Storage unit buying is the reason I even am successful on eBay you find out people buy a lot more than you would think and it teaches you what is really trash and how much people really care about their loved ones belongings after they pass sometimes it can be sad but it’s always an adventure this is higher minded treasurers. If you can source the crap you don't want ie washers & dryers - heavy furniture, etc., then you can win.
Congratulations on buying storage units 😊😊 back in the day, I would go buy and clean up garages and sheds for older people that can no longer do it 😊
I am learning so much from you and others that I will be expanding in a big way in 4 weeks.
As someone who has purchased thousands of storage units my best advice is don't waste your time attempting to squeeze every penny out of all the items. Don't even bother with the majority of items, 80-90% should be trash in a GOOD unit! Trying to store and sell things like furniture, dishes, common clothing, appliances, etc will just bog you down. Since you are rural and have trash dump sites that will help you tremendously. Do not overlook the value of scrap metals however. If you aren't familiar with the grading you really should learn them. The vast majority of units have at least $100 in old power cords, electric motors, junk appliances, etc and the best thing with the metal is they pay in CASH when you sell. Best of luck!

Very rare to find gold in units. I guess it all depends on how much 10 plus man hours are worth to you. I’ve bought a handful of units and it’s kind of like lottery tickets. The hits make you forget the previous loss of money and time. But for content it will be cool

My husband started buying units 11 years ago it's fun and very addictive lol in the past 6 years this business has definitely changed and not for the better please bid on what you can see in the units ( some people and facilities with stage units ) to drive price up. We occasionally buy units ,we sold our items on ebay,marketplace, and worked with a local auction house that sold the majority of our items. It's very fun just be careful! The problem in the storage auctions the program storage wars make it look so easy
@KTMCDO it's definitely not easy, also the former tenant has the right to pay even after the auction has ended,I've seen people drive 2 hours to facility only to find out it had been payed for, if there's a unit we want to purchase and it involves a road trip we look up fun things to do in the area in case that happens.

You Hate yard sales now you will be Having Yard sales. Sort the stuff and donate the junk without thinking you will get money for it some day or you will have piles of crap all over. The units are not anything like they were 5-10 years ago. I stopped and only buy at yard sales.
Kevin. I would love to do storage lockers. Unfortunately not having a vehicle makes that impossible. Being homeless for a year ruined my credit and no one will even speak to me. Still trying to recover but I can’t go anywhere.
I may have just realized something that may help eBay sellers make more sales. This isn''t proven, but I noticed it in the last few months. I had to make some purchases on Ebay (car brakes and a remote for a DVD/VCR). Very quickly after making the purchases I notice a pretty good bump in my listing impressions and listing page views. Maybe it is a coincidence, but my sales went up, and quite a lot more than the cost of my purchases. It is worth a shot. Maybe sellers can buy a few shipping supplies and test my theory out. No guarantees though.
Kevin I have saying you wanna be your friends that's alseller like you are Hey bad storage unit sounds good summer bad but if you'll sell The furniture and appliances and dishes you can make a lot of money but you have to be careful it pays to know a lot about paintings because some of them are worth a lot of money some glass is worth a lot of moneyou will usually make at least your money back sometimes you will make a lot more I am so glad that you have help Because your back will wear out fast just make sure you always wear gloves I pray that your adventure goes wonderful and you chose the right person to have God bless you and good luck
Great idea! Watched on TV yrs ago. So much fun! Lots of heavy lifting. But treasure hunting seems to be well worth it! Eat your Wheaties before you leave, bring food and water! Could donate left overs to thrift stores (bigger tax erite off?). Take pics when the Mrs opens things! Could get a money/gold sniffing dog!! 😂 looks like a few cents under $50/gram so $200. Great!
I started sourcing from units 5 years ago and have not stopped. "Garage Sales" are a must and a good dump/trash drop off routine. I have both and I have a 1/2 acre but no out buildings!! so I been working on infrastructure since the start. Sheds are full. Carport full. We full!

I never bought a storage unit myself, but I bought items off people that. buy storageAnd what kind of homes that came out of unit sometimes but there is one thing. nobody talk about is You never know. Who had it before what kind of homes that came out of This is just my opinion.Close down the door in the storage unit I would sit off a bug bomb before I start emptying out that way you not going to bring anything into your Area you going to store in that you don't want It might not be nothing wrong with the unit you buy but the unit next to it.
I did storage units for years. I was even on an episode of Storage Wars. Best advice for getting great prices on storage units is to bid on units when the weather is bad. I once got 6 storage units for one dollar each because it was snowing and I got a huge filled to the ceiling 20 by 30 feet unit for 10 dollars because it was a very hot summer weekend.
