Hi Chris, loved watching the time-lapse on my old Vibrochamp and a great lesson on joules and ohms law for my daughters physics test 👍

Great stuff Chris - I think you’re excellent at explaining stuff.
I may be to early for next questions thing but…
With an aeropress, how do,you stop the filters leaking? Every once in a while mine don’t seat quite properly and it just runs through too quick, wasting some coffee grounds. TIA.

i upgraded the output transformer on my Laney combo to a Hammond, AC30 type, a few years ago, it has been really good 👍

used a quite a few of hammond output transformers, never had a problem with them. Been trying to find one of those HT bench supplies for ages, never seem to turn up in the UK.

Hi Chris, thank you so much for all your work. Learning from you is a joy. Question: Are self-biasing / cathode biased amps really as plug-and-play as they say, no biasing ever required? Loud voices on the interwebs tell us cathode bias amps sound different and are slightly less efficient or slightly lower output, but do they really sound noticeably different?

    Hi Chris
    Love your channel.
??? I’ve got a nice pair of 6L6GC’s and planning on building a push-pull bassamp. Any suggestions on a circuit, simple and easy to build? I’m not an experienced builder, done a couple of singleended guitar amps.
And I’m very pleased with the fact that you got your first snow the same day as here. But you got more!😊

Loving the channel, super video content and Interesting explanation of the high/low input, which leads me to a supplementary question… One of my bass playing pals is using a Fender Bassman 135 head, and is running a P bass, through a compressor into the No 2 bass channel input, he then links the No 1 channel input to the Normal channel input No 1 with a patch cable. My question is, which is the best/correct way to make these connections so both input channels are linked safely?

Hi Chris. I'm enjoying your videos after a slight adjustment from the laid back style of Lyle @ Psionic. I live in SW France and have a VoxAC15cc1 that blow's its T650mA mains fuse every now and then immediately on initial startup. I am currently running it with a T1.0A fuse with no problem. The amp has the 230v transformer. The wall voltage here varies from 208v to 249v+ . Could this be the cause of the excess current draw or should it be able to cope with this range? It blows before taking it out of standby so could it be a problem with the heater circuit or one of the heater filaments. I have replaced all the electrolytic caps with Nichicon of Vichay. p.s Please keep your snow. We don't want it here.

Wow I had no idea it had been snowing in the UK! (I only really look at my local weather on my phone these days!) I'm only about 100 odd miles south and we've seen none, it is getting much colder though.

Hi Chris, thanks for a great channel, which I've recently discovered. I see you adding screen resistors on output valves to drop screen voltage below anode voltage. Question: do you prefer a minimal or greater voltage difference here (and why)?

Hi Chris, I've put together a layout combining a 5F2a Champ circuit with the Tremolo section of the AA764 and am waiting for all the parts to arrive. I've got a Fuzzdog one knob Reverb kit with a Belton brick in the house and was thinking of adding it in first in line after one of the inputs, is this a daft idea? Is there a better place that it would go in the circuit?

Hi Chris! Love your channel. Have you seen Guitar CPRs Vibrochamp bias video? He gives a great explanation on biasing the Vibrochamp by changing the dropping resistors. Obviously, Im not trying to correct your procedure Im just trying to learn. Would love to hear your opinion on this. Thanks

Best of luck with the 1 watt JCM, I love the idea. Sadly not much use to me as I play bass and mandolin - although an electric mando going through a JCM..... hmmmm.🙃

I’m lucky, I live less than an hour’s drive from the Hammond factory so shipping is not so bad! Never had a problem with their quality, they are not Lundhal or other audiophile grade but better built and sounding than almost anything for the money. Over specified too - you’re not going to get short changed on power handling, frequency response or reliability.

Hi Chris. Previous customer and I’ve enjoyed bingeing your videos this week. I have a question re caps please. There’s a lot of nonsense and smoke and mirrors about caps online but nonetheless I notice you like using the F&Ts. I also had read somewhere that their quality recently has dipped and they aren’t what they once were. What are your thoughts? Then without going down the rabbit hole of different brands, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Vishay ones given that the Psionic guy seems to favour them over other brands in general. Thanks!

My Vibro Champ was also biased hot. I ended up with a 5 watt, 680 ohm resistor, and upped the voltage on the cap to 50V, just like you did. It's now biased at 14.12 watts. My 6V6 is the original from 1979. Isn't 14 watts the absolute design maximum?

    • @RiftAmps
      @RiftAmps  2 дні тому

14w for modern 6V6s, 12w for the older types. Always best to check datasheet

@@RiftAmps My 6V6GT is a "Made in USA" Fender Special Design labeled tube. The date code appears to be the 13th week of 1978. Many years ago I bought a NOS RCA dated the 39th week of 1958, but have never had to use it. Would you consider both of these modern 6V6GTs?

What’s that annoying hum occurring on the Champ time lapse section ( around 30 mins in ) ?
