Did some recurve bow shooting at increasing measures with my cousin Emma last summer. Emma is a first-time archer, and I hadn't picked up the bow for a year or so at the time. @stevelin574
If you slightly roll the string away from you as you draw, you can use that to keep tension on the arrow to stop it from bouncing on you. Good on you for getting the kids involved. I bet they enjoyed being recorded
