Legion are exactly that FOREIGNERS. What's more the French have the nerve to call it the French Foreign Legion. What is wrong with these people, why can't they use their own Frenchmen in this elite force. I think I already know the answer to that question do0n't you. Anyway the foreign men of the legion always display brilliantly.

Not elite force. FFL is made of regular regiments of French Army...same pay, weapons. They obviously have a unique history and a good reputation as fighters but they aren't categorized at "special forces" or "commandos," if that's what you mean.

@@teller1290 You are obviously reading a different history than I am my friend but I don't feel the need to go into a long drawn out discussion or explanation. Enough to say the French seem to be experts at giving different explanations to suit the time or conditions. Like the liberation of Paris in 1944, what a joke. So lets stick with the KNOWN facts. The Foreign Legion is drawn from non French volunteers. The only French men allowed into the legion work in administration roles, nor combat units. Be Scottish by birth, and ex military by choice I would be very unhappy if our PROUD Scottish regiments had to recruit foreign soldiers to do the job British soldiers should be doing. Long live the great Foreign Legion, but it is certainly not French.

@@jimhanna9251 I wasn't arguing that they were French. I simply pointed out that they are regular troops (look up France's 6th Light Armored Brigade line and block chart to see various FFL regiments) not what most would associate your choice of words ("elite") with.
Also Legion numbers about 8,000 soldiers including training and admin regiments. It's a small portion of even this peacetime French Army.
The French military does have a Rapid Deployment Force of 11th Airborne Division and 9th Marine Division. 1/6 of that overall force is the FFL parachute regiment, 2REP. That's the only one of FFL's regiments that have association with elite force. There is an elite commando - type force that is populated by volunteers largely from this Rapid Deployment Force.
And I assume it's been called the FRENCH Foreign Legion because France pays, arms, feeds, houses, transports, offers citizenship to foreigners who are contracted to carry out training, readiness and combat missions under French command...military and civilian. Besides, that the officers are French citizens by law and French is the required language. And they're based in France or a French protectorate. What else besides French should they be called?

The most boring parade, not like the Chinese PLA.

La légion étrangère a un pas plus lent pour le défilé, que l'armée régulière. C'est parait-il pour se faire remarquer avec le kepi blanc.
Je reconnais que quand les chinois defilent, que ça a une sacrée allure.
