She has more of a jazzy sound and that's where she shines. They didn't give her the best songs, but they gave her 3 Amy Winehouse songs.
Naya Rivera was extremely talented, and I miss her presence in this world dearly. R.I.P.
Glee was an interesting show. In some ways, it hasn’t aged well. The earlier seasons were much stronger than the later seasons. But, the cast was massively talented. The two featured here - Amber Reilly and Naya Rivera - were my absolute favorite singers from the cast. They also sound amazing together on “River Deep, Mountain High.” Another song from the show that I would highly recommend would be “The Scientist.” There are many, many others worth checking out, but I think those are a good start.

as to the lip-syncing: it's a show but they DID record all the vocals themselves and iirc, naya/santana (the 'pop' voice) as well as amber/mercedes consistently needed the least amount of adjusting in post of the whole cast, usually being damn near perfect to what was needed/wanted for the performance
The only song she didn't perform herself was say a little prayer, and that's only because it was her first song (episode 2) and she was explicitly hired as a backup dancer, not a singer. When they actually put her in the studio and realized she could sing - they immediately switched to her singing her own vocals.
The "Smooth Criminal" cover really shows off Naya Rivera's voice so well. I sort of hate-watched Glee but "Rumors/Someone Like You" and "Smooth Criminal" performances are so good that I still listen to them today.
I love Smooth Criminal. It was a sing off between her and another character and she holds back the power until the second half. And then... "we have ignition. "

Naya Rivera {Santana) has a pretty powerful voice very versatile. She and Amber were two of the best on Glee, IMO. As far as Santana (Naya), I would suggest her rendition of Don't Rain On My Parade, Mine, Girl On Fire, Smooth Criminal and definitely Alfie if you want to hear her vocal range and power. She sang EVERYTHING beautifully but those songs honestly showed her prowess as a singer the best.
these two singers are generally considered 2 of the 3 main powerhouse voices on the show. everyone has their favorites but these 2 are pretty special because they (and fans) essentially fought to get that recognition. a couple songs that really showcase both these singers together are "river deep, mountain high" and "how will i know." there are a ton of songs to choose from and honestly, anything either of them sing is always beautifully done because their voices are just so amazing.
The first girl who sang is named Mercedes and the actress who plays her is named Amber Riley.
The second girl was Santana.
As for other songs from Santa probably two of her most beloved solos on the show are Valerie and If I Die Young. The second one in particular is very powerful as she sang it on an episode that was a tribute to one of the actors on the show who had recently passed away and it was the shows way of paying tribute to him. It's equally spooky listening to her sing it now because a few years after that Naya Rivera, the actress who plays Santana, also passed away.

The second girl that had the solo (Naya Rivera) passed away July 8th, 2020 in a weird boating/swimming accident. She was out with her 4 year-old son and she drowned somehow accidentally, but I don't think they figured out how. I don't think the son even knows what happened. Really sad....
Yes, they did lip-sync some on the show, but it's still their voices. They did it a lot when they had performances with a lot of movement. Prerecorded and played it back for the scene.
I think she tried to save her son who otherwise would have drowned and she couldn’t save herself after that, so her son survived
Unfortunately Lakes like the one she was in have small tides underneath them that probably dragged her under water while she used the last of her strength to save her son. Even calm waters can be extremely dangerous.
The second girl is Santana Lopez(played by Naya Rivera). She has an amazing voice! My favorite songs of her are: Girl on fire, Mine, Don't rain on my parade (in s5), Smooth criminal (with Grant Gustin), Hand in my pocket/Feel the Earth move(with Heather Morris), Love song(with Lea Michele and Diana Agron), Valerie (there's a s2 and a s5 version), etc.
Amber Riley (the first singer) won an Oliver (British Tony) for playing Effie in Dream Girls on the West End in London. Yeah, she has pipes.

This is one of the proformances that first sold me on the concept of Mashups. I didn’t really get it until this one.
Glee was such a funny-sad-emo romp, especially for those of us who were in to choir and band, but for any kid who felt left out or bullied. There were SO many great performances, and many of the actors have gone on to great success.
Some, sadly, are no longer with us.
They tell the story of their lives thru song and or lyrics. It depends on the storyline. They mix it up. See Naya Rivera in the episode Cold Hearted on Glee. It’s great.
Niya and Grant Gustin's Smooth Criminal is probably one of my all-time favorite glee performances

They're both incredible, and their duets are the best. You should totally react to River Deep Mountain High, Doo Woop (The Thing), Survivor/I Will Survive, and Shake It Out. Also, Naya's voice (Santana) is really versatile, I think you'll notice if you react to more of her songs on the show: Nutbush City Limits is a MUST, also Valerie, Mine, Back to Black, Songbird

Yeah they are lip syncing but they are lip syncing to themselves as singing live while filming a scene is pretty hard. The Whole cast is very talented, many came from Broadway or off Broadway and Local Musical theater backgrounds. Almost everyone on the main cast had to sing before they were cast for their roles.
River Deep Mountain High… they sing it together and man do their voices work well together

Glee had some creative productions especially after two, three seasons when they just got more confident. Most of them were good singers but Amber Riley and Naya Rivera were tow of the best and more popular. They also did Tina Turner's River Deep, mountain high, I will survive, Candyman, well, lots of songs, of course.
Glee had an amazingly talented cast and while they did lip sync for the show performances they pre recorded their own vocals. The tracks they covered for the show often charted and the cast even had a successful tour. Amber Riley was always my favorite followed closely by Naya Rivera who was just such a versatile performer. People mention so many of her best performances on Glee but personally, aside from her Amy Winehouse covers, I love her performance of "Alfie" as well as "Make no mistake, she's mine" with Chord Overstreet. She certainly is more of a pop performer. Her take on "Don't rain on my parade" is unmistakably pop and surprisingly it stands up well against the standard rendition. For a song that features these two well "River deep, mountain high" and "Survivor/I will survive" would be some of their most popular shared performances.

Naya/Santana singing "If I Die Young" will WRECK you. Especially because she died so young herself. Watch it and PLEASE react to it. Check out Darren Chris/Blaine's piano slowed down version of "Teenage Dream" and his performance of "Against All Odds". The latter was recorded live on set rather than in a studio beforehand. That may so be the case of the ballad version of Teenage Dream, but I'm not sure.
Yes, Darren recorded quite a few of his numbers (ones with just him on the piano) live on set -- the Teenage Dream performance from The Breakup, Against All Odds, and All of Me.
Strongly recommend Nutbush City from Naya. Also: River Deep Mountain High from her and the other woman. Both songs are great and Naya really has an amazing voice
Definitely look up Naya Rivera singing Songbird if you want to hear a fantastic showcase of her vocal talent! Honestly everything she sang is amazing, but be aware, she died tragically during the pandemic (was out with her very young son swimming at a lake, was able to push him up onto the boat and safety, but didn't have the strength to get herself up, and drowned). I know you'd want to look for something new that she'd done, so I wanted to let you know about.

They are both excellent! There are a lot of songs where Naya was the lead, but I’d go with “don’t rain on my parade” to really hear her belt

Glee is actually an amazing show, the music they perform is absolute perfection!
I ADORE Amber Riley’s vocals, she made my mum cry once when we went to watch her in Dream Girls and damn that woman is talented. However, Naya Rivera must be one of the most versatile singers out of the show. If you were to watch other performances by her, you’d see just how many different genres of songs that she can just pull of flawlessly
The lip syncing was more or less necessary to the format of the show. There was a reality show of folks trying out to be on Glee and they showed a lot of the behind the scenes to make the show during that which was pretty interesting.
Naya (the one with a more pop voice, in your opinion) also nailed Alicia Keys' Girl on Fire

"Watch your blood pressure, Bubbles." was a reference to the fact that, in the previous season, that guy (Burt Hummel) had a heart attack and ended up in a coma for a week. Sue (the one that made the comment) and Burt are both running for Congress during this season, and Sue's campaign partially (largely) consists of just repeatedly bringing up his heart attack and making jokes about it, which he doesn't care about and just ignores. The video they watch is part of the campaign of another runner.
Glee was very good about finding young talent and maximizing their vocals. They would do casting calls all over, found singers off of UA-cam, and other unusual places. For most of the cast, Glee was their first acting jobs. And they could all really sing. As background, the main focus was the New Directions Glee Club. There were storylines with their main competition from another school's glee club called the Warblers. There were occasions where characters from the New Directions ended up singing with the Warblers so it's well worth checking out songs by the Warblers as well. They had some great performances.
Glee had a lot of song mashups that were well paired. Most of the songs were single songs though. While most songs were covers with their own take on them, there were a few original songs during the course of the long series. There were a few main characters that usually had songs in the episodes depending on the story line, but there were minor characters who could belt out songs just as good as the main characters.
Other singers you should check our are Lea Michele who played Rachel Berry, Kevin McHale who played Artie, and Matthew Morrison who played the part of Will, the Glee Club director. Will had a lot of really good songs. My favorite being the duet he did with Neil Patrick Harris singing Dream On.

You should really check out Noah Guthrie who played Roderick from the last two seasons. He has an amazing voice. Songs to look for: Mustang Sally, Father Figure, Take Me to Church (sung while Roderick was with the Warblers) and All About That Bass (duet with Mercedes).
Roderick was never with the Warblers. When they sang Take Me to Church the Warblers were part of the New Directions because Dalton Academy had burned down so they sang with New Directions in order to compete, and the Warbler-style jackets were a concession to make them feel welcomed.
And yes, I think Noah has a fantastic voice. People should check him out on his UA-cam channel.

On Glee Naya Rivera’s version of Smooth Criminal (which is a duet with Grant Gustin) is one of my favorites.
I think the perfect song to listen to her full and raw talent is "don't rain on my parade" because she adds her style to the song

Idina Mendel (Maureen from RENT) has a few cameos in this show. Check out the Glee version of “Poker Face” and “I dreamed a dream”, she does them very well.
The second singer Naya Rivera does a tremendous Amazing Grace on another show. As others have recommended her version of Valerie, Alfie, Back to Black, Girl on Fire she was incredibly talented.
There’s lots to rag on with Glee but the musical direction was frequently INSANELY clever and the cast were generally phenomenally talented. Down for more reactions!

You don’t understand it because you never watched the show. Emmy winning show. I never missed an episode. The music is fabulous and the talent of the cast is unbelievable. Amber Riley and Naya Rivera are amazing. There is music on the show which is old school and modern as well. Watch it. You won’t be disappointed.

So, the 1st girl who sang is Amber Riley. She is so incredibly good and is a powerhouse vocalist. The 2nd girl is Naya Rivera. This song wasn't the best song for Naya but she still killed it. If you want to hear her full range, some of her best songs are If I Die Young, and Valerie. She is great on every song she does but those would be the two I recommend.

Here’s a good comparison. Lea Michele, who has a big broadway voice, sang Don’t Rain on My Parade in the first season. Pull that video clip and listen to it. Then, Naya Rivera sang the same song like 5 seasons later, and put her own take on it. It is really great and shows off her vocal ability and range
This is called a mash-up, a mix of two songs. Rumor has it and Someone like you are both Adele songs. Many of the people on thid show were exceptionally talented. It ran for six seasons. I would recommend more reactions to this series.
I love Nayas voice. She is also a really good actress. I would suggest to do Valerie, and The first time I ever saw you face. Also, Glee is a good show. You should watch it with your wife.

There are a number of good songs from Glee, but Amber Riley, the lead, has done even more amazing work since the show ended. Check her out in videos from The Wiz and Taco Tuesday. Naya Rivera passed away very sadly.
