This is the first Gambia Professional Ram Show Gampras nationwide Ladoum presentation to local farmers across the country.
The Ladoum sheep, known as the “king of sheep” in the sub-region, is considered a mark of prestige and a status symbol in the African country, which can cost up to 1.3 million dalasis.
It originated around the 1970s as a hybrid between a Mauritanian and a Malian breed. Known for their good looks, tall stature, prominent muzzles, and curved horns, they can weigh up to 181k and measure four feet in height.
However, the event was meant to promote sheep breeding and to reduce the importation of sheep in the Gambia.
Despite the cost and beauty, The GampRas association has presented six Ladoum breeds to farmers across the country to spread the Ladoum breed in the country.

Ladoum sheep breeding has several functions such as income generation, passion, and self-consumption due to their fast-growing traits. Therefore, with rigorous scientific supervision, this breed could serve as a basis for improving the size of our farm animals and significantly contribute to increasing sheep production through crossbreeding.
