his homilies. He is unapologetically truthful about what scripture teaches and I appreciate that so much.

Our Pastor has always spoken about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ - if we as Catholics don’t thirst for that, we are missing everything God has willed for our lives 😊🙏❤️

Father Kirby was integral in bringing me back to the faith. Why you ask...discipleship. Father Kirby actually does this and doesn't just talk and preach about it.

I'm forever grateful for Steve Wood taking time to talk to me over the phone after I listened to his first four pack of cassette tapes. My future Mother in Law somehow received the tapes around the time this Born Again Christian started dating her daughter 🤔
God had already told me that she would be my wife, and somehow I knew she was a Catholics, and I left Holy Mother Church back in my Campus Life Youth for Life times, and I wasn't looking to return. Ain't God Grand 👍🙏😘
Through the Wild Goose and Steve Wood, I came back home in about 1992ish.
I lived the Jesus Revolution movie in South Miami and saw everyone from Leonard Ravinhill and Derek Prince, to Bob Mumford preaching in Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove.
Pastor Steve Brown from Key Life Productions was my Pastor for years.
What a perfect radio voice and a good teacher.
But as my wife of over 32 years has been known to say, good Bible study, but it's not the Holy Mass. So off we went to Holy Mass.
And I can't thank Ya'll enough for your common sense sound Catholic teaching.
You've been a great part of our 32+ years together.
We give when we can because its what Jesus taught us to do.
Don't grow tired of doing good 👍🙏
    God Wins Biggly 🙏
    Viva Cristo Rey

Oh my gosh. I am a convert and I sound like that! I love it! I brought the strong spiritual relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit with me to the fullness of truth that is the Catholic Church. But we can learn something from Protestants.

I have often thought what they’re talking about is so correct!
The combination of the Protestant and Catholic. It’s all one big thing….
I’s really sad that we’re divided. I think this is a wonderful discussion!
I really think that it’s going to take an awful long time before it really comes together unfortunately.
But I will still do it ~ I try to combine the two I always have. But there’s always a pushback isn’t there?
Thank you both of you thank you thank you thank you.
That’s what I’ve been trying to do anyway. 🙏
Since our church and our leaders are falling apart in many cases, WE have to be the disciples.
We have to go out to others, we have to do this.
But we’re not being received very well.
Perhaps we should re-read acts of the apostles.
I’m not sure we are brave enough these days.
So let’s love, Jesus, at least try to get in love deeply with Jesus, and then it will come more naturally, even though we will still get pushback.

It IS one big thing! It’s called being a Christian! A follower of Jesus, The Word Who became flesh! I truly believe He does not see us by denomination- only believers and not-yet-believers! And as believers we are at different stages of growth. Let’s seek Him and let Him keep growing us! And thanks be to God our LORD Who came and suffered and died and rose for this once not-yet-believer!
And now, as He is, so now are we in this world. 😳 That means we should be desiring to grow and be led by Jesus, so we can go and make disciples (unless we already walk and talk just like Jesus).
LORD Jesus, thank You for being our Teacher! Please and thank You for Your Promise to lead us into all truth!!!!! Help us keep our eyes on You so that You can have Your way in our lives! Thank You, Jesus!!!!!

I'll tell ya one thing, many parishioners dont know how to tangibly do this, namely to go and live your life as Christ has intructed. They dont realize how they have the ability to be Christ to others. They hear it, but it doesn't connect. We have to show and tell them how to do so. Based on their gifts and personality it could be more prayer, seaking out deeper relationships with others, taking a friend to coffee, playing a sport, etc😊

The greatest way to evangelise is via the Legion of Mary🙏
This is Our Lady’s army set up in the aftermath of the Fatima apparition🙏
It’s over a 100 years old and is the largest Lay Apostolate in the Church🙏
There is no prayer group that can come near it! It started in Ireland with the incredible Servant of God Frank Duff and is now on every Continent🙏
If you want to fulfill your obligation to evangelise please consider joining or starting a new Presidium🙏
I am a 72 year old in Ireland and have been a member for nearly 8 years and it has been the greatest thing in my life going out 2 by 2 to spread the good news to the poor🙏
    Great interview🙏🇨🇮

Like brother Kirby would agree, discipleship not only pertains with Catholicism & Protestantism, but is Christian. If you've been justified by God's grace through Christ, then you begin the life of discipleship!

Love you both but don't understand why this kind of interview/discussion is being held inside a church/chapel - a place of prayer? I know you are talking about the faith and the Lord.... But this can be done elsewhere. St. Paul Center has done this before .....
You just said it Dr. Hanh - this is a sacred space for worship and prayer!!!!
