  • Together We is a partnership between the US State Department and the East-West Center to gather stories and data on recent and ongoing human capital development collaborations. The project focused on joint efforts in education, public health, and economic innovation by the US and eight Southeast Asian and Pacific nations: Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Vanuatu.
With information and communications technology (ICT) at the forefront of people’s minds, a group of Peace Corps Vanuatu staff members and volunteers formed a technology committee in 2014 to assess which groups need attention in this burgeoning field.
They realized that women - especially from rural areas - were underrepresented in the field and concluded that adolescent girls (aged 9-14) needed ICT training.
Hear from a participant and staff as they talk about the impact SMART Sistas has had. #TogetherWe Advance Girls in Tech
