Guys, use a hairdryer to heat up the backplate before you ruin your charger trying to open it with a screwdriver) Once it's hot - the glue melts and you can do it with bare hands.
What an incredibly poor design, shame on Nikon. In addition to a lack of case accessibility, the mosfet component that failed was much too heavy to be left unsupported. One very lite drop to a carpeted floor, and thats it. Very bad engineering on the designers part.
