11:22 Slight correction / omission: (Manual page 10) "If a Boat Space gets damaged or destroyed, all Crew Members that were on that Boat Space fall into the water." The shark does not have to fully destroy the tile in order to knock crew members into the water; he needs only damage it. Also, it would be helpful to clarify how the adjacent space rule works in the second act, as our group didn't understand it until having played the game several times, and from searching online it seems other people are equally confused. Each tile is divided into a boat space and a water space, with space borders being defined by a white line OR the edge of a tile. Any space that shares part of a line/edge with another space is considered adjacent. This is especially important as boat spaces become damaged or destroyed, because the adjancency of spaces (and therefore what can be targeted by the crew and shark) CHANGES as the round continues. Also also, this is a really fun game that anyone with at least 1 friend willing to play should own.
The video (a very good video) also made a mistake about the shark attacking the boat. It doesn't need to exceed the numbers (2 & 4), is has to roll equal or higher.
@@calebbischof3848 I own the game as well. Your reply has nothing to do with what I said. Your reply is about "MELEE WEAPON OR FIREARM WEAPON". I never mentioned that. I am talking about the Shark action "DAMAGE AND DESTROY", the shark attacking the boat. She is wrong @11:22. She said you need to exceed the number, you don't need to get more hits than the number.
I love this game, there's just one rule I'm not totally clear on. In Act 2, if a player can attack with a melee weapon from a space adjacent to the resurfacing space, and a player with a firearm can attack from even further away, why would anyone ever put themselves in a resurfacing space at all? Doesn't this make it almost impossible for the shark to ever get a hit on them until they've already destroyed most of the boat?
So, the water space and boat space of a tile are 2 different spaces, even though they’re on the same tile. When it says you can use a melee weapon from a space adjacent to a water space, it means the boat space on the same tile as the resurfacing zone, if that makes sense.
@@jonathanlane444 You can find AVP Second Edition at the moment on Miniature Market, Chronicle X is also starting to ship as well. I was thinking more of a hidden movement style game set in the first Predator film.
Got this the other day, a must have since Jaws is my all time favorite movie. While there's a little learning curve to figuring out how to play at times, especially in Act 2, it's a fun strategy game and a must have for Jaws collectors.
10:45 to 12:00 Thank you so much for this video. I've tried to play this game with many groups of friends and while we love Act 1, the instructions for Act 2 simply do not explain anything regarding the dice rolls, evade points or the bonus attacks. The first time I thought I was just misunderstanding the rules, but after having 3 groups of people read the manual and none of us understanding how to play, I think it's just not adequately explained. But with this video we can actually figure it out now :)
Nicely explained. Now i need the JAWS soundtrack for when i play. Also, Act I should be played with bright lights. Act II in darken lighting and whiskey shots.

xboxboba1 I got on Target’s website and requested this from my local shop since they didn’t have it. I paid for it online, and in two days, it arrived at my local target for pickup. Give it a shot! This game is a lot of fun.

I checked here first because I heard the game play was a bit complicated. There DOES seem to be a lot of rules to consider, but it sounds like a GOOD thing. This seems like one of those games that have many details and that's what makes it an interesting game. Listening to the details here, it seems like they've paid a lot of attention to the film and that makes it even better. I'm sold! Thanks for this little video. It's great to have a little help for reference! ~JSV
As long as we're making board games based on old Steven Spielberg movies, how about a cool "Raiders of the lost Ark" game? It could be huge! Asmodee are you listening?
Probably doesn't surprise you to learn this, but the game essentially already exists. Look for "Fortune & Glory". It's not flawless (bizarrely, you spend Glory and hope to get Fortune) and can get a bit samey after you've played it a couple of times, but it has the theme DOWN and has a couple of interesting mechanics. Unfortunately it's Flying Frog games so it has the the same problems many of their games do (the expansions make the game worse, not better, many people dislike the photo art, the female characters tend to be parodies, etc). It's still a lot of fun if you can find it cheap enough.
Also The Adventurers games have kind of a Raiders of the Lost Ark feel to them as well. They are more simple than Fortune and Glory, but it's another option to enjoy that kind of theme. :)
I have a question I wonder if someone could answer: In act 2 (I’ll use the resurface options shown on 11:46 as an example) let’s say the boat in section B was destroyed - can the shark surface at B, an open water space since the boat is destroyed, and attack the boat sections of A or C since B is open water? Or does it have to only attack the boat in that specific resurface option even if it’s beside open water? Does that make sense? Also question 2 I have is; In Act 2 if 2 people attack the shark on the same spot does the evade count against the damage of each individual attack damage or the damage dealt total?
The Hammer card in the video has a blood splatter but the one I have does not. Was this just not included in the retail release of the game? If not, that’s a bummer cause it looks great!
Clarification on motion sensors: The shark must report if it was in a motion sensor space at any time during its turn, not just moving through or into a motion sensor space. It would also have to report if it started its move in a sensor space, even not moving would require the reporting the sensor triggered. One of the shark's power tiles allows to not set off a motion sensor, which explains how it might wind up starting the next turn in a sensor space, but not yet detected.
10:00 this is still something that doesn't make any sense to me. Why would anyone ever put themselves on a space where the shark could resurface if they can always be on an adjacent space or further away? There are going to be very few instances where they have no choice but to be on a resurfacing space, and will almost always be able to avoid putting themselves in harm's way, making it almost impossible for the shark to ever hit them.
I have two questions. It's possible that they have been answered already but I don't have time to look at all the comments right now, as we are moving to Act 2. First, if a crew member has 4 actions available, can that crew member use two actions to move two spaces? Second, if a crew member has 4 actions available, can they spend two actions to rescue two swimmers? I can't seem to find this in the manual.
We've played this half a dozen times, it seems the shark always gets 9 swimmers in act 1 (quickly and easily). Act 1 is fun but is over before it's begun. Act 2 is repetitive and long winded.. I wonder if we have missed something vital but apparently not!
The only other advantage I can think of being in the water is that it allows you to hit the shark with melee weapons/attachable weapons in two water zones. Normally if you were on the boat you would only have access to one water zone but being in the water allows you to have access to two water zones to attach the shark. However, being in the water is still not encouraged because the shark gets a bonus roll if you are adjacent to the shark in the water after the shark attack phase.
Either Act 1 or Act 2 can be played independently (there are setup rules for doing this) or together. They are connected when you play them together as what happens in Act 1 affects the setup of Act 2.
I want to play this but my local target lies!! They had it listen as available in the store, but alas, none available. "They think they shipped it to us, but they didn't," says the worker there.
I saw it in two targets but it was NOT on the main wall of games. It was located on an endcap nearby but in one case not even visible from the game wall. Look around.
After learning properly how the adjacency in act 2 works I realized how bad this video really is. And how many games might have been played wrong because of it. I advice reading the rulebook and the part for act 2 twice. It also doesn't explain the barrels properly in act 1.
Can you elaborate on the adjacency in act 2 since that's the one thing I'm not clear on either? If players can attack from a space adjacent to a resurfacing space, I can't see why they would ever be in a position where the shark can hit them until the shark has already destroyed most of the boat.
As Marc said and it also determines how much extra gear the crew gets beyond their basic gear. Some of that gear is VERY helpful! I gave Quint the fishing rod and he snagged the shark limiting it to all results of 2 hits becoming only one until it broke the line. There is also a traq spear which limits the shark to 1 die for one turn. Combined they kept my trio afloat on a broken piece of boat.
@@kennethfharkin It sounds cool. I'm not a big fan of Scotland Yard type games but I've always loved the JAWS film so I'm keen to try it out. Have you tried playing out the events of the film as closely as possible to see if the same outcome occurs?

That’s why you write down your moves, Then afterwards the players can check and if they see an issue then someone is getting kicked out of the friend group
@@yesman12345ful A good point. My wife is pretty smart, but English isn't her first language, and I often have a hard time explaining some simpler games to her. We played this for the first time over the weekend with another couple, and she was able to pick it up after the first round. It would probably be easiest to make her Hooper and have two other people to play with, since every character only has a few tasks to focus on, and Hooper's couldn't be more straightforward. All of the others (the shark included) have to deal with a little more strategizing.
This board game is fun, but it really should have come with an app to help guide all the phases along (and include the music and sound effects!). In this day and age companion apps should be standard, especially when you have a popular property like this.
I wanted to love this. Its just too complicated to be fun. There's too many rules that can be overlooked or missed. Make it like 1-3 players (Brody, Quint and Hooper) against the shark with an electronic lighthouse in the middle complete with Jaws music and sound effects. Simplify it. Enhance it. Not this interpretive convoluted mess.

I missed the reason anyone would get into the water in Act 2,. What's the advantage?
No advantage. You'll want to get out of the water if the shark throws you into the water.
As the shark hits the boat there will be times that you are thrown in.
Also I think adjacency issues, on damaged boat tiles, might give you no choice but to go into the water in order to get to another part of the Orca?
If you're on the upper left boat tile, and the adjacent tiles are broken, you'll need to move or just be a sitting duck where you are

This game is anti-Semetic.
Noel Villarin I quit playing when Jaws attempted metzitzah b'peh on my swimmer!
Jewish swimmers are kosher, it's okay
ADR and sped up video is very distracting.
Seems way to complicated, no thanks I’ll just watch the movie again for about the 100th time.
Lmao thought the title said "how to play jews"
Too complicated
I wanted to love this. Its just too complicated to be fun. There's too many rules that can be overlooked or missed. Make it like 1-3 players (Brody, Quint and Hooper) against the shark with an electronic lighthouse in the middle complete with Jaws music and sound effects.
Simplify it. Enhance it. Not this interpretive convoluted mess.
