You need to buy a pipe cutter. They’re also available at a hardware store. They make it very easy to do even cuts of pipe. No sawing required!

A very good suggestion Maria! I do have one but mine was a little too big for this size tubing.

@@JulessaScofieldMetalsmith Hmm. Mine is adjustable. I've even used it on silver tube less than 1/4 inch in diameter (not recommended, by the way). I make a lot of air chased copper cuffs out of pipe and it takes less than a minute to cut off a suitable length. If you cut a lot of tube, I really recommend shopping around for one that adjusts as necessary. Good video, by the way.

Have you ever had one of those days (in my case weeks) when no matter how long you filed and sanded your edges are never level? You're one of the fastest cutters I've watched and straight as well :) I'm also having difficulty with my silver soldering- I'm going to blame it on my lack of a decent torch- oh so much to buy and so little time to buy it! Good video! That would make a good match holder for my camping gear.

It seems like I’ll go a long time and think “Wow! This isn’t so hard!” Then BAM, the bench gods laugh and say, “really!!??” Even after 16 years of practice and many successful days, I get hit with days of “what the heck?!” Just a little taste of humble pie to keep you from getting an inflated head. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my saw for years and I finally gave up trying to be the boss - now it seems we have an understanding - I do as the saw directs 😜 Seriously, this is a craft that has kept me curious, excited, frustrated, and mentally challenged and is probably the reason I keep doing it. That feeling you get when it looks just like you imagined it in your head a thousand times can’t be beat! We all must be a little nuts to love playing with tools and 🔥. Keep plugging along, it does eventually start to fall into place.

@@JulessaScofieldMetalsmith I feel your pain and look forward to the joy of having everything (something) fall into place :)

Thank you very much for sharing! Just one small question: how did you make that insert perfectly round after soldering it?

Hello! I used a round ring mandrel to reshape the piece to fit the inside of the top to get it as round as I could and then made sure it had a snug fit, or fit with a little friction. By doing that, I was able to finish making it match the roundness of the outer wall.

Hi! The top of the tool you are using measures the inside diameter of the tube. Flip it over and insert it into the tube. Then roll the dial on the caliper until the prongs touch the inside walls of the tube. Then read the measurement.
