This is a perfect cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds! Absolutely recreated every note of all the instrumentation. Also tones were absolutely on point!
Thanks ! Learning the part really made me understand Paul's musical genius even more! I didn't think it was possible that I could have more admiration for him but I was wrong!
Believe me , I really appreciate your comment and compliment. There are times I doubt if I should be doing this because it sometimes feels there isn’t much interest in what I do. I am just starting to build a bigger audience and it’s taking a while to grow. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!
This is so good. Must be one of the best Beatles instrumental covers on youtube. Not only the sound of each instrument - but the feel and timing. Your are really in the pocket. I really want a Lowrey Heritage DSO-1. I saw a Lowrey for giveaway some time back 600 km away and the picture was bad. But I drowe all the way and picked it up. And then it was a TS88-R. Well, at least I got a Lowrey now. 🎹
There are certain songs that I definitely will because they present a challenge. I prefer to do snippets like I normally do to show that I can do it. This one was different because I have the DSO-1 organ, and I thought actually playing a tanpura would be fun! Thanks for watching! I really appreciate your support and comments on this channel since it started!
This recording is very close to the original version, congratulations! It even demystified some things I thought, about how the magic of this music is made to achieve the final result.
Upright piano, Notes D, A, D, A for what I call the piano smash part. I kept that on a separate track from the chorus piano part. Plugins in order redd51 , puigchild , J37 by Waves. Reverb on it was Abbey Road Chambers. By itself the piano smash part doesn't sound other worldly or anything. I think the drama it adds to the song is because it's played in the lower register. It kind of contrasts everything else in the arrangement. The piano part in the chorus is just eighth notes on the the three chords of the progression, same plugs used .
This is completely AWESOME! I clicked on this video not really expecting much but the first notes of the organ BLEW ME AWAY sounding just like the record. I can't wait to see more covers from you, I can see you rising to the top of the Beatles cover videos!
Absolutely Incredible Perry! Sounds exactly like the original! I’d love to hear a getting the sound on both parts for I want to hold your hand, and whether you think there is an organ! I think not!
@@perrystanleyNumber9I guess I’ve always just naturally assumed Fenders went with Leslies. Not just with George (including solo stuff like It Don’t Come Easy), but also Clapton in concert today. Pete Townshend used an SG Special with a Leslie on his solo song “Mary”, originally demoed for the Who’s Next album by The ‘Oo
Your attention to detail is amazing. Love it. Probably the best Beatles cover person on UA-cam. Have you ever considered installing a Rogers Swivomatic as Ringo did with his?
The kit I'm using is a 1964 Super Classic OBP just like Ringo's most used Beatle kit. I can play it fine, so modifying it with holes for a kit so rare and expensive wouldn't make sense to me. Now if I had a less rare and expensive kit I might think about it... but not this kit. It's like putting a bigsby on a real vintage guitar so it looks like a Beatle guitar. I get why some people would do it, but I'd be afraid of butchering a beautiful vintage guitar. The 64 casino in the video has a Selmer Bigsby, but I bought it like that. someone else did it. Same thing With a 1964 J160e that I have which is stripped and looks exactly like John's 64. It's a perfect job, but I didn't do it and would not. (But if someone else does it and I can purchase it , I will!) Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@perrystanleyNumber9 I completely understand. I made the conversion on my 65' kit that was made the same week Ringo's was. I was a bit nervous, but thought I have these kits because of Ringo, why not make it like Ringo's 🙂There are some nice pictures in Ringo's book "Beats and Threads" that helped me better place the mounting plate precisely like Ringo's was. My other kit I left the standard rail consolette. The bottom line, enjoy your instruments and recreating their music. I LOVE the Lowery you have as well. I hope you do some more reviews of your equipment. You have a very impressive collection! Thanks again for your hard work on these covers!
I'm pretty sure that the electric guitar on the album version was recorded with the Casino and not the Strat as some sources usually says, but nonetheless, in the rehearsals, John appears with his Casino, but i'm not that sure if he used it on the album version, as i can't hear any other electric guitar other than George's. Another myth is that Paul recorded the "Good Morning" solo on his Esquire, but also in the sessions for that particular song, he is seen with his Casino, while the pictures of him with the Esquire are from an earlier February or March 1967 session for the "Sgt. Pepper's" song.
I think Paul played the sgt pepper lead using the esquire , and I read it somewhere don’t remember where. John didn’t play guitar according to 3 books and the tracking sheets. He sang a guide vocal on the rhythm track and that was wiped for the tanpura. George did the j-160e on the rhythm track and the guitar with Leslie and without. There is one picture I recall where Paul seems to try both guitars the casino and the esquire. Don’t know the date . You are right about the many myths though. A lot of people think the Selmer can get really dirty tones. I have two and they are more like fender twins with more tone variants.
Nice touch with the right Lowery and the Tambura. I assume you know how to tune the jawari bridge to get a good buzz. I think your plucking style is spot on. I play mine with the neck straight up like a standup bass so it's balanced.
I am such a newbie with it but watched a lot of videos. Yes I set the threads on the bridge to get the most buzz. I still need more practice with the stroking the strings thing. It’s a really cool instrument and kind of ingenious with the fine tuning swans. Looking forward to using it some more and getting better with it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey Perry! Would you ever consider of doing a mono mix of this amazing recording? I know that you deliberately mixed this recording to match the record on the record. However, I feel that the original stereo mix on the record is…quite unbalanced shall we say?…between the left and right sides. Or even a possible alternative stereo mix of your recreation? Either way, is really something to be proud of!!!
would love to hear from you and Mike Sokil on Gear There and Everywhere about how you guys have your drums set up and what cymbals you use for different eras/songs and such!
@@perrystanleyNumber9Also, the Strat that John used was Rocky pre-painted as there was a shot of the Grimswood store sticker at the back of the headstock during the rehearsal. Therefore, Rocky didn’t exist during Pepper!
@@perrystanleyNumber9 Pictures sometimes do give some clues as for the instruments used but can also be misleading. That photo documented rehearsal session was held on 28 February but the leslie'd guitar overdub was done two days later, on 2 March. Therefore I find that photos to be far from the definitive answer. Anyway, congratulations! Great video!
@@onderov Point taken. I never thought it was definitive, but in my opinion very likely still because in the rehearsals he had the casino all night . They must have worked out the Leslie guitar part, because the session for the rhythm track the next day was George on the J-160e. Plus Ably house used a strat in their version and I wanted to make a different supposition. Also the Casinos were newer to them since they got them in 66 and the Strats were around since 65. Believe this is the first time I've seen anyone use a real tambura on a Beatles cover
Wondered what that instrument was 👍
But then a 57 on a snare😂
This is probably the most accurate cover I’ve ever heard of this song
This is spot on. If someone told me that this was a cover, I wouldn't believe it.
Wow! Thanks!
Finally, someone got the organ sound close to the original, I've always loved how dreamy it sounds.
Absolutely fantastic! Spot on in every way. Great playing!

Awesome cover, Perry! I always wondered whether George used his Strat or his Casino on this song.
I chose the casino because Henry Grossman's pictures of the rehearsal the night before show George with his Casino all night long.
