I love how you are so honest about why you were looking for another pattern when you had the perfect one. I think a lot of knitters do this at least once. I know I have stayed away from patterns because I thought it was too hard and then when I did it I was like why did I put that off for so long. I like your tips and tricks. I’m going to use the different color stitch markers for a capelet I’m knitting right now. Two of the wedges require me to Purl every other row but I get in groove and don’t realize that wedge was the one I had to Purl. I’m hoping changing the color stitch marker will remind me.

I don't even know how to measure and didn't know there were so many different knitting stitches there were but have learned a few o them. I'm looking to make a lace table runner for my dining room which we just remodeled and want to look kinda country and a little victorian, my house was built in 1864, so I think this old dog is ready to learn some new tricks.
I love stitch markers!!! Both the light bulb and the itty bitty round plastic ones.... I use the light bulbs for counting rows and the plastic ones for marking on my needle, because they're not dangly and don't get in the way...... I think I got a divided box of about 1,200 light bulb markers and mini safety pins for about $8 on Amazon, I definitely did a happy dance!!!.... Update, I checked & the same one is $12.99 now, but STILL a great deal...

Absolutely agree with everything you said here Caleb! . Those coloured bulb stitch markers are my fav as they do not “pull” on the stitches as well as being extremely light weight. I’ve been stalling with starting my summer sweater that includes cables and colourwork - having angst about the time/mental commitment. Now let me take a page out of your book “and get out of my own way” and start work! But first… I need to buy some summer yarn. 😝

OMG this video xouls not have come at a better time. I purchased a kit for a garment that has a lace insert on the side and am foing to move it to the back. I've never knitted a garment. I was decided I would knit a sock pattern before I started this doe all the reasons you gave. Wish me luck
The garment is from ravelery and called Cascata t-shirt by Rosarios 4. I was in a yarn shop and she had made it and put a kit together. Oh love the sock pattern from Earthtone girl you suggested.
As simple as it sounds, that first tip is SO good! Charts scare the life out life out of me because I know I already mess up cables in patterns with only 4-5 cables at all. Definitely gonna try out that tip & thanks for another great video!

You got this! I do that when a project makes me nervous too (and I think it’s so necessary sometimes to take a breather), but you can absolutely do it and you’ll do great when you pick it back up!

These are great tips. Thanks for sharing! I normally get to the end of my row and find out I've messed up somewhere and have to backtrack to figure out what happened. These will help me not clown the pattern
I am doing the same thing right now with a cowl pattern! It’s a super easy pattern but I use a loom so I’m soooo intimidated by trying to convert a knitting pattern to a loom pattern. There are so many letters that stand for crazy things! I’m going to try the swatch suggestion you made in your beginner video. Thanks so much!

I have not worked on charts until recently but stay with a simple knit or purl repeat style. The advice is greatly appreciated and I look forward to expanding my comfort in knitting
I also use stitch markers when making a lot of increases. I pick a number that correlates to the increase (say 21 for seven k2, M1L) and every time I increase, I figure out how many stitches should be between those markers and check each set before I move on. It goes a bit slowly but not nearly as slowly as tinking.
I do something similar when I am working raglan increases on a sweater! Definitely can take time, but sooo much less than sinking... you are right! Thanks for sharing your process :-)
Do you or anyone in this thread, have suggestions on how to keep track when your chart has multiple motifs/patterns with different row counts? For example 2 chart sweater with 8 panels and each panel pattern has a different number of row repeats....
I do the exact same thing with colored stitch markers for both charts and pattern changes.
