Girlz, Endless Bummer, High as a Kite, Beginning of the End, Thank You and Good Night and Iambic Pentameter. I would do anything to see something like that.
Keep Fishin’ is a fun song, but it’s not an epic guitar solo song imo. Neither is High as a Kite but I’d love to see it live again, so I’ll sign off on that one. :P
Love Make Believe. When it came out Haunt You Every Day I thought it was an ok song until I saw them play it live and it became one of my favorites instantly.
I remember the days of being obsessed with how much of THE PAIN Rivers was dealing with and loving this song because of it. Now I identify way more with Rivers learning to be creative without relying on peak experience. Shout outs to my boy Zeep
After listening to make believe, i don't understand why tf it's getting hate. Some songs on there are genuinely some of the most beautiful piece of music i'ved ever listen to. So slept on due to it's reputation
Honestly, it wasn't til the late 10s did anyone truly claim to dislike the album. It was never considered a bad album by their fanbase at any point before that. I think it's due to the zoomers. anyone who sleeps on it due to a trend, doesn't deserve to hear it anyway hahaha
Make Believe was my first Weezer album. It’s far from their best but there are some good songs and you can begin to see Rivers returning to more personal songwriting again.
Truly a great album. This is such a pity. Hold me. The damage in your heart. Pardon me. The other way. And of course haunt you every day. Made an impact in my life for sure. Loved it from day one. Only berverly hills and we are all on drugs could have been left off.. And the production could have been a bit more raw. But I love it anyway.
Great video, although I do disagree with the "all minor key songs sound sad" point. For example, I listen to a lot of drum and bass, which is almost always written in a minor key, but you would never consider them sad songs. Even within rock, songs like No One Knows or The Pretender don't particularly evoke sadness. It's always about context with timbre, speed and lyrics to really capture sadness.
for years ive always felt a little silly for actually considering make believe as one of my favorites off their discography, it really felt like people never made it to the end to haunt you everyday
Guys, I have to tell the truth, I personally love this song, but I can't listen to it, I feel so depressed that it's hard for me to recover, it makes me feel so sad. This video is great, like your analysis. Good job.
I grew up listening to Make Believe and the Blue and Green album, and I had no idea people hated MB until your video. But yeah this song is pretty good
Make believe is my favorite Weezer album, but I always called it the black album and now I get confused when trying to describe my favorite Weezer album
i think youve said it in an earlier video, but i recall that part of the cause of rivers' depression, and then this song was Elliott Smith's death, or how Elliott's girlfriend felt after he died. it could be completley false but i feel like i remember you saying that
One huge difference between the demo and final is that, in the demo version, the second to last chord in the progression is a diminished. That, along with the sound of the guitars and the less overdone vocals, makes the demo version much, much more powerful for me. But that’s just my view.
I personally didn't like Make Believe, but I will stand by the fact that this song is in my Top 5 Favorite Weezer Songs and the single most underrated song in their discography. Nothing but pure and absolute perfection.
Haunt You is one of my favorite Weezer Songs, period, absolutely love it, so I’m thrilled to see you come back to Make Believe and cover this track specifically!
Holy shit Mom I'm in the video This was very awesome, it really gave me some new insight into the meaning of this song, especially considering the lyrics which had always puzzled me a bit. I feel like the comparison between the demo and the final version are similar to Mad World by Tears for Fears and Mad World by Gary Jules: they are both the same song, but the structural differences are what give them both a completely different feeling from each other. The demo for HYED is neat but in the end the Make Believe version just wins for me.
Just a few days ago I rewatched the make believe video wondering if this video was in the works. Very well said about the song. I love both the final cut of this song as well as the demo, but to me the MB version just hits a nerve when you hear it, I hear more pain in the lyrics, and as sad as it is to say it, that's what makes it great. Since the video came out on the downfall of weezer ive given Make Believe so many new listens, and where it used to be my absolute bottom of the list album, I appreciate it more minus about 2 or 3 songs. I felt this song deserved its own spotlight , and I'm glad this video was made.
Make Believe is one of my favorite albums from their catalogue, I honestly don't care if people say it's the worst album. Haunt You Everyday is also on my top list of favorite Weezer songs so seeing you talk about it in detail makes me feel glee inside. Such an amazing video. Keep up the great work dude!

the more time i spend time listening to this album over the masterpiece “Maladroit” I love it more. Make Believe is a refined pinkerton. Haunt You Every Day is just so painful and feels like a gut punch. Thank you for your new perspective on the song. I usually listen to it the way I listen to “Hello It’s me”

Weezer was my first fav band and one of the first bands I've ever heard as a baby, shortly after blue/sweater song released. I've literally spent my whole life/their whole career listening to them. I'm the same man, I can't picture myself ever disliking or not listening to a Weezer album.
Rivers is a strange cat. You gotta hang in there sometimes to pick up what he is putting down. But he's still got it. The mother/silent child line in iambic pentameter... chefs kiss.
I’m the same way. I’m usually on the fence when new records come out but then the weez truly shines through and they just rock. Much of the catalog is so genuine, and the rest that doesn’t sound as genuine is still entertaining or just goofy enough to keep listening to.
First, this video is great. This was my first time listening to this song and it's absolutely great musically speaking and the solo is amazing but there is something I would like to comment about the lyrics. I'm getting to know Rivers' lyrics and I have a theory about this one. I think Cuomo intentionally reversed the roles. I feel a lot of pain in the lyrics and in my opinion was him who was left (although it does not necessarily have to be him) I think the girl is walking away and Rivers is letting her know that "she is just insane" for leaving him and she will haunt him every day..."you're going to haunt me every day"....walking on your own, leaving me behind". Excellent job Marc. I really enjoy all your videos.
OMG, I love this song, I can feel so much pain in the lyrics, but the result in both the demo and in this version is amazing. Thank you Marc for this video.
