I wanted to thank you Tony as I wasn’t aware of this recall until your video. Brough my car into the local BFG dealer and was able to get a brand new set of replacement tires at no cost to me. The best part about it was that my tires were almost 6 yrs old. the car doesn’t get driven much so the tire wear was non- existent which probably helped in the no cost swap. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks! My BFG Radial TAs turned brown as well. Used your info from the video, called Michelin to open a case number, and within 24 hours I had a brand new set of tires. BFG covered 100%. I Just paid the mounting and balancing. Like you said, that’s fair. Glad you made the video!!!
Great video Tony! I have All -Terrain T/A BFGoodrich tires for my ranger and have a 100,000 miles and still look new. It's the 2nd set . I have 237,000 miles on my 01, 4.0L, 4x4 Ranger Edge. Still running strong. I do all the fluid change myself. Got her in 2002. ❤
I have new BFG Radial TA's with a January 2023 build date that were installed in June 2023 and guess what... Turning brown! It appears almost like a liquid stain and creeps across each letter. Seems to be accelerated by driving the car. These are 225/60/15's and made in Mexico. Scrubbing each letter with Acetone on a rag gets it 80% better but it takes an hour to do the whole car and is not easy. And the tires can never be bought completely back to the bright white they were when the blue coating was first scrubbed off... Very disappointed.
I have a set I bought 2 years ago that were made in 2022, one out of the four has the RWL’s starting to turn brown. I probably have less than 500 miles on them. The car hasn’t seen rain or snow, even if the streets are wet it’s in the garage. Not driven from Nov-March. Apparently BF Goodrich hasn’t solved the brown tire caper as of this date.

My tires on two show cars are within the affected dates and we’re browning with less than 200 miles each. I went through this process Feb 2024 and after a lot of haggling came up to a 70% reimbursement. They say the reason is the cars are not driven enough?? My last set were installed in 95 and 97 respectively and were white when I replaced due to age.
It's funny that you have to haggle with them and I did the same thing. 70% is better than nothing but not as it should be. I can say that if this set tuns brown I am going to pull them, sell them, and go with Coopers.
Warning! Their warranty coverage is apparently all over the place. My tires are less than 4 years old and less than 2,000 miles (tread like new) and they only offered me 37% off a new set. What gives! I'm going to call them and lodge a formal complaint.
OK, after a call they will give me 70% which I think is fair. Thanks again for the great video! If I didn't stumble on this I would be buying a set of cooper tires right now, LOL.
Hi Tony. It really isn't fair to pay mounting and balancing again if the tires are not as advertised. I discussed that with them. My tires showed browning within 2 months. The rear tires, P255/60R15's were worse than the fronts of a different size. They replaced them but guess what? Browning again. I might take these back and find a different tire. I don't think they quite figured out the problem. My other brand tires never did this. I did pay upfront for the new tires and got a reimbursement check 3 weeks later in the mail. (I didn't want direct deposit through J.P. Morgan.) I'm glad you're letting people know they can do this. 👍 They also told me they are not meant for cars that sit for long periods of time. So much stuff they should make buyer aware of before purchasing. I even called with concerns about the browning before I bought them and they assured me back then problem was resolved. 😕 How are your new tires?
So far so good but it has only been a month. If these brown like the last set I will officially write them off and Michelin the parent company forever. Believe me there will be a follow up video.

What BF tells you about the browning is all bullshit. BF white letters tires, manufactured in the 20th century, did NOT brown! I know this because I owned tires of that vintage and guess what, the letters stayed White! Never turned brown, ever! They started putting something in the tire rubber, in the 21st century, that causes the browning. Unless they go back to their formulations from the 20th century, you’re going to continue to see the browning bullshit.
The guy from BFG just emailed me and assured me the problem has been rectified. I am still skeptical and looking at cooper cobras and Mickey sportsman s/t. Any updates on newer tires?
So far so good. Had to use a scouring pad to remove the blue. I have gotten reports from other that said the issue was still a problem. We shall see. I went for it because they covered a new set 100% minus mount and balance and my tires were a few years old already.

Just got off phone with them. Our tires were purchased by Make a Wish for my son's 70 Mach 1 restoration. They wanted original receipt which we don't have. Make a Wish restored the car for him in 2014. Given that info they said we were outside the warranty period of 6 years. After a lengthy conversation they did eventually give me a case number but said the best they would do was a 25% credit on new tires if the local dealer would concur that they have the browning issue. I recently scrubbed them clean so will have to see what dealer says. Will come armed with your info. Thanks Tony @grabbermach

I'm calling out Michelin because if I'm looking at this right the last four digits on my tires are 2721 past the so called effected date for yellowing tires yet all my tires are clearly browning. Stay away from these tires regardless in my opinion.
The tire manufacturers are putting something in the rubber that they either didn’t used to or at more elevated levels, that is causing this. I have the same problem with Milestar StreetSteel tires. Three years and only 600 miles later, the letters are shit brown. Interesting how tires were made for over three decades without browning letters. And then the brown shit started in the 21st Century.. Unfortunately I cannot find any radial tires, made by anyone, that’ll fit my car’s factory wheels that don’t have raised white letters on them. They should be called raised brown letters..
It took some time for them to do anything about this issue and they denied it for years. I'm going to how this formula works out prior to making a decision. Thanks for watching!

I am starting to hear this more and more. IF that happens these will come off next spring sold on marketplace and replaced with Cooper Cobras.

I have a set of BFGs with date codes 4220 and 0521, and they are going brown. Installed in 2021.

They reimburse you. It took 8 business days to get the $ back into my account.
