What’s sickening is America tends to play all ‘good and perfect’ when confronting other countries about how they should do the politics, law enforcement, justice, etc. yet they keep turning a blind eye on their own flaws.
Dj --- sorry... America is Not turning a blind eye to this flaw! Most Americans hurt deeply to this injustice and are seeking to call it out and will expect reforms and justice. Whereas, PRC govt responds to protests demanding justice in Hong Kong with more batons and arrests, denying there's an injustice at all !! Not one law suit, not one arrest of a Chinese HK police troop, not one concession.
@Vince Sang You can find inequality/injustice/racism anywhere you go. It’s not only Blacks who received police brutality. I have Asian cousin who received the same treatment from police without due process, he thinks because he’s “coloured” that’s why he was treated as such. This message I saw recently sums it up: “Asians are not a virus” “Hispanics are not illegal” “Black people are not threats” “Muslims are not terrorists” “Native Americans are not savages” But as what I meant, USA has democracy and Hong Kong hasn’t.
The sad thing is, some people used this event to commit crimes such as arson, robbery, and theft. They used it as an excuse to fulfill their own, and not for the injustice that happened.
The problem is that this is a continually happening it just hasn’t been known. Kira Jared’s sister has a degree in Ethnic studies and this is not a rare thing. Just is more known because of social media. It’s not a free country for people of color. Predjudice is taught in so many ways that even those of us who fight it in our minds still have thoughts. I have learned so much the past four years from Kira. It opened my eyes. I do believe most people are trying to overcome predjudice. As far as the police.. in the south it started as a way to enforce slavery and boy that history is horrific. That’s why we need to get police out of poor stead. They are causing problems and killing innocent people because they are looking for trouble. It’s upsetting. Even young girls and boys are harassed. Beaten etc by the police who should be looking out for them. I’m glad this has come out and people are fighting it. You are right that most people are doing what’s right. We just need to know our history to understand how laws have kept the poor..poor and in jail. If you get a chance ask kira her take on messenger.
It truly is disturbing how George was killed. But you are 100% right about the fact that people overlook: America is DIVERSE! It’s insanely diverse and therefore naturally deals with struggles that I think many others would also deal with. The one majorly unfortunate issue that definitely still exists-like you said, it’s getting better, but it still exists-is systemic racism. That is, the law and society (though not supposed to) benefits certain groups of people more than others. Because of Tom and I being white, we have such fewer things to worry about. It doesn’t mean we don’t have our own struggles, but it is just sad that it still exists. It is not what either of us want (same as many other white people), but people a significant amount of people make assumptions about people from other races that is NOT fair or morally correct. I don’t doubt that there’d be sooooo many of those same issues here in the Philippines. In fact, many are prejudice against Chinese people here in the Philippines. Many make sweeping generalizations and it is a logical fallacy and not fair. Hopefully we can look at individuals, instead of make assumptions that because one person does something, it means that everyone else from that country or of that ethnic identity is the same. Even I brushed up against that in the province: if I set down my bag a certain way, walk a certain way, say a certain thing, have a certain idea, “Oh. Is that how people are in the US or how white people are??” Or _”Anung kinakain NYO sa inyo????” “what do YOU eat????” (And then before I could answer) “Tinapay, right?” Being cat called, “HEY JOE!” Before anyone tries to explain, I know the history of where all those things come from and that it is just innocent curiosity, that doesn’t change the fact of how it can make an individual feel, even if they understand why it is that way. So please no being defensive about it. It doesn’t change that I love the Philippines and that there are so many wonderful things about it. I understand for many in the province they just had never seen a white person before nor had they experienced diversity in their lives so they were naturally and innocently curious. However, when you take those same lines of thinking and put it on a mass scale, some very intense things can start from their. People making mass assumptions about others because of ethnicity leads to feelings of being other and it is NOT a good feeling, even if it is innocent, eventually it gets old and you just want to be seen for who YOU are and not what your Ethnicity is.
fren emy, what about this is reverse racism?? I am merely expressing my experience and view on things. Not to mention I don’t invalidate others’ lived-in experiences.
I appreciate the mindset reset and the offer of a better perspective. Thanks for helping us understand America better. Tom, you truly represent the majority of Americans.
He's pleading for his life and hearing those lines, "I can't breathe" for almost 15 times is truly saddening. I don't know what I'm gonna do with that cop if I was George's brother.
Out of all the vloggers of Philippines, you have the most reflective & contemplative description of the world around you. A million thanks & credits for that because you lay out the truth in the fashion of Charles Dickens where we all come away with "meaningful themes" to think deeply about. Keep it up braddah!
The action of a single person is not a reflection of his neighbor, the action of the few people is not the reflection of the majority. Reality is, there's always rotten fruit on the basket and if we just let the rotten fruit stay on the basket the rest will get rotten too. There are no perfect country and every country has its own flaws.
I want to share this with you. My late father was an "amboy"(filipino slang during the 50s, 60s & 70s meaning a die-hard american fanatic). He was born and grew up during the american occupation. He loved americans, culture and people. Idolized MacArthur despite everything Dug-outDoug did. And he shared that with us, his children. I learned about Daniel Boone, George Custer, Kit Carson, & Davey Crockette long before I heard about Jose Rizal. He stubbornly sang the 2nd version(english) of the National Anthem even when it was already translated into the 3rd version(tagalog). But when he turned 70 in 1990, 8 yrs before his death in 1998, everything changed. He refused to go to the states when my sister petitioned him. And he never ever talked about america again. He also never said why. This remains a puzzle to me.
America has a great deal of good people Tom, but unfortunately there are too many bad people in positions of power who choose to abuse that power. Justice isn't seen by everyone, especially if you're in the minority. I'm Filipino as well, but have lived in America for most of my life. Where there are some aspects of life in America that have improved a bit, there is far too much that has not improved or has even gotten worse. I'm still hoping and praying that things get much better FOR EVERYONE. God bless you Tom, and God bless us all🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.
I am really sorry about what's happening in your country. Been watching the news to get me updated and it truly was heartbreaking. But there is no perfect country. No perfect government. All we have to do as citizens us to vote for rightful and empathetic leaders.
Isolated incidents like that do not define a nation or a tribe or an organization. Evil happens from time to time everywhere in the world. George Floyd's case runs very deep, rooted from the time of slavery to emancipation. I agree: Americans are generally good people. That incident is egregious by all accounts.
I have once lived in America. I lived in the Big Apple, in fact, for six years. And I had studied in American schools - elementary, to be exact. English is still the language of which I think in, and that I am most comfortable to speak. I'm back in the Philippines. I remember, and know, Americans as straightforward, friendly people. And I enjoyed my early childhood life there. Yet, when I see what's happening now about police brutality over African Americans, for no reasons at all, I am deeply saddened. WHY?! We are ALL equal, period. Simple as that.
Any act of crime or barbarity by any human from any country does not define a nation. The tragedy in MN can happen anywhere... sadly. No country is not guilty of any crime. To respond with justice according to the righteous and fair execution of the constitutional law is what's essential. We must continually have faith in the best that we can be. God never gives up on us. We never give up on America.
There are good and bad tomatoes in the crate. I'm positive that there's a good number of Americans out there who are good people. What's happening to America now, is a sad, sad thing. I pray for your country and fellow countrymen Tom.
I've lived in America and I can generally and genuinely say you're right about most Americans not being bad as what media has portrayed to the outsiders who haven't really lived there yet.

All should be more humble and less arrogant in one's denial with their respective flaws. America must make this greater effort, but is not alone here. Even in China it's illegal to hold a candle to mourn the Tiananmen massacre anniversary ...
I can feel your sadness in this video...😔😞 Sometimes when things like this happen, people tend to generalize, not taking into consideration that those policemen acted on their freewill and instinct. AMERICANS DID NOT CHEERED THEM TO DO SUCH CRIME... Regardless of your nationality, everyone has their inner demons. Everyone knows that this is pretty common in America. I can tell you now that they will not do anything to that cop. They will give him a slap on the wrist and that is all.
It’s really weird how they criticize our President’s ways for the war on drugs, but what they don’t know is the people who surrender and doesn’t fight and they don’t get hurt while the druglords who fight back with guns and knives dies,Like who do you want to die? The police/soldiers who are hardworking to raise a family? Or a druglord who doesn’t even try to work hard and damage other’s minds? Then there that happened,George Floyd already surrendered,Not even fighting back,But what does the cops do? Trying to kill him,They were telling him to get in the car,But what are they doing? Holding his neck down and his whole body down,If that happened here in the Philippines, they will get proper justice,They won’t only get fired,They will be drafted to fight in war in Mindanao,George Floyd needs justice and The US needs to stop criticizing others
I remember what Duterte said: "What's the difference of Americans killing innocent black people to Filipino police officers extinguishing drug addicts?" it speaks volume.
so sad, lea salonga did not pass as disney princess coz shes an asian.. zordon made Thuy trang as yellow ranger coz shes asian and making the black guy as a black ranger. 😔
What happens to the guilty police officer will surely answer your question......."is this who you(Americans) really are? " I already know the answer, but America needs to show the rest of the world......

blacklivesmatter
🇵🇭
This is just sad
I remember what Duterte said: "What's the difference of Americans killing innocent black people to Filipino police officers extinguishing drug addicts?" it speaks volume.
My sister didn't agree that I say America cruelly destroyed our country
I think the Americas is the babylon
😥
There's still racism in America, its a must that the officer or group of officers should pay gor their crime
so sad, lea salonga did not pass as disney princess coz shes an asian.. zordon made Thuy trang as yellow ranger coz shes asian and making the black guy as a black ranger. 😔
ohhh Okay.......?
What happens to the guilty police officer will surely answer your question......."is this who you(Americans) really are? " I already know the answer, but America needs to show the rest of the world......
One thing I wouldn't forget from my Grandma in Switzerland which she stated that there's always a story behind the camera and MEDIA IS HYPE.
The fact that Americans voted Trump is beyond comprehension
