Love to see and watch the videos. Didn’t know what engine you’re using, with the exhaust ports coming down instead out like a vw. Watched again,it’s a vw. I just turned 82 and I would to fly!
Interesting mine has a belt or gear driven generator /alternator it monts on the back of the engine basicly flywheel housing, but I like your idea better
Hi Lars, I'm going to build one of these and I'm looking for a little info I was hoping you could help me with; Are kits available somewhere? I might want to scratch build it thou and I cant locate where to get the aluminum spars. Can you advise me? Thanks. Tim
I do believe kits are not available since many years ago. Also Preceptor used to have a bad rep, for lack of support. Mine was scratch built from drawings. Spars can (I think) still be bought from Aircraft Spruce.
Did Dwayne Counts ever make good on all those pre paid orders that never got ordered years ago? I remember a big kerfuffle years ago. Edit: am i remembering the right person? Its been years, so forgive me if i screwed that part up.
Lars, great video. Please, please post some more. The Ultra Pup is a fine airplane and there’s not a lot them on UA-cam. You have a really nice looking airplane. When was it built? What size VW cc are you running? Are you running two ignitions ? I see it has the folding wing option. What is the fuel capacity? How much does it say empty? Thanks again for sharing your Sunday Flight.
H Robert. It was built in 2010, runs a Mossler 2180 (VW Rebuild), double ignition coil, and magneto. It's built with flaps, so even if it can be folded, it's a bit more work involved, so that is not practical. Fuel in two wing tanks totals 13.5 gal/50 l. Empty weight is around 40 lbs/205kg.
@@whoanelly737-8 _Sailing Ho'oponopono_ probably meant that this plane won't be in any danger of being tail-heavy. Pretty much every fixed-wing plane out there is built nose-heavy. This allows the plane without engine power to dive and build up speed to get lift and level out. However, make sure first that there is enough altitude to do it safely. A big and heavy plane will require more diving altitude, while the Ultra Pup in the video requires just a few hundred feet.

Cruises at 74kts, and otherwise as strong as a J3 Cub, so it will take some to fly backwards or bend. But in strong wind if you slow down, wit stall speed being in the low twenties, you can reverse if you like.
I like your channel 😊,,,,,,,great videos,,thanks for sharing. 😎👍
Sweet plane Lars! Well done on the build and the type 4 is a beast of an engine!
OK! Type 4 (914) The cylinder heads first thing I noticed...Very clean PUP!
Not expecting the second seat. Well done video. I love airplanes regardless of the size. I’ve started my STOL build 😎👍.
Nice airplane, looks like a lot of fun.
Runs and sounds great!

What a beautiful plane!!!!
Where can I buy plans for this plane?
Beautiful plane.
Neat airplane, great music.
Nice plane, how much ?
Muy lindo avion👌
Nice footwork!
just love it..
What id like to know is whats that on your landing gear struts, wind generator?my ultra pup dosent have that what ever it is
Yes that is a 12V wind generator that allows me to run 12V gear like radio, lights, iPad and charge phone.

El generador que esta en el tren de aterrizaje que es?
Es un variacion de un "Genni Pod", directamente connectado a la bateria.

Is that a direct drive prop or is there some reduction gearing?
Direct drive.

@@larsgardsvold4345 My ultra pup was built without flaps. I never thought it needed them... When you pull the power it sinks like a rock!
Do you have plans or the link to plans for this?
Check: "Preceptor PUP and other tailwheel flyers" on Facebook.
I have a rea
I have a realy nice one just built and flown for its second time thinking of selling it in alaska too
nice airplane !
What’s the cruise speed
80 mph/69.5 kts

Где можно найти чертежи на этот самолет?
Those are nose heavy aircraft, no danger being tail heavy. Looks like it flies quite well.
No danger being tail heavy??? You obviously know nothing about airplanes.
@@whoanelly737-8 Tell me why you think it's tail heavy? I'm interested in learning...
@@sailinghooponopono2457 Nose heavy planes fly poorly and tail heavy planes fly once ! This plane here flew fine CG is A OK I would say

Tail heavy situation is not far away. Where is the fuel tank. Water is still warm in Mediterranean see.
Where do you think the fuel tank is LOL
There is one tank in each wing.
This is a nose heavy aircraft, not much chance to be tail heavy.

Will fly backward when facing the direction of any wind. Not survivable with a rough landing.
