It's hilarious how you people think he had "balls" for owning tigers. Like, definitely braver than the average person, but FAR from being truly "brave". Then as shown here, the moment his (unethically-bred) Liger tried to merely do some rough _playing_ with him, he went into little bitch-mode and thought it was trying to "attack" him and scared it off by firing his revolver in the air. Big pussy move if you ask me. (Also potentially damaging animals' eardrums in the process with a firearm, which is technically animal cruelty)
Trust me. It wasn't "attacking" him. Even a smaller cougar under 100 kg can have you dead in under a minute if it wants to. But a large enough lion or tiger is most likely strong enough to break your neck with a single paw strike. Death within seconds and no time to react if it truly wants to end you.
Meanwhile, my favorite South African youtuber Michael Jamison, who I personally call the REAL "Tiger King", straight up _tackled_ his multi-hundred pound tiger Enzo when the tiger tried to chase one of Michael's house cats that accidentally got inside the tiger enclosure. Now THAT is what you call a person with balls, and someone those ignorant pitbull owners, that straight-up freeze when their dog attacks another pet/person, can learn from. And unlike Joe in every way, Jamison actually rescued his tigers and humanely cares for them and didn't unethically obtain his animals for the sake of profit.
At the end of the day, Joe Exotic is just like any other irresponsible rich asshole who got involved in illegal exotic animal trade, and then found out real quick they indeed CANNOT control an apex predator like they thought. It shows you how ignorant most people are when you see the amount of comments saying the bastard should be freed from prison.

Years ago, I saw a guy in a wheelchair go by the clear glass of the Mountain Lion exhibit on what was the Big Cat trail but is now removed and called Africa Rocks at the San Diego Zoo. I never have seen such greedy eyes and viciousness displayed by the Mountain Lion on display when closely tracking the guy back and forth across the glass as he moved up and down the pathway in front of the enclosure. Joe needs to really watch it in the future if he doesn’t want to become a tiger lunch. A good keeper of large carnivores will never step foot inside a habitat when injured or disabled and when the predators are still on display. That is why AZA member zoos have protected contact policies using behavioral conditioning, not guns and canes. Having balls of steel and/or suicidal impulses should not be a factor in caring for large animals.
I remember this, they put some kind of oil or ? In his shoes so the Tigers would jump on him or maybe they were wanting the Tigers to even kill him but you can tell this was true, they were after his shoes big time and the interview on here with , I can't remember his name but it was his videos that were burnt up in the fire, and he was mad about it but he was saying Joe was scared of the Tigers, you can tell from this video and many others Joe was not afraid of the Tigers , not at all and that guy was just a big liar , but I'm glad they didn't hurt Joe but those so called friends still got away with setting him up and now he's locked up and needs to be out and at home , I mean look what they did right here and then didn't even pretend to help him or anything ‼️ FREE JOE EXOTIC.

The handgun was probably his backup plan, pretty much the only other option is have someone with a rifle outside the fence to shoot the animal if attacked. They could’ve also used tranquilizer darts but i doubt they would’ve took effect quick enough to save him from being attacked.
