Feeling that pain! I just snapped my exhaust bolt! Rust is my enemy! Kroil helps if you can get ahold of it! Great video brother!!! Keep her movin!!!
Worse pain ever 😁.. and I get other peoples pain to deal with 🫣.. never heard of Kroil, probably similar to Penoil which is what I have. But if it doubt get the drill out 🤣👍. Cheers
Dude you Brits and Aussies just work on anything and know your shit. Hell Ya 🤘🏽. Thanks for all your videos.
Cheers Bro 👊. Not all of us wield the spanners. But just finished another similar repair 😂. Queuing up now... Thanks for watching 👍👍
Right on
Curious. do you recomend Anti seize or loc tite? I would think anti seize?
Fantastic job done... Hell of a tough one 👍🏻well done.
Thanks mate, daily jobs for me usually, so when you get a challenge 😁👊
Brilliant Job...and what a great ride the fling was.. 👊
👊 Cheers mate.. and definately was, some tour organiser that is 😉😃
Great job mate! Exhaust studs can get bloody hard 😎👌
One made of goats cheese other made of terminator steel 🤣
@@ALCHEMOTO always the way and the difficult one is the hardest to get too
That was a hell of a job Martin., but you did it in the right way. 👍👏
👍, Cheers Vince. Definately a test that 2nd stud, but you know me.. Love a challenge 😁👊
I use 5/16 UNF x 3/4 brass nuts from the classic car world, which covers the whole thread protruding from the exhaust flange. Stops corrosion of the threads especially on that Btard one on the front which gets all the salt and road grime from the front wheel.
Good call 👍. I replaced my own with stainless straight after bought bike. Still shiny and studs 👊.. worst thing they did using steel on ally threads👍
Looking at ur sportster I'm curious how u mounted ur bags I have 2 with leather straps but just no where to strap them... did you have bag mounts put on if so whats a good one I'm on a 2016 xl1200x . Alo thanks for the stud video I had to replace my exhaust a previous owner put on and a stud was broke. Went with the Vance and hence 2 in 2 out black...
If its the bike I did the studs on with the sidemount saddlebag, the saddlebag straps go around the top tube and swingarm, although some people mount them with cable ties. They can mark the paint though on the swingarm unless you put a clear protective tape on. You can get a bag mount as well, so its personal preference. I took the one off the bronze/brass 48 and just use the bag on sissybar. Glad the vid helped with exhaust stud, they are a pain to drill out straight 👍
Ive got the same problem with the front lower stud to drill out and no clearance with the frame so im going to unbolt the engine from the front mountain and see if I can tilt the engine enough to get the angle to drill.
Always a pain with frame in the way. Hopefully your idea should give you the room 👍. 2 out of 3 will always come out with a welded nut but your heart sinks when that fails and you have to get the drill out 😀.. good luck with yours mate 👍
I’ve got the same problem - hoping an extractor tool is gonna get it out, otherwise I’ll be drilling the sucker out. Absolute pig of a problem.
Drill extension was only tool that cleared the frame.. hope yours pulls easy mate, most I do come out after welding stud, drilling is a pain 😏.👍
Hey brother
I noticed the bycrus Erie sign in your garage.
I'm from Erie Pennsylvania were that company was based out of.
Can't believe it made it all the way to your part of the world.
Would love to know how you came about it.
All the best
Tim
Hi Tim 👊.. to cut a long story short.. My father and Uncle have had R.B cranes for years, owned around 40plus machines and actually own the nameright Ruston Bucyrus, the Erie sign I will have to ask them, but probably came with part of their large parts stock. Thats great having a connection from where you live 👊
So apparantly, the sign was off an Erie machine based at burtonwood air base/ used by U.S forces from 1940 to early 90's.. now a housing estate. The machine was scrapped in 2019 but the sign I have was off that 👍
@@ALCHEMOTO what a small world. U never know. Thanks for responding
Keep the rubber down.
Best to you
Tim
Having a nightmare with mine, Ive drill the stud out with 6.5mm drill bit as you did but cant fit the 5/16th thread tap in 😅😢 any advice?
Actual correct drill size is 6.6mm but not an easy size off the shelf for 5/16 tap. It will cut frim 6.5mm hole. Just a little tight. If your not sure then I would see if can get a 6.6mm drill bit ordered up. You dont want to go 7mm as not enough to give decent thread.
Either way, they are a pain without removing head
I appreciate the advice thank you
@ALCHEMOTO worst ways, i.e. hole is too big etc. Would you recommend a helicoil?
In event of hole too big. Nothing wrong with helicoils as long as also use studlock on new studs, helps to set thread. Ive just had to drill out an engine block on a 36t excavator with a snapped bracket, and gone from 10mm to 12mm bolt size. I do it quite a lot, but with the sporty, you cant go up in stud size, so coiling is only way. To be honest. You would probably get a cleaner thread doing it that way. 👍
Curious. do you recomend Anti seize or loc tite? I would think anti seize?
Loctite on rattly bits. Copper seize on underside where shite gets. 😀👍
Wow looked a right ball ache did that bastard stud ............. but as normal you cracked it mate. Great job well done 👊
Always up for a challenge 😁👊.. If life was easy eh 🫣👊
Same things as just happened to mine, can you fix it 😂
Some are easy.. some are b#*stards 🤣..
@@ALCHEMOTO tell me about it… only wanted to wrap my exhaust. 3 studs came of fine, last one snapped which is the awkward one at the front.
Have tried stud extractor and welding nut onto it. It just won’t budge.
Wow. It is a bastard stud. Thanks for all your troubles. Much appreciated.
Ride on Brother 👊👍😁
