    Your videos of cleaning out the Farm House is such a great example of the absolute horror of our consumer culture. Most of us will leave huge amounts of stuff behind after out death, and most of the stuff will simply be trash. That is sad and horribly wasteful.

    Might be able to put down carpet or carpet tile squares to turn it into one or two bedrooms and a lounge room . To rent or to maybe help increase sale price if you sell it one day. Would need additional shed with toilet, shower laundry, and additional kitchen sink. If additional plumbing was not desired a roof extension or awning to extend roof outwards would help increase the usable space and hopefully make it look a bit more impressive. Seems that you got a good buy. (Congratulations).

    • @canwejustnot
      @canwejustnot 2 дні тому

      You'd need to redo the whole structure of the garage for that. The roof is sagging in the middle. And it's not moisture proof, that + having to clean the carpet every time a new person rents the space + the house being close to the sea, so probably lots of sand = carpet sounds like a recipe for disaster.

    • @brettcrawford8878

    This is truly lot of trash, but you got an eye for the treasures not to miss them. The oil probably was used to oil the wood outside, for terrace or outerior wood. Though the collectible cards and action figures bring most money I'd also save the pottery and old laquer boxes as well, als they are traditional japanese handcarft and maybe somewhat cultural valuable. Maybe some museums are also interested.
    It is extremely interesting to watch, but this is also like somones life, you just stumble through, you know. So I'm happy that you do this with care and not throw everything away. As an upcycling enthusiast I'd also keep the wood from the furniture and build some gardening raised beds and garden furniture out of this.

    That spider reminds me of my stay in Japan, and also this story.
    I was walking down a road in the suburbs of Osaka, with no one around me.
    There were trees planted along the sidewalk, like 50 meters between each trees. The trees were not tall, like 2 meters, and were apparently the nest for one of the biggest spider i've ever seen in my life.
    While walking, I just passed one tree and was looking right ahead, in the direction of the next one. From that distance, I noticed what I thought was a small bird climbing down the trunk in a really weird way. From the distance, I'd say this was probably something like 10~15cm wide, and black.. As I came closer, it went from weird to horrifying. It was moving in a bizarre, jerky way. I saw the "bird" hit the ground and then proceed to cross the road, fortunately in the opposite direction I was coming from. It was literally jumping like in this video. I realized at this moment it was a spider, not a bird. I felt so bad that I stopped for a while, and made a detour just to avoid the tree where this monstrosity came from. I was in the center of a huge city, and yet I was the lone witness of this "incident".
    I never forgot that story. Until this very day,
    I keep a good distance between me and trees whenever I'm in Japan.

    The incongruence between the cost to dispose of things while also preferring new things is a challenging thing to resolve. We usually think that when something gets expensive to dispose of, we’ll start to make quality-oriented choices, develop a reuse/repurpose/recycle economy to lower the disposal costs, or just buy less stuff. However I don’t see much difference between the behaviors of Japanese and Americans in this regard-we’re all brain washed by consumerism, regardless of cost or space.

If it was mine, I would try to keep the antiques and use them to furnish the house in a mix with modern amenities, keeping the beauty of the old with the comfort of the new. I would also keep some of the Antwort, tableware and kimono for decoration. The rest I would sell or gift to people that are able to appreciate or recycle it.
