As a musician and having some friends and acquaintances in the industry, I will say with some certainty that John is considered in the top 10 of pop vocalists world-wide. His chops were incredible, as was his stage presence. I spent an afternoon with him once and he's a very down to earth decent man. A damn legend here in Australia.
John is sacred in Australia. He is loved by us all. His skills as a vocalist and entertainer are second to none! He can sing the phone book and make it sound like a classic.
That’s our John. Always giving 110% to every song. Great singer and great man. He does have a great rock voice. Try It’s a Long Way to the Top or Playing to Win.
This song originally was a Beatles song, sung at a faster and more boppy pace. Yes, John is the most popular singer in Australia and is known as, 'The Voice', from his world-wide famous song, 'You're The Voice'. But really it is because his vocal singing talent is genius. He has a big vocally gymnastic range and can sing in over 20 genres. And he is a charismatic and consummate showman. We Aussies LOVE him ! As to the pronunciation of his surname, it depends on where you are from, but Aussies generally drop the second last letter.(It's our lazy way of speech.) More of John, please and there are three decades of songs from which to to choose . Enjoy!
Help is a Beatles song but John fixed it. This was also an encore of that voice nonstop for two to three hours. Meet our living Legend. John has over 50 years of music. What genre would you like and he isn’t raspy in ballads or Opera. Richard Marx told us he is the best voice alive anywhere today. Celine sang his biggest hit with him when he was 69, then she went all fan on him because she has always said she is his number one fan, he went all fan over her too because he doesn’t know just how great he is. He can sing any genre, he is humble and he is kind but most of all he is loved. His life comes out on DVD this month nd many Americans are waiting to see it plus some Brits. Farnham has a silent h.
Heck yes! I’m 66 and feel like that a lot. I’m wiser than I was by far but. Am older and more vulnerable. And yes John is huge HELP is Jon’s Beatles cover. Love from Australia ♥️🇦🇺
John is considered one of the Top 10 modern vocalists of all time - and that’s not my judgement, that’s the judgement of people like Celine Dion, Freddy Mercury and Tom Jones. He is a living legend, and Australia is beyond blessed that he’s ours. And we know it.
As a young teen in the 80s, i survived a near death experience, wont go into details, traumatised for many years, music played a big part in my solitude and dealing with the world, Johns songs ring loud and clear in those days, always felt uplifted or went on a journey in his songs and etched in my memory..thank you John, still doing it today, ive listened to 100s of reactions to this song...i cant get enough of it
John IS the VOICE!! Jimmy IS the rock legend and together they are explosive! Australian royalty you might say. Very big in Australia and still going strong even John in his 70s has beaten 🤞🤞 cancer recently. Jimmy is still doing what he does best as well in his late 60s. They are awesome. Find the rabbit hole Jimmy Barnes, cold chisel, Ian " mossy" Moss, Guy Sebastian, Matt Corby , tesky bros, The Veronica's, Jessica maulboy, Tina arena, Chrissy Amphlett😍 (RIP) in the Divinyls. We have proper talent down here I think there's something in the water 😂😂. Play and they shall come, we love hearing other countries discover our awesome artists 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👍 thanks for the reaction. I just subbed so please keep up with Aussie talent!
John is such a treasure and so thoroughly loved by all of us in Australia. He has been receiving treatment for cancer, and his son announced very recently that he is doing much better. I think I speak for just about everyone in Australia when I say we’re all profoundly relieved and overjoyed that we get to keep Farnsy around for a bit longer.
This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol This song is one of the last songs of the night after he has already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours, Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing. Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades. Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest. And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul. A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. ua-cam.com/video/4PPvOhPspEA/v-deo.html -Angels.. @jasongemmell5387 to be fair they are still correct with 'one of' statement for this night, although on the DVD this is only the first encore and not the second. The Sadie/It's a Long Way to the Top encore after this. Although they were wrong with the 3 hours part. It was closer to 2 hours.
FARN-EM. And welcome to Aussie Music Royalty. This version with John's arrangement was definately an Aussie classic. The original up tempo version was classic Beatles hit.. The lyrics of this song is pretty much the story of John's journey. He was a teen idol on the 60's and king of pop for 5 consecutive years in the 60's and 70's. He was on top of the world. He fell out of favour in the later 70's through poor management making him sing all the wrong kinds of music.. He was dead broke with a young family, and he realised he actually did need help... long story short he got the help he needed in the form of his new manager (who ended up being his best freind) and who morgaged his own home to produce Farnseys new more contemporary rock/pop best selling hit album Whispering Jack. And by 1986 he was back on top and never looked back. He has always been the most humble and genuine man who has the heart of pretty much every Aussie in his hands. Check out his most famous song You're the Voice ...from this same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. ❤
Yes, the 'h' in Farnham is silent. John started his career as a teenager in the mid 60's, as a teen pop idol winning multiple 'King of Pop' titles; he has had hits in five decades, and has become one of Australia's top adult entertainers. John is capable of singing most genres, and has performed with other Australian and international artists; he sang a romantic ballad with his great friend Olivia Newton John performing Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert, also with Jimmy Barnes(From Cold Chisel) singing When Something is Wrong With My Baby from Jimmy's Soul Deep concert with Johnny Diesel(Jimmy's brother-in-law) on guitar.
If you get the chance, check out Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham " When something is wrong with my baby " The live vision are outstanding Enjoy cheers thanks🤠
It’s an old Beatles song for their movie’Help!’ and it was just a fast upbeat song when it came out when I was a tween. I never really considered the deep meaning of the lyrics, or the emotional effect of the music until I heard John Farnham’s version. Now that I know of his struggles to cut through the music industry gatekeepers & how his manager & friend put up his home as collateral to get the Whispering Jack album released, the words of the song - especially ‘ I do appreciate you being ‘round …’ - are so meaningful to me in my late 60s.
Yes, you are correct about the lyrics. Youth gives you unwarranted bravado and life experience can make you more unsure. This song is absolutely something that resonates differently over time. "Playing to Win" from this concert would be great thank you.
@@stevarge John Farnham released this song on a record in July 1980, John Lennon was killed in December 1980. So there is every chance he heard it before the grave.
It's pronounced Farnam. He is our Australian National treasure. He has been singing here for over 50 years. Have a listen to John with the Melbourne Symphony orchestra singing You're the Voice. Over here John is known as The Voice.
Have subbed for this. John Farnham or Farnsey as he's lovingly called in Australia, is quite simply, the best singer on this planet. He's sung with Celine Dion, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones just to name a few, and they all bow to his voice. He is also one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. You'll never hear an Aussie say a bad word about him. More Aussie content please. Try Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel, Inxs,
As of the beginning of August, John Farnham has ad a number 1 record in 7 consecutive decades. Is there ANYONE else that can say that? The man is "Australia's Living Legend".
It's Farnam . Also John sang this after a 1 1/2 hour concert. Here he is simply known as the " The Voice". the whole concert especially the joy of the orchestra is awesome. This is John's version of this Beatles classic. In answer to your question when I was young I was bullet proof not so now. He goes on for more and is a HUGE star in Australia. Check out " You'er the Voice" equally inspiring.
When The War Is Over and Gethsemene are what I show to people and then say “SEE?!”, and Burn for You, Please Don’t Ask Me with ONJ and Amazing Grace with Venetta and Marty are what I listen to when I need to connect as a vocalist.
As 40 year old going on 41 this year in October and Australia glad people are doing reaction to music that was always on the radio in my house all the time having Farnsy and Barnesy but my family had all types music going so I grew up listen even 60' and 70's music too my Brother's had things like Green Day going, Smashing Pumpkins, Kiss just to name a few. My parents had Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Frank Sinatra which also pat of the Rat Pack, Beetles, Elvis, John Williams, Slim Dusty, Doris Day, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers that just to name a few that I grew up with.
Hi there. It's John Farnham with a silent 'H'. I was at that Concert in fact every concert, he is the best Aussie rocker around, love him & miss him not singing😃❤️🤗🤗✌️🐨🦘🇦🇺
You're right, it's pronounced Farn-m. John is an Aussie legend and we love him. He's now 74 years old and until very recently was still singing, with this Voice. He is known as The Voice here. He can sing any genre, rock, classical, ballads etc. He's unique and as fine a singer as any in the world, better than most.
Good question - I knew this from the Beatles, but was so young. JF's cover came when I was an adult, and yes, resonated on a level - adults have highs and lows - there are times we want to scream 'please. please help me'
Hi Paul. Cant sleep so listening to some John and this version of Help is my absolute favourite you can see why so many of us just love him ❤🎉😂 True lyrics but the Beatles sang it as a fast pop song but John Lennon said it should have been sung like John Farnhams so when we were young it was a pop song. 😍
He should have been an international star. As you’ll see from the comments already, there’s much to discover about his musical catalog and you’re not the first to not recognise the Beatles classic he reinvented here. Yes I was at this concert and the original lyrics reexpressed in this way came to life from here on. Glad you enjoyed it. Go check out out his track with Jimmy Barnes and Johnny Diesel, “ when something is wrong with my baby”
John is now 74 years young andrevovering from cancer of the jaw. He is nowsinging a bit at home. At 70 he sounded the sae as now. He is the best snd most brilliant and humble. 🙏🙏🙏
You should watch him sing "The Voice" - which is what we call him... and then you should watch him with Olivia Newton John (grease) Celine Dion, Anthony Warlow, Jimmy Barnes etc... Fabulous!
Farn- em is the correct pronunciation, but Aussies all have nicknames his is Farnsey, or Whispering Jack or The Voice . John is an Australian national treasure who has been entertaining us since the sixties. I was 19 when the Beatles released this song in 1965 and I can tell you I thought nothing about the lyrics which were played with more bounce and speed as the opening song on their movie of the same name . By the time Farnsey covered it I was a married man with a mortgage and my daughter on the way so I didn't have time for lyric analyses . It's only now with social media " discovering " John's undeniable talent and that I'm as old as dirt as my disinherited granddaughter( just joking of course) tells everyone, that I can contemplate the songs meaning . anyone who has offered me help over the years has been thanked , which is obviously the correct way to respond to someone's kindness and ive excepted such help as needed .
Can I suggest that you listen to John singing ‘It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll’ an AC/DC cover from the same concert as this one.
John can sing anything and he’s nickname is the voice. He’s been around since the 60’s and in 1969 was voted king of pop which he won for 5 consecutive years. The boomer generation seem to know him best for Sadie the cleaning lady 😂 but he wanted to break away from his old image and reinvented himself moving forward with the times. Super down to earth bloke who is always up for a joke and a laugh.
Originally a Beatles song from 1964 but John Farnham in 1980 took John Lennon’s heartfelt lyrics and changed music I think from a minor to a major key . John Farnham’s rearrangement was a massive hit for John in Australia in 1980 it was released 5 months before John Lennon was killed. John Farnham said in an interview that apparently John Lennon listened to Farnham’s version but unfortunately John Farnham never received any feedback while John Lennon was still alive . But Paul McCartney has given John Farnham’s version much praise . He once said that The Beatles was obligated to make the lyrically deep song Beatle ish pop which frustrated them especially John Lennon because it was his first song he wrote self reflecting . John Farnham’s version of Help captures the true lyrical depth that the Beatles failed to do .
John is an Australian legend mate. Watch John sing a duet with the world famous Australian singer Olivia Newton John, and God bless her soul. Olivia and John grew up together in the crazy world of live music and hit singles, but somehow Olivia hit a nerve in the American music industry, then became one of the biggest stars in the music scene. John stayed in Australia because he was always a family man and he decided to stay as close as he could to his 2 young sons and his wife. So John Farnham was ours, Australian’s totally love John and he is the best vocalist I have ever seen and heard. He is fricken amazing PAUL. I’m a 63 year old Australian man who has seen John perform 4 times in his unbelievable concerts. John is amazing man 👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘
Farnham as in Britain is pronounced 'FARNEM' He was gorgeous back then. He is an old man now. BTW Ham is derived from the old English 'Hom' meaning home, village, settlement farm etc
John is one of those singers who can sing anything you throw at him. Check out John and jimmy barnes singing, when something is wrong with my baby. ua-cam.com/video/AU_bCchDWF4/v-deo.html Jimmy is also an amazing singer
Interesting that you say about looking back with less assurance because this song was written by John Lennon when he was in his early twenties. The Beatles were at the height of their fame and Beatlemania had made their lives more restricted. It was the title track from their movie Help. The Beatles sang it at a much livelier pace and John Farnham rearranged it to this slower pace more in keeping with the lyrics.
It was certainly how John Lennon envisioned the song being sung however the producers pressured them to speed it up because it was more in line with the vibe of the movie it was written for. Deep Purple were the first band to slow it down again but yes John certainly made it his own.
It's funny how often people say...."Oh they sound like so & so" or "they remind me of..." With John Farnham "sounding" like Bon Jovi....reality is - Farnham was performing with bands from the time Bon Jovi was 2 years old, so to us Aussies it's the reverse......Bon Jovi sounds like John Farnham
When John was young, he was King of the Pops in Australia, then no-one wanted to know him, he re-invented himself as a rock singer but still no-one would sign him so his great mate the late Glen Wheatley put everything he had under mortgage to finance John, he came out with You're the Voice, a smash hit world wide, the rest is history, so yes John, when he was Johnny, did not need any help, but later he did so this is an appropriate song for him.
And all that was crime he should always have been a superstar and taken on as one just goes to show how biased or corrupt some music execs were back in the day to not see his full potential from the get go especially with songs like One it's awesome
Farnham is pronounced Farn am - the H is silent. There is reaction list for John Farnham. John is best served LIVE. John is known in Australia as "The Voice". You're the Voice - (LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) - same concert Long way to the top - (LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) - same concert Burn for you. Please Don't Ask Me - John Farnham and Olivia Newton John LIVE Another singer from Australia is Jimmy Barnes. 2 of his best are Khe Sanh, Working class man. I still call Australia Home - Qantas. Released around 2 ago. It will make the hair on your arms stand up.
Say his name as one word IE: John Farnham not John Farn-ham so the way you said it the second time is right. Also John is like our favourite son here in Australia. Another song you might like to look at would be “When something is wrong with my baby” it has John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes and Johnny Diesel they are all great Aussie’s. Also look at Ian Moss a great singer song writer as well in a band called Cold chisel Ian and Jimmy were both in that band. Cheers take care also I have met all of these blokes and they are great blokes.
Top 3. 🍻
Best live vocal ever. This guy can sing every genre, from opera to driving rock.

There's more than 3 decades worth of music, he started out in 1967.

Your second last pronunciation of Farnham (Farnm) was spot on.
This was an encore after a 2 1/2 hour show and his voice was still amazing. John Lennon said this was his favourite cover of all Beatle songs
From the grave?
@@stevargeJohn had sung this his way before John L was sadly disposed of by the system.
The amazing thing is that there was another encore after this!
@@stevarge John Farnham released this song on a record in July 1980, John Lennon was killed in December 1980. So there is every chance he heard it before the grave.
@@stevarge In the depths of youtube theree is a version of Lennon himself tinkering with this song at a much slower pace than The Beatles version
He is amazing. Wish I had known about him when I was in Australia during that
time. It has taken UA-cam to appreciate and share his talent.
Great singer, wonderful human.
Seriously you just blew my mind! I was at this concert as a kid, I felt the emotion’s in the room but didn’t understand it until hearing it again
Aussies like me who get just about every single Farnham reaction recommended to them shout out in the comments, spread the love!
One of my favourite Beatles songs and one of my favourite covers of a Beatles song.
It's pronounced Farnam. He is our Australian National treasure. He has been singing here for over 50 years. Have a listen to John with the Melbourne Symphony orchestra singing You're the Voice. Over here John is known as The Voice.
Thank you for appreciating our beautiful John Farnham
Have subbed for this. John Farnham or Farnsey as he's lovingly called in Australia, is quite simply, the best singer on this planet. He's sung with Celine Dion, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Tom Jones just to name a few, and they all bow to his voice. He is also one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. You'll never hear an Aussie say a bad word about him. More Aussie content please. Try Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel, Inxs,
Yes! Exactly! Spot on!
I am pretty sure I was at this concert. I only wish I had his voice, amazing vocal range and he's still on my play lists.
It's a Beatle song and John put his interpretation on it by singing it as a ballad. John Farnham is a super star in Oz ❤❤
As of the beginning of August, John Farnham has ad a number 1 record in 7 consecutive decades. Is there ANYONE else that can say that? The man is "Australia's Living Legend".
Aussie bloody legend!
It was my exact reaction you described hearing it older was in tears when i heard it older
It’s always exciting when a reactor reacts to John Farnham for the first time. I always know they will be blown away
John is a national treasure here in Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
Our wonderful John is the most celebrated and adored artist here in Australia 💐💕
Hi there. It's John Farnham with a silent 'H'. I was at that Concert in fact every concert, he is the best Aussie rocker around, love him & miss him not singing😃❤️🤗🤗✌️🐨🦘🇦🇺
This is my favorite version of the Beatles song HELP. John is an amazing singer!
John is amazing.
Friggin awesome
He did a great adaptation of it indeed! 😊
New video is up
@TeacherPaulReacts In the Chain Reaction concert he sang the original Help dancing round the stage followed by this - absolutely incredible 👏🏻 ❤️
Hi Paul. Just watched this again. What a voice you said and now your first reaction to Playing to Win has popped up 😂😂
He should have been an international star.

Welcome to the rabbit hole that is John's music.
The beginning for you of our Aussie legend!!!!!!
John is now 74 years young andrevovering from cancer of the jaw. He is nowsinging a bit at home. At 70 he sounded the sae as now. He is the best snd most brilliant and humble. 🙏🙏🙏
World Class !
You should watch him sing "The Voice" - which is what we call him... and then you should watch him with Olivia Newton John (grease) Celine Dion, Anthony Warlow, Jimmy Barnes etc... Fabulous!
The Voice of the world….
An Aussie Legend
Can I suggest that you listen to John singing ‘It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll’ an AC/DC cover from the same concert as this one.
John can sing anything and he’s nickname is the voice.
He’s been around since the 60’s and in 1969 was voted king of pop which he won for 5 consecutive years. The boomer generation seem to know him best for Sadie the cleaning lady 😂 but he wanted to break away from his old image and reinvented himself moving forward with the times.
Super down to earth bloke who is always up for a joke and a laugh.
The GOAT
John is amazing man 👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘
Farnesy will do it! (Farnum)
Farnham as in Britain is pronounced 'FARNEM' He was gorgeous back then. He is an old man now. BTW Ham is derived from the old English 'Hom' meaning home, village, settlement farm etc
Bon Jovi could only dream of singing at this level
It’s a song written and sung by the beetles.
have you not heard of the Beatles. This is their song, but they sang it with tempo.
john farnham "you're the voice "( same concert)
John is one of those singers who can sing anything you throw at him. Check out John and jimmy barnes singing, when something is wrong with my baby. ua-cam.com/video/AU_bCchDWF4/v-deo.html
Jimmy is also an amazing singer
Oh is is one of the best
You have just open the pandoras box. He is definetly one of the best male singers of all time and music genre. Maby thats why he is called the voice ❤
Check out The Voice and also his duet with Anthony Warlow
It's funny how often people say...."Oh they sound like so & so" or "they remind me of..."
With John Farnham "sounding" like Bon Jovi....reality is - Farnham was performing with bands from the time Bon Jovi was 2 years old, so to us Aussies it's the reverse......Bon Jovi sounds like John Farnham
Oooooooh .. it’s James Gandolfini ! Checking out Johno.
All this from a slice of gabagool?
This is originally a Beatles song
Try "When Something is Wrong with my Baby" LIVE by Jimmy Barnes & John Farnham. Or what we call Barnsey & Farnsey
Don't pronounce the "H" mate. You should react to his signature song "You're The Voice" from the same concert.
His last name is pronounced "Farn-em"..
It's a John Lennon song so yep it's a classic
This is the encore after a 2 hour show.
"Help" is a Beatles classic. The h in his name is silent.
If you really want to appreciate what a good job John Farnham did with this song, compare it to the original 'Help' by The Beatles.....
Farn’m is the correct pronunciation.
lol...one if the Beatles biggest hits
Aussie legend 👏
John Lennon once said that 'This is how the song 'Help", was meant to be sung...
Welcome to the John Farnham Rabbit hole
Hi - its pronounced like Farnam (no h said) also Melbourne is pronounce here like Melbun
and he started out as plumber
👍
Farnham is pronounced Farn am - the H is silent.
There is reaction list for John Farnham. John is best served LIVE. John is known in Australia as "The Voice".
You're the Voice - (LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) - same concert
Long way to the top - (LIVE with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) - same concert
Burn for you.
Please Don't Ask Me - John Farnham and Olivia Newton John LIVE
Another singer from Australia is Jimmy Barnes.
Don't tell me, you didn't recognize "HELP", by the Beatles?
Now watch your the voice, same concert, help was th encore
You’re in for ahellava talent ride…enjoy the rabbit hole ❤❤❤
