  • Today is day 2 of the prep work @BamaBass on the recreational pond. The significant objective is protecting the fish from the wildlife around the area. The fish caves should do the trick.

    Do you think the fish caves will be enough to protect the bass from the different predators?

      Nope, needs more hideouts

      Not all of them I think, only the smart ones. Bonnie and Clyde managed to survive the backyard pond.

      Not sure. The osprey will have a much better view than in the more opaque bass pond.

    • @PurpleDrac
      @PurpleDrac 6 місяців тому

      I think they will! minus the off chance they hunt in pairs but would take a considerable amount of concentration from the birds and birds are real smart and will do anything for survival. But having more than one cave with two ends each will give the fish substantial amount of hiding and escape routes to make it less likely of being picked off. Just a really nice setup ya got goin on there ed (if you're in the comments) always pleased with the amount of ideas put into there projects just 🧠pure genius! 🎊☺️

    We are big fans of both you and BamaBass! So excited about this second collaboration! Speaking from my own experience with my pond built for wildlife, if he did pond plants, I think they'd be eaten. The deer absolutely decimate my water lilies, pickerel, water willow, bacopa - everything. Whatever it is, they hoover it up!

    I know Bamabass doesn't want pond plants in his bass pond but I think it's going to be inevitable that they spread from here. I'm personally interested to see it and I suspect he'll realise it's no bad thing. He does have a point about his water depth though, so I could be wrong and it might get too packed with lillies.

      If birds use it ,the platform gets the birds approval ,they don't care if it's not natural as long as it works out for them

    I love your content and this entire project... until... you cut a branch off of an old growth tree... 🌳
    Just for decoration (etc...)
    I'm not a tree hugger... but that tree is at least 500 plus years old...
    Make better decisions, please...

    • @GS-zv3qn
      @GS-zv3qn 6 місяців тому

      Live oaks must be long lived if they can reach 500, would be cool if he could count growth rings on limb they used

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for your feedback,
      I wouldn’t have done it if I thought it would harm or damage the tree…..
      I spoke with a Certified Arborist and he confirmed our thoughts that it would be Ok.
      The limb was not just a decoration, it’s an integral part of the functioning of the ecosystem and it will continue to provide a valuable habitat for many years to come.
      Harvesting trees and limbs can be very sustainable when practiced correctly.

    🤦😡 it's NATURE. We invaded their space. 🫤

    • @alexguzman5547
      @alexguzman5547 6 місяців тому

      Both of those water features are MAN MADE in what was previously a field. The fish were INTRODUCED to the pond. They put trackers in most of the fish that they CATCH AND RELEASE.
      Despite the fact that the raptors are taking fish that a large amount of money was spent on, the owners of the property have added structures to encourage the raptors, and haven't taken any steps to eliminate the other predators.
      They are coexisting with the predators in the space that humans created. Maybe think about that before you get the ladder and start climbing on your horse. 😒
