2 powerful guys with great skill and sportsmanship. Thanks for sharing your game with us gentlemen. Thanks TT for the upload! Looking forward to the next installment!!
Ok, I watched half of this Part 1. I’m focusing on Blue Shirt 51-yr old. Oh. I’m UTR 9.3, ranked #1 in my section in 55’s, like #56 in the US, and I used to be #1 in the 35’s , and #17 in the US 35’s, and I’m a career high performance USPTA Elite pro. Blue shirt has AWESOME, gorgeous modern forehand, semi-western grip, semi-open stance, modern footwork and stroke. Backhand drive is alright and the backhand slice is fantastic. Miss it long though if you’re gonna miss it. I wish it had a little less underspin though. You have so much, cause you’re in a strict continental grip that it causes you to take a big swing. But, it’s still really nice. Mine is none better. Long term goal: shift the grip a hair over toward the backhand side and it’ll be a little flatter and penetrate more. I do mine exactly like yours, and I’m trying to get it a little flatter. Your movement is good, your variety too. Your serve is very nice. But, a couple ways to improve it. Your take back is very Vic Braden-esque with a huge body turn and J toss. Your stance is very square. I wish you closed it a little bit it’s ok. All your weight goes on the front foot so i I I don’t get anything off the back foot push, lessening the upward and forward explosion into the kinetic chain. Try to plant a little right on the back foot. That’ll keep you from opening up too early. And the toss floats so far left that you open up your hips and shoulders too much. At contact, your head is really down off the ball. Try to keep a little sideways (45 deg.) and stay with the contact with your head up and both shoulders and your arm will accelerate and whip through. Having said that, you are a GOOD player, better than many 4.5’s. I like your style and your game. If you saw my game, on my channel, you’d see some areas in need of improvement too. Thanks for posting. It was fun.
It depends on goals too. This match was so entertaining that if I'm to guess they play like this every time, workout and tennis are checked. Beers are next...and food.
You can tell by the playing style these are consistent, rational, intelligent, well-grounded, sane players who have made it through a half century. They don't waste many shots.
Nice strokes! It's hard to stay flexible and fluid as you get older so I was pleasantly surprised to see so many great rally balls. Old man's slice was on point!
When Justin and I play usually our rallies are shorter. More first ball strikes. He had me much more on the defensive this match. His slice is excellent. What makes it even trickier is he drop shots off the same swing. You’ll see me stepping in looking forward it throughout the match.
Playing first strike tennis can be difficult though because you want to pull the trigger to get ahead in the rally. People tend to forget that neutral balls and finesse shots are part of it. I'm jealous of your courts as well...looks like a nice setup
This is like a lot of tournament matches I have played, where I won the match, even looks good on paper, like 6-2, 6-3 - and actually it feels like I lost because nothing was EVER certain, and always close, and I was being played hard by the opponent. Like I almost fell off some cliff, but grabbed hand handful of dirt, and an old rope just before I fell off and pulled myself up to safety.
Thank you for letting us know. We have some older matches to show with the previous angle, but new matches are showing more of the baseline. Essential Tennis suggested it to us and we think it works.
What a high quality set!! 50 y/o moving and serving well. Makes him very difficult to beat. Hotshot is just a very talented player. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
