Thank you for pointing out that Livy’s perspective is critical because he gives us the perspective of an actual Rome writing about Roman history. I was in a college bookstore the other day and I spent some time looking through the classical history section…they had no ancient writers!! It was all modern perspectives on the past-it should be the opposite, don’t you think? Shouldn’t we read the writings of people that lived back then and maybe have a sprinkling of modern perspectives on history?? I mean read it all, but for a college bookstore to have no ancient writers…that was pretty disturbing to me.
