Kudos to you. Patients should be able to talk with the pathologist and see their slides. It took me two months to be able to view my slides of my breast cancer. I am not just a patient I was a cytotechnologist and was well equipped to review my slides.

We agree that patients to have access to their pathology slides. Having the opportunity to review one's own slides can contribute to a better understanding of one's health and treatment plan. Thank you for watching.

I did find out my diagnosis over my chart. My surgical pathology report mentioned lymphnode vascular invasion. Those three words in a sentence together were very scary for someone who knows nothing about mirco biology. It only raised my anxiety level. So my only complaint about online portals is I wish they wouldn't post test/scan results on a Friday evening when the news is just stirring in your head all weekend before you can speak with your provider. My cousin is an RN with extensive medical background.
When she was going through through her cancer treatments she stopped looking at test results. As she explained I'm a nurse that has never worked in the oncology field. I really think it comes down to acceptance, trust in your doctors and the will power to not look at a report that most people will misunderstand.
On the upside I do like having all my records accessible on one site. This is a great topic to speak about. Thank you

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's understandable how certain medical terminology, especially when discovered online without proper context, can increase anxiety levels. Your cousin's perspective on acceptance, trust, and the willpower to avoid looking at reports is insightful. It emphasizes the importance of finding a balance that works for each individual.

I found out that I had breast cancer by reading my biopsy results in my portal. I was shocked and was upset to have found out that way! I worked in the medical field for over 35 years, and things were done very differently back in the day. There are definitely ups and downs with new ways of sharing medical information through patients portal. Very good podcast, thank you so much!!

We appreciate your feedback and understand the mixed feelings associated with discovering your breast cancer diagnosis through the portal. The evolution in how medical information is shared indeed brings both benefits and challenges. Thank you for watching.

I found out about my second cancer from a nurse navigator who after she identified herself said, “You have cancer.” I would have rather been able to read the report on the portal. This woman had no compassion at all.

There are upsides and downsides that I have experienced with this Act. The good side is that the results, documentation, labs, etc. are available as soon as 10-15 minutes of a lab draw for example. Doctors that may not have access to results of their patients are able to obtain results using the “care everywhere” icon. Downsides are (at least in my experience) is results of negative results. For example my biopsy results were able to be reviewed by me one day before the surgeon called me. Thankfully, I am an emergency nurse and can read and understand most of the results and have access to physicians that can describe it to me. For the layperson, it can be scary. Also, how I use it at work it can be difficult because nurses draw labs or order radiology tests before seeing a doctor by using protocols. The patients will “diagnose” themselves and start screaming at us that they are going to die. Another issue is that patients come in get labs, radiology and leave because they feel that the results are okay. Patients can also read our triage notes that nurses write upon the patients first arrival to the department.

Thank you for sharing your perspective with the Yerbba community. It's clear that there are advantages in terms of efficiency and accessibility, especially for healthcare professionals. However, as you mention and as we discuss in this podcast, the rapid availability of results can also present challenges, particularly for patients who may interpret the information without proper context and understanding.

    Hello .
I also have a question and I would be very happy if you could answer me. Last year I had breast cancer .. and I started sports but I don't know if it is good to take creatine supplement…..?

The evidence on creatine in improving sports performance is mixed. It would be prudent to discuss your interest in creatine with your medical team. Thank you for watching.
