    Fleur's life is so different from my life, I don't have all these lovely things ... but what I love about Fleur is she makes no excuses for herself and she never sounds braggy ... she's a girl showing us her lovely life .... thats it .... very likable and watchable.

      It's a very true comment. I find the comments/questions about how much she earns & spends quite offensive. You wouldn't interrogate your own friends or relatives. She works hard and has made a wonderful life for herself.

    Fleur is definitely one of my favourite UK youtubers, I love that she's honest about the interior design being based on aesthetic, however it really did hit me how the world is gradually transitioning into a virtual world. Fleur's idea of 'practicality' is what looks good on camera and obviously this isn't her primary home but it's significant that she owns property for filming. I definitely don't mean this in a negative way - this is her career and it's actually really interesting!

    • @noannellesky9360
      @noannellesky9360 8 років тому +25

      +ophelia fay it's not just for filming/ She has lots of business meetings that happen in London (regarding her channel, her book, sponsorships,etc.) and ended up spending a lot on hotel nights (and even though hotels are nice, it can't be fun to not feel at home for a significant amount of time every month). That is why she bought the flat. Then, it needed to be good to film in so that she didn't waste time or opportunities while in London.

    • @Rachel-uy3rw
      @Rachel-uy3rw 8 років тому +14

      +hihellohellow yeah definitely, i just thought it was interesting because i don't always think about just how much of a commitment and a 'real life' job youtubing is. Didn't mean it in a bad way at all!

    • @anyalake
      @anyalake 8 років тому +17

      Ophelia, you are right and I think Fleur herself would agree. That's why she laughed at herself when she mentioned that she loved the tile floors in her bathroom as they were very instragrammable! UA-cam et al used to be a reflection of real life, now we are recreating our lives to be fit for our virtual ones. strange era indeed

    People commenting on the cost of the apartment are so rude! Fleur is talented and lucky enough to make UA-cam her full time job. Yes, it probably pays better than a lot of other job, but why on earth are people so mean? Good for her, she doesn't hurt anyone!
    I'm so glad Fleur can afford all this as she's one of the few youtubers who doesn't rub it in your face! She should never apologize for being successful!
    Go Fleur!! ;) Lots of love Xx

    Wow you can really see why you tubers hide their wealth from the ridiculously jealous comments on this video. This is actually a practical business decision that they made, the people who think this is "obscene" should see those who rent hotel rooms for $50000 plus a night just for fun

    I'm not judging fleur AT ALL. It's nice that she can afford these nice things and it's obvious she's worked hard and she never comes across as spoiled or ungrateful. However when I hear that this is a flat just sitting there for whenever she needs it here and there, I can't help but think of all those who are homeless and would treasure 1 home, let alone 2. Just makes me wish we lived in a country that helped it's needy out more. Particularly vulnerable people and veterans who have no home to go to. To me this just seems like a waste 😔

    I think she is very good at what she does (beauty reviews) and I guess she spends a lot of time on her work, but there are people who work harder out there... People who work in restaurants, shops, law firms, cafés, etc. Even people who earn a lot but lead stressful lives cannot relate to someone who spends her days in a pretty flat like that researching lipsticks and perfumes. I think she should focus on contributing to the lives of her followers instead of showing off her own, even if it is well-intended.

      If someone finds a way to make a good living doing what they truly love and actually find enjoyment in these is no reason to stop or change it. It's not really fair to say that others are working harder when you don't really know what goes into doing what she does. You need to think of it like a business, she has taken the risk and now has found success and has all of the business related responsibilities that go along with that. We don't tell other small business owners they don't deserve what they have because there are other people out there working "harder" so I see that as a pretty silly argument.
      Also what does that even mean "she should focus on contributing to the lives of her followers instead of showing off her own"? She has these particular followers because this is what they want to see, they searched for it, so if she had completely different content she probably wouldn't have the same followers. Anyways how could she "contribute to the[ir] lives" in a different way?... do you mean by giving to charity? If so that's her personal choice it's not for us to dictate it to her. What another person does with their OWN money is not any of our business unless it's illegal or maybe if it was unethical. The same goes for how a person chooses to make their money, it's really not our place to tell someone else how to how to live their life and what they should do for a living, we all make that choice for ourselves.
      As for "she should focus on contributing to the lives of her followers instead of showing off her own" I'd bet that many of her viewers would argue that she is contributing to their lives (just not in the way YOU want or expect). I can totally understand that her life may seem a bit foreign or even unattainable to people like you or someone like me who grew up pretty poor. But I would say that channels like hers do hold value, for example I'm a minimalist and I don't like to buy/own many things but I still enjoy looking at aesthetically pleasing things. Channels like this are nice for me because I can get the fix I want looking at pretty and/or expensive things and then I go on with my day. I get the enjoyment without having to spend any money! =)
      In our current market people are pushed to consume more and more and live well beyond their means so this is a nice way for me to completely get rid of that pressure. I'd say that's contributing to a viewers life in a pretty significant way in my opinion. I get to continue living my life as a minimalist and should I ever be tempted to purchase something I don't really need or actually want (just think I need/want) I know I have a handy way to cope with and resist that temptation (luckily that urge is pretty weak for me but I'm still human :p ).
      Let's be honest most women enjoy pretty things and our consumer culture constantly puts this pressure (both external and internal pressure) on us to buy this new thing with the false promise that it will bring us happiness. In reality most material possessions don't bring us that joy or fulfillment we were looking for. So even though I know that I can't afford many of the things I see or I won't buy them because of my personal values I still get to enjoy looking at something beautiful and get some enjoyment out of it. Also beauty reviews are really helpfull, they stop you from buying something you won't like. When ever I need a new beauty item I always check reviews so I get it right the first time around (saves me time, money and avoids a headache).
      Even if she wasn't giving me that bit of enjoyment or practical help, whatever she chooses to do with her life, money or UA-cam channel is her choice and her choice alone and if you personally don't find anything of value in it then simply don't watch and contribute to her following, it's really that simple. She's not bragging and she's not doing anything wrong, she's just enjoying the fact that she's been lucky enough to find an unusual path to success and letting her viewers in on what her life looks like. She doesn't owe anyone anything, except showing appreciation to her viewers that have helped enable her success, which it seems she does.
      I think people that have a problem with her (or other UA-camrs) for showing their lives are actually a bit resentful and jealous that it's not them. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you personally are resentful or jealous but people in general sometimes naturally feel that way and it's a bit depressing. I want everyone to be able to do what they truly love and I'm happy for those who are doing just that. Honestly that is a great message especially for younger women, it's good for them to see someone who has found a way to make doing what they really love (no matter what it is) actually work for them, it's quite an inspiration.
      Sorry that was so long, I saw a few messages similar to yours and thought they deserved a proper reply. It's nothing personal towards you, just my opinion. Have a good day! =)

    The tiles in old bathroom were not BADLY done, it's pretty normal for the grout in between the tiles (gaps) to fell apart after few years. You shouldn't really say it was badly done 😉 There was nothing wrong, you can always re grout the gaps, such an easy job 😉 x

    • @FleurDeForce
      @FleurDeForce  8 років тому +12

      +Mrs15swain05 the actual tiles were cracked, not the grout! They were also tiled on top of another layer of tiles

    • @Mrs15swain05
      @Mrs15swain05 8 років тому

      +Fleur DeForce Ahh, sorry I didn't know the tiles were cracked, it wasn't visible. I thought you are talking about the grout. I am a PA to an interior designer so I see loads of houses being renovated etc. Sadly, tiles on top of tiles is normal - sounds crazy but tilers do that a lot, saves time and money 😉 There is apparently nothing wrong with doing that - I always thought it was wrong but after meeting so many tilers about 99% of them puts layer on another layer...weird, huh...? x

    • @Simplygomar
      @Simplygomar 8 років тому

      +Mrs15swain05 yes it's pretty normal to put tiles on tiles. It saves time but also a lot of money. If you're going to undo the first layer of tile, 100% chance you're going to redo like the "base" on which the tiles are put on. Same goes for wooden floor :) and it is actually better to do so!
