I love how everyone thinks that mgmt just makes weird videos when in fact the videos all represent something and shown through extremely complex allegories. It's actually quite beautiful.
I love how every time I watch an MGMT music video, my first response after watching it is always, "What the fuck did I just watch?" Every. time. I love them.
So basically what I am seeing here is a lamprey (a parasitic eel looking fish that is born in one form and morphs into an entirely different creature that attaches itself to a normal fish and feeds off and controls fish until it dies) Lampreys were accidently introduced to American side of great lakes thru shipping canals, and have since exploded in population and threatened other natural residents. The reason I say lamprey is because the machine that looks like an iron lung with a sphincter on it, is actually a machine used by fish and wildlife to chemosterilize male lampreys before returning to lakes as they contain biomatter that benefits the environment as they die and decompose. There is an episode of dirty jobs s06 03 where they show this machine and the process. I would guess with all the puppets as well that this points to them returning home after evolving and changing into a different being than when you started out as into the music business as you have become controlled and possessed by a parasitic being controlling you, and your life only to realize that everyone around you is also controlled by other things as well.
I was turned on to MGMT by Time To Pretend and Kids, their more "Mainstream" music, but once I started listening to their other stuff, I saw what this band really is. They're complex and incredible on every level. When Congratulations came out all of my friends didn't really like it- this pissed me off. They were all pissed that there was no Electric Feel on it, and that the songs were a bit more indie. But that's what makes MGMT. They don't care. And for that, thank you. MGMT forever!
Same, I mean oracular spectacular was also indie too but this and mgmt 2013 are out of this world, even if I didn't like the latter as much as the other albums
This video feels like it has a lot of story to it. Almost all the guys in the house are from the army. Obviously these two have been away for a while and something happened to Ben, so they had to hide it to still be accepted. When Ben gets excited and really happy he feels like they would all accept him and shows them this odd deformity. These military men immediately stop caring for who he is and want to eradicate this monster... and then, well I don't know..
The first time I heard this song I got this flash of the band- Sparks - and as I hear it again and again, I hear other flashes of the psychedelic Beatles and T-Rex, not sure if MGMT count these three as influences but they do have aspects of those bands- loving the thick production- SO NICE to hear MGMT in this sea of sameness that is the music industry these days
They "fell off" because people don't like weird music. They want to listen to a song once and love it. If you listen to this album like 3 times, you start jamming to it, people just can't handle weird. All they want is a girl singing about a guy she broke up with, they don't want hidden and cryptic lyrics that make you think. PEOPLE ARE DUMB and that is why MGMT can't survive right now, sadly.
I don't think they fell off. People who like them will still like them. And people who didn't like them still don't like them. And there's more people not liking them, so that's that.
From a mixture of my own interpretation and what i found on google.. MGMTare themselves, All the people on the room are a record company, The eel is the song "Electric Feel", The bald military guy is the radio stations, and the wierd anus machine is mainstream music. So MGMT showed electric feel to the company and they added it to the rest of mainstream music. In other words, the video represent their explosive increase in popularity when they released Oracular Spectacular. hope it helped (:
This video is very creative just like the rest of this band. It's the first time I see the videos for those songs and I think they are one of the best psychedelic videos of our generation!
i luv how the sign at the beginning when they r driving says sue the spiders, sink the welsh :D i didn't notice that til a few minutes ago. LOVE this song, and MGMT.
This reminded me of a shroom trip gone awry... I wonder they're on when they come up with some of this stuff. I love it though, dear god I can't get enough
oh, i'm POSITIVE they don't like their record label. That's why this album will probably be one of my favorites of theirs. MGMT released a big Fuck Off to not only the people who were only in it for the pop overtones that hindered most of their audience from fully gaining one lick of knowledge from their lyrics (myself included for a while), but also to Columbia Records for pretty much drawing the fun out of Oracular Spectacular. It was TOO upbeat. Congratulations was a real wake-up call.
I love how everyone thinks that mgmt just makes weird videos when in fact the videos all represent something and shown through extremely complex allegories. It's actually quite beautiful.
Please explain
pretentious
WHOA!!
... I've got to go, I have a dentist appointment...

dont worry guys, weird shit happens when i hang out with my family too
eel from neck hole?
I love how every time I watch an MGMT music video, my first response after watching it is always, "What the fuck did I just watch?"
Every. time.
I love them.
ok boomer
U esse
Right now this is my favourite MGMT song. Absolutely spectacular.
An Oracular Spectacular, if you will.
This is their best song. This song is so insane live.

braden tripp I commend you sir
braden tripp Excellent.
maybe, maybe not.
Sí, todo eso, sumado a los vínculos masones en la industria del entretenimiento.
This guy gets it
It never ceases to amaze me how little it takes for a video to get censored
The giant pulsating anus machine was it?
@@seanp8220Not even that, just a male statues chest.
3:58 is the "Uncensored" part
This is seriously one of my favourite music videos of all time

That's exactly what happens when I go to my grandma's house
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR 10 GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING YEARS. I MOTHERFUCKING FOUND IT. YEAAAAAAH.

"Delirium is sudden severe confusion and rapid changes in brain function that occur with physical or mental illness."

this out of all things ruined hotdogs for me
Just keep the hotdaogs out of your arssss!.....lol.
The video is really just... Do I need to say anything? The lyrics are amazing.

this makes me so happy that good music can still be made. thank you mgmt thank you!!

Lol, Ben's face at
2:43
The face Andrew makes at 2:09.
its the weirdest look ever
But andrew makes it cute
The band isn't trying to be less mainstream, they are trying to be true to their sound!
I look forward to seeing them live, they sounded great on SNL. I think this may be the best new song off the album IMHO
So how was it?
This song has taught me more about phototropism than all my sciences classes ever have.
how are they able to make everyone of their videos so unique?
Probably my favorite piece from them
This was my first mgmt's song
Andrew makes EVERYthing cute.
Such an acid trip...
Absolutly love love love the song and video!
I can't get enough of this song/video
this is one of the most wild music videos i have ever watched and somehow i understand what is happening
2021 and i'm still obsessed with this song
the mgmt videos and music are so like my freaky dreams, i love it
It's nice to see a band that's so talented, and so genuine, making good. Down with formulaic music! Up with MGMT!!
this song, coupled with the video, could be one of the best pieces of modern music i've heard/seen.
I honestly think this song has the best lyrics of all songs I've ever heard.
Is that including the beatles.
ok but i love you too, death
@Capybara definitely the Beatles have shittttt lyrics 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Such an underrated song

I don't agree

Imperfectly perfect
This video is very creative just like the rest of this band. It's the first time I see the videos for those songs and I think they are one of the best psychedelic videos of our generation!

THESE GUYS ARE GENIUSES!!!
This is genius! It makes perfect sense!
This song starts kind of sh*t for like 5 seconds and it just gradually but consistently gets better right up until the end.
i luv how the sign at the beginning when they r driving says sue the spiders, sink the welsh :D i didn't notice that til a few minutes ago. LOVE this song, and MGMT.
QUE TEMAZOOO
God damn, Andrew in that jacket and choker combo ❤️
this is criminally underated
This is an awesome song and video, I enjoy all of the old albums including the popular songs, I just don't think they can make a bad song.

I like they way your mind works man.
Andrew's just like: Ben, you had ONE job.

Wow. That video actually changed my mindset momentarily :o I feel funny now
11 years
@Live442 THANK YOU for clearing that up for me now it makes perfect sence because that old guy tried reaching down his shirt for the main stream songs
OMG genius!
This reminded me of a shroom trip gone awry... I wonder they're on when they come up with some of this stuff. I love it though, dear god I can't get enough
OMG Genius!
I GOT AN ARMY AD AT THE END OF THIS VIDEO HELP
This song is just about a moment of random insanity.
