Back in '1999, my old band was talking to the 2 ladies running the merch booth at the Queensryche show for quite a while. Turns out it was Geoff's wife and tour manager, Anita. They then asked if we wanted to come meet the band and hang with them after the show. We did and then got asked to hang with them again at consecutive shows. After hearing our demo,we got offered a 2 week spot to open for them. All was working toward it and we were ready to go......until our band had internal fighting and broke apart. At least Queensryche and their whole crew were awesome people to hang out with. ....
I saw Queensryche in Indianapolis in February of 2000 and was absolutely blown away by not only the band but by Geoff Tate. He is one of a kind and he delivers his lyrics like he is experiencing the pain in real time. He is my fav.
I've seen Queensryche 13 times and Geoff twice. My favorite band ever and my favorite singer ever. Of course his range is amazing. He has a tremendous rich undertone as well. His voice is kind of addictive like chocolate. You get a taste and find yourself wanting more. He is a master of his craft. He plays to the fans. His vibrato is great. His ability to announce words so perfectly whether he's singing with power or with the smooth chocolate is amazing. A MASTER FOR SURE!
One of the best rock vocalist of all time. What a very creative vocalist, with range not from this world. His vocals draw me into the heart of the song, where I’m playing it all out.
Ive loved queensryche ever since ive heard rhem from uncle who passed but his voice and music was so different. I went to a live concert in salt lake city in early 2000's and i loved his show. My favorite song is i dont believe in love and i rock to queensryche with geoff tate only. He is the one and only quuensryche and will only listen when he is singing. Great voice and l still have the tahirt and necklace i purchased from that concert. Love ya Geoff❤️❤️
Queensryche was one of the most profound concerts I have ever been to. Geoff Tate's stagecraft and amazing voice simply took me to a place I have never been, it was profound. I must say it was almost like a religious experience :) When they finished up with silent lucidity it was awesome. At 56 I still listen to this band weekly and thanks for doing this piece.
Vocal g o a t. Range, power, emotion unmatched. Have seen him rock arenas and small clubs. Gives his all in every show. Just this year saw the full Rage & Empire set, still amazing. Halford, Dio, Mercury all a close second but Tate is the goat.
Geoff is my favorite singer of all time and his lyrics were phenomenal. Like all great bands, every musician in that group were incredible in their own right. They had the incredible chemistry.
The thing about Geoff Tate is it isn't just about the range of his voice, because LaTorre and other singers can hit and sustain all those high notes Tate has to be cautious about nowadays - but it's the tone and timbre and emotion of his voice. It's like the difference people can hear between a newly made violin and a classic Stradivarius.
You compared Tate and LaTorre. Tate is a baritone and was capable of hitting the E-5, LaTorre is a tenor therefore it is much easier for him to hit that E-5. Tate most likely can not hit those notes anymore, but there is more to it than just notes. Tate sings with emotions that very few can. Without Geoff and Chris queensryche is nothing more than a clone of iron maiden.
Been following Queensryche since 1988 and seen them live over 20 times and wish it was 1000. Had the honor of meeting Geoff before a show in 2005 and told him how important their music was to me and that his voice and lyrical ability to me is the best ever. He was humble in his response and just showed a tremendous amount of class and sincerity. A true great.
Operation Mindcrime is a musical masterpiece, it totally blew my socks off when I first listened to it. And I still have it on CD...yes CD! Keep rockin' Ken.
@@kentamplin I don't believe in love was the first song I heard from Mindcrime, when it came out. I immediately bought it and was treated to the most amazing rock masterpiece ever. Eyes of a Stranger is without peer.
This band is phenomenal, Queensryche, Chirs DeGarmo, Geoff Tate, one of my favorite of all time 🎸🎸🎸 From EP to Empire album in addition the LiveCrime live concert is masterpiece
What’s not for love about Geoff Tate vocals, he is just fantastic. Highs and lows, fantastic interpreter. He is definitely one of a kind, my top 3 rock fav: Geoff Tate, Ronnie James Dio and Rob Halford 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Operation Mindcrime is THE masterpiece in Rock history. I was glad to see them live with their Operation Mindcrime / Empire tour in the early 90s in Germany. Suite Sister Mary live was the best I've ever heard to date.
One of the most phenomenal things about Queensreiche with Geoff Tate was his sound. He has such a specific sound and his vocals are so hard to duplicate. Operation Mindcrime was just out of this world great. The band as a whole was 100% on delivery
I saw Queensryche perform with Dream Theater in Seattle. At the end of the show they mixed the bands up and performed each others songs. Hearing Geoff sing Dream Theater tunes was one of the greatest concert experiences I've ever had. Stunning singing, stunning playing, and overall a fantastic show.
Hey Ken, my name is Stewart. I'm in Naples Florida. I'm using my wife's account in his prime. Jeff Tate was literally the best singer I have ever heard in my life as far as rock Pavarotti was the best as far as opera... I saw Pavarotti in Central Park and it was an experience. I will never forget. Best to you, you have a good one😊
Geoff Tate is a phenomenal singer and performer. I never saw them live, but this band was unique. They had a sound that separated them from others. I can listen to Geoff Tate sing all day.
His tone is what makes him special. The live in Tokyo ‘84 concert (especially Take Hold of the Flame) may be the greatest live performance I’ve ever heard. Why does he remind me of Elvis??
All members of Queensryche are phemomenal musicians. The duo of Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton on guitars, The amazing Eddie Jackson on bass, Scott Rockenfield's brilliant drumming, and Geoff Tate's vocal mastery made them a once in a lifetime band. Their brilliant songwriting didn't hurt, either.
It was a great performance but i wish he would have followed thru on that super high note in the beginning of Take hold of the flame! What an amazing band they were!
Everything. The emotion, power, conviction, Range. From the Subtle and beautiful like Anybody listening? To deep and emotional NO Sactuary. He doesn't take songs off. The entire Rage for Order album is a masterclass in singing. Neue Ragal, The Whisper and London are a display of talent and feeling. While I Will remember is haunting in its honesty and simplicity. Just a pure story teller.
One of the most overlooked singers ever. Even in the upper registers, he had a power and depth that very few have ever had. When you can sing in registers so high that you're attracting small animals backstage but your voice still has balls, that's pretty amazing to me.
He's def one of the best and influential in vocal styling. I've seen him do a great acoustic show and a solo full band performance in recent years. I'm happy to say he can still deliver the songs well after all these years!!
Geoff is magnetic like a ball of frenzied energy always moving. His mannerism on stage is captivating. Of course his vocal range is amazing but his true gift is his dramatic stage performances. Its not overstated either he balances his high energy kicks spins etc with the softness of sensuality. He's very imaginative in his gestures. At times watching him in concert makes me feel like I'm in a full balcony theater watching some great opera to make me cry. No other heavy metal band has this effect on me. He is the greatest singer of his era.😱😱😱😱😱😱💗💗💗💗💗💗
IMO Chris DeGarmo’s vocals were integral to the Queensryche sound. Especially live, the band was never as great without his playing and his vocal contributions. 😔
Actually his vocals are pretty subpar. There is a song on HITNF album where he's the lead singer and he has zero range. He's also responsible for the travesty that is that album.
Chris DeGarmo would have been a lead singer in any other band, except Queensryche. Chris has a great voice, no doubt. His back up vocals were amazing. It was like nothing was lost.
Geoff Tate is one of the most powerful vocalists of all time. It’s not only about his amazing vocal range and his beautiful unique voice. It’s also very much about the way he puts emotions in his singing. He transfers the feeling of pain for example when sings the word pain. He sings with his whole heart and soul. And that makes him a very special singer and artist.
Geoff Tate is just one of the greatest male singers of all time. Love your voice and channel too. When I started singing Geoff was my idol. I tried to emulate him as much as possible. In a way I think ive found my voice now, but still can hear his influence background. But I got to admit, he is still better than me 😁. Live Evolution blew my mind. That quality is out of this world
I have seen them live and their concert was the best I have seen, while acting out the songs Tate’s vocals carried & stood alone hardly any backing vocals. being a baritone and hitting the high notes was incredible
GEOFF is outstanding. Another versatile singer and he understands how to use his gifts. Some singers rely on playing it safe, not Geoff...he always seems to expand his vocals.
I`ve seen Queensryche live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. It was the Empire tour. Geoff Tate has created his own style. All those dinamics he applies when singing, low, middle and high range tones plus the performance emotion makes him probably the best in the business. I love the whole band too.
I saw them live in 1991. They had released Empire but the tour was Operation Mindcrime. Literally the best concert that I have been to. The video screens explaining the story with the band playing along with it. Never seen anything like it before that time. I went to every concert that came to town.
I remember debating in the late 80's who had the best voice. I said Steve Perry and they mentioned this guy who I never heard of....until I listen to Operation Mindcrime....was hooked ever since.
I have recently came across your channel, and I have been on a binge. I'm so sad to hear you say that you had not seen them live. I haven't been to see them since they split. I last saw them in 1993. When they played live, it was like listening to their recordings. I saw them live three times, each concert had security everywhere. Last concert was in Peoria, IL. I was so disappointed with the crowd, it was s like no one knew how to yell for an encore. I was just about escorted out for not remaining in my assigned seat. I would work my way to front center stage section, would be ok until I woulbstand in the chair to sing and dance. The crowd was just bumps on a log...not too enthusiastic and not too energetic. But the band was spot on like always. Shameful that two people screaming for an encore couldn't make it happen.
For me it was the whole Empire Album. The song writing the production Was top notch. Seen them at Harpos before they got big in 1982, and of course Though the mind crime , empire tours. Chris Degarmo & Geoff Tate Do not get their fair share of accolades as some other duo's. Probably one of the last great bands before the music industry changed. Thank you KT. Stay safe
His rich baritone with his phrasing...there's just no one else who sounds like Tate. First time I saw Queenryche live was the Building Empires tour in '91. I was already blown away by Tate's voice but not only was the whole show unbeliveably great (Operation:Mindcrime in its entirty with the video screens telling the story and the light show, etc) but Tate himself was amazing. Too bad you couldn't show clips from the Operation Livecrime release. I've seen him live 11 or 12 times now and Tate is usally pitch perfect live and he impossibly sounds better the longer he sings. He's the only singer I know of who is consistantly performing 1.5hr+ shows. He still has it in his early 60s, even after decades of constant touring. The past few years I've been seeing amateur video where he's hitting those mythical heights. Can't wait to see him live again!
I saw several live shows and Tate will always be one of my all time favorite singers because he brings the emotions to life in his singing for me. I have rarely felt the powerful emotion evoking elements from most other singers and bands and it is why the original Queensryche will always be one of my all time favorite bands. The soft versus hard singing sections and music truly evoked a very powerful and visceral response in live concerts for me every time I ever got to go to one of their concerts every single time. They truly were incredible to see in live concerts because of how the energy went from restrained to explosive and back to restrained like a symphony of emotions for me and everyone I know who has ever been to an original Queensryche line up concert.
Fortunately I have seen them multiple times and never have been disappointed. Some shows better than others! Met Geoff and he was a genuinely nice and sincere person. My all time favorite vocalist.
Yes to Roy Khan! More people need to know about him, I don't think anyone sings with more intensity and passion and lives inside a song like Khan. And Tate is amazing of course.
@@Kinetic_Force ok. So let' s Dimash sing some hard things from Queensryche! I would like to see this. Or some things from Helloween or even Iron Maiden.
I have literally seen them live over a dozen times. I remember the first headline tour of Mindcrime. It was about as close to a religious experience as possible. To this day I get a chill up and down my body when I hear old Queensryche. The whole original band were just insanely talented and creative.
Glad I found your site and your reactions to this. Its really cool to see a professional comment on Queensryche. I was lucky to see them several times live and they were even better live than on the album. Got to see them do the complete Mindcrime album live with videos and actors. It was mind blowing. And yes, Mindcrime is in my opinion is the best concept album of all times. This band was total perfection. Thank you
One of my favourite singers back in the 80s. Thanks ken I’ll watch it now. I know you analysed him before and you went into great detail. Great image quality in this video btw.
Geoff did some pretty unique things with his voice like closing off his throat at the beginning of some lines, to add emphasis and punch,, , hit some pretty deep notes that gave the song a darker tone,, ramp his voice up to a note much more dramatically than anyone I've heard. The most unique voice in a of metal!
Had the pleasure to watch them live, in 2004 if i remember correctly, they were doing a tour on operation mindcrime, so they did the whole album, it was great, loved it, one of my favorite bands, quite underrated, Geoff one of the best, his voice takes me places, dark places mostly, which i love. I'm glad to have seen them live, operation mindcrime and rage for order are among my all time favorite albums.
Thanks for doing Geoff Tate, Ken. Queensryche is one of my favorites, and I agree that *_Operation: Mindcrime_* is a true masterpiece of Progressive Rock. My first Prog bands were RUSH! & Kansas at age 14, so QR is in great company. In this age of "instant everything" I still relish listening to these bands' albums (well, lossless FLAC files, lol) from start to finish. Great video & it's a highlight to hear you sing some of the vocally gymnastic parts during your commentary. It's obvious you love the music & teaching. Kindred spirits, we are. 🎶 🤟
I went to operation mindcrime tour I remember the day after Thanksgiving in 1988 at the Richfield Coliseum with a couple of friends. I was more of an Anthrax and heavier thrash guy. The show was absolutely fantastic. The only other band I ever heard that was that tight live was Journey or Rush. Longtime fan of The Ryche ever since. \m/
You should review Ray Alder of Fates Warning. The way he’s gone from crazy high to this modern rock range is amazing. He’s seriously underrated. And when you hear him sing with Todd on Take Hold Of The Flame.. you kinda wish Ray was singing with QR instead
@@kentamplin - This unfortunately will not get many views or huge likes, because still today, Fates Warning (note: Are considered the 2nd founder of Prog Metal next to QR) are very very underrated, if its the years with the unique vocals of John Arch (and now with FW's sister band "Arch/Matheos"), and then with Ray Alder. Ray had a great range for the 1st 5 albums, and then it matured (personally, I think better than Tate) but still solid vocals from Ray on EVERY album. But I have to say, Arch still has that range from his early days, even after being away from music for quite some time, and at 61 years old. Ken - please checkout the catalogue of FW, and Arch/Matheos (2 albums so far), and Ray Alder's years with the band "Redemption" and his solo album. I'd link my own FW Playlist, but this comment may be yanked by Yt unfortunately. I've probably seen Fates as much as QR (from Rage of Order, to Q2k), maybe more. And FW dropped a new album last November (2020).
I was actually going to suggest Queensryche to you until I saw this! They opened up for Metallica when the Justice for All album came out. I saw them at Dayton Hara Arena. Operation Mindcrime was one of my favorite albums of all time! Geoff Tate's voice just drew me in plus the whole sound of the album put me in a trance. It was like they were telling a story through song like Pink Floyd.
I agree totally that Operation Mindcrime is awesomely top shelf! Best concept album imo!! I love Geoff Tate's voice for it's all round quality & character. He puts such personality & feeling in the storytelling way he voices their songs. He draws in the listener quite effectively imo!
Geoff is one of my all time favorite vocalist. I wish he had more of the heavy metal style songs like take hold of the flame that used the higher range of his vocal abilities. His high range was soooo clean and pure and mixed with nice heavy guitars it was very enjoyable. I felt like there just wasnt enough of that. I wanted more but never really got it.
Geoff was and is one of the most dynamic and exceptional vocalists in the last 30 years! I am amazed that he is still plugging away. May I suggest that you kindly consider reviewing Roy Khan and Michael Eriksen (if you haven't already done so), one day soon?
Saw Queensrych, in 2006 they did a "Operation Mind Crime" Show in Knoxville Tn . The show was most excellent. Tate and Halford and Dio . Are the best Opera style singers .. Dio is part of the "Operation Mind Crime". This is the only show I have seen of Tate .. Awsome range and showmanship. If concerts come around again in this day in age .. I will go see Tate again .
I remember listening to Queensryche at school and feeling like I was the only one who knew about them. Then they hit my town on the Rage for Order tour and suddenly everyone was wearing the logo. Yeah, I was listening to them before it was cool! I recently introduced my wife to their '80s music and she can't get enough of Geoff. Silent Lucidity introduced her to the band, and it was great to expand their audience, but it's far from their best song.
I saw Geoff Tate on his tour closer and on his birthday (1/14/23). He just owned that stage and even though this was the closer for the tour still could belt out the set strong from start to finish. I was so very impressed that he's kept up his ability into his 60's.
I saw them a few times in the 80's when Mr. Tate was still hitting all the big notes. Amazing band especially in the earlier years. Thanks for sharing, Ken and hope all is well with you:)
Geoff Tate, the most under rated vocalist ever, unless you hear them live and felt a band play that tight. You won't understand it. Listen to "Operation Mindcrime" front to back. The best concept album and an interesting story in it.
Yes!! Thanks Ken, I've been waiting for this! My dad raised me on progressive rock, and Queensryche was my first CD as a kid. Love Tate's broody but powerful vocals
I saw them on their "Empire" tour. It was their first headlining tour. They did "Operation Mindcrime" in its entirety, songs from "Empire", and a few pre-Operation Mindcrime classics. It might be the only show I've ever been to that I can say was absolutely flawless.
Hi Ken, first of all thank you very much for the space you give Queensryche a group that deserved so much more than what they had in their best years. From the first Ep up to Promise Land. I was lucky enough to see them live three times in those years, in the Monsters of Rock festival with Metallica and AC / DC then the Empire tour where they performed all Mindcrime! and The Promise Land tour ... Geoff Tate is a giant as a singer as well as for the vocal range that we all love, especially for his absurd interpretative skills, seeing him live up close is hypnotic, he takes you into the world of Queensryche and does not let you go until the end ... I mention one on all Road to Madness live in the Empire tour. It brought me to tears so overwhelming was the emotion expressed by the interpretation of him. There is so much to say but I stop here so as not to bore anyone. Rock On!
Great take on Geoff! Would love to see an isolated vocals vid on any of Queensrÿche's tracks, if I had choice it would be 'Eyes of A Stranger' or 'Hand On Heart'.
I have seen Queensryche 5 times with Geoff Tate as the singer once at the World Arena in Colorado Springs in 2000 I think once at the Ogden in Denver, twice at the Filmore in Denver and the one time they played at the Colorado State Fair Grounds. Along with the band their music always captured my imagination. Empty Room is one of the first songs I remember hearing from them when my uncle had Queesnsryche in the tape deck in the truck taking us camping. They have been on my playlists from then on. The story telling abilities really speak to me, some of my favorite songs are not their most popular Lady Jane and Someone Else from Promise Land, Anybody Listening from Empire, and Breaking the Silence, Speak and Mission from Mindcrime. among others of course. I am sad to see that Geoff Tate isn't with Queensryche proper any more... I think Todd La Torre is pretty good too and appears to have the package to do a good stand in. I need to see Queensryche live with Todd La Torre for my final opinion though; and I still need to see Geoff Tate with his new band too. anyhow thanks fro your time. nice show case.
Dude you hit the nail on the head when you said Maiden! Agreed.... definitely sounds like a Maiden influence...Love Queensryche always have...Jeff Tate is the man...and it seems that you could imitate his voice flawlessly...I want to see you do a video where you the voice instructor sings Eye of a Stranger from start to finish...That would be cool.
Queensryche was introduced to by back in 88 or 89 I think when Operation Mindcrime came out. I saw them with Def Leppard. I was blown away. The music, lyrics and vocals made me realize this guy is a master at his craft. It deserved so much more recognition. It makes you realize real singing talent has to be worked on. Sure some people have natural ability but you don't get to that level without years of practice. Anyone can build a tree fort. This was the Sistine Chapel. If you want to be this good you gotta work at it. He did the work.
Thanks, MANOWAR KILLS! I wanted you to know that UA-cam no longer sends email notifications about new releases. If you would like to know when a new video is going to drop you can sign up to receive updates at: kentamplinvocalacademy.com/get-notified/ Rock on!
Top shelf for sure ... Great tone also..Range well yeah..Saw them live twice in different States each time I was blown away.. Awesome live ..Very theatrical...Sound was Amazing
Ken, I saw Queensryche twice on their Operation: Mindcrime Tour open for Metallica on their And Justice For All Tour in Hartford,CT & Providence,R.I. back in 1987. We were able to meet Metallica Backstage, but they wouldn't let us meet Queensryche. Both Nights Were Phenomenal ! 33 years later this past February at a small club in Fairfield,CT We saw Geoff Tate & Friends perform the Rage For Order & Empire Albums in their entirety. At 61 Geoff still sounded great. I was expecting maybe some loss of range, control, or power, but you couldn't prove it to me. They didn't get all the Guitar Tones right, but they tried really hard on all the arrangements. It was a really enjoyable night. Little did we know it would be the last show before COVID-19 Locked Down Every Show For Over 6 Months Now.
I listened to Queensryche like a week ago for the first time (take hold of the flame in tokyo) and the first thing i noticed is that i could hear some Bruce Dickinson in Tate's voice as you said Ken! Phenomenal singers both of them
Hey, Ken. Love how you could hear the Iron Maiden, and Bruce Dickinson influence. My fave metal band of all time. Now I get why i was SO blown away by Queensryche. Love your work!
First time I saw Geoff, many many years ago. I thought whose this tool in a bright red leotard and headband. He went to the front of the stage and started to scream. Never heard anything like it and he kept it up all shift. Saw him recently in Avantasia with Tobias Sammet and he's still smashing it...Unbelievable. Cracker review. You Rock👏🤘👏
Awesome range . Passionate singer hits all the notes spot on every time. Not too many voices like his. Love Silent Lucidity and Anybody Listening. Great Vocals always leaves me sppechless.
First album I bought was the The Warning and the VHS live in Tokyo.. Mr Tate's voice transcended my imagination to the stories they were singing about. Not a lot of singers are able to do that (similar like Dimash). His vocals on Rage for Order are from another world like watching (listening) to an amazing SF movie. Mindcrime was also out of this world especially that epic collaboration with Pamela Moore. After Operation mindcrime somehow the magic was gone,... But still a great band.
My opinion ; Geoff is the BEST Rock Vocalist ever . I finally just saw him and watched his Band play 5 Days ago . And I actually got to meet him and talk for a few minutes . 9 - 24 - 23 . I couldn't afford a VIP Pass to go Backstage so I couldn't get a Pic with him . That's kinda F'ed up . But I did hang out with the Vocalist from the Opening Band and got a Pic . Mark Daly and the Ravens . Great Video Dude !! Thanks for creating and sharing this . Hope you're doing well . 🎸
Operation Mindcrime is still one of the greatest concept albums ever made. Crazy how Geoff would alter his vocals to fit the feel of the song...the needle lies is a perfect example. Geoff sounded like he was strung out on the drugs, portraying the character of the story and conveying that to the listener...to eyes of a stranger at the end of the album...cooler and more mellow, almost talking to the listener and accepting the fact they’re condemned to a mental ward for the rest of their existence... I think I remember hearing some Rumor/fact that for the lady wore black, he actually did sing the song by a solo lit candle so he could get the feeling and emotion just right. Don’t know if it’s true but wouldn’t surprise me
Hands down my favorite band and vocalist of all time. From the second the EP came out I was hooked, truly phenomenal talent and so unique, nothing like them before or since. I saw them multiple times in the 80’s- early 90’s and was never disappointed, absolutely love their stuff to this day, it never gets old to me
I saw Queensryche open for ozzy on the rage for order tour.. Ozzy was bark at the moon ..I was probably one of 10 people there to basically only see QR ...I was a kid and obsessed with them since I heard them on metal shop with their EP .. that concert stands as one of the best if not the best concert performance ive ever seen.. Tate and degarmo in their prime.. just ridiculous.. the whole band was perfect.
Shame on you Ken for never seeing Queensryche..Lol. Geoff Tate is even better live and an unbelievable showman. I've seen them probably 8 times in NY and they were great everytime. Operation Mind Crime was one of the best records ever made.
I still have my calendar from 1985 marking a concert they played in the Bay Area but my parents wouldn’t let me go. I did see them twice - once in 1988 with Metallica at the Cow Palace and once in 1991 at Day on the Green with Metallica and Soundgarden. I discovered them on MTV’s Headbangers Ball when they played ‘Gonna Get Close to You’ and was instantly in love with Geoff Tate’s voice. My very 1st CD was Rage For Order. When Operation Mindcrime came out - everyone said it was better than Rage For order and I refused to believe it…..: and then I heard it and was blown away! It’s a true masterpiece and I can’t play it loud enough! I was disappointed in Empire - I thought they sold out and was very ‘ commercial’ however the song I do love on that album is Jet City Woman. He is one of the most underrated rock voices - in my opinion.
I'm a HUGE fan of Queensryche Ken. I've seen them 67 times in 7 different cities across America spanning from The Warning LP through American Soldier. IMHO no one could or has topped Tate vocally. Todd La Torre is doing some great stuff fronting the band now...."Tough shoes to fill"{ lol Todd just releases a solo LP 2 or 3 months ago that is most definitely worth a listen called " Rejoice In The Suffering"............He's the real deal! Cheers from San Antonio,Tx Ken I, enjoy you channel wisdom, content and channel.
His emotional connection to his music ads another layer to his greatness
"Take Hold Of The Flame" from that Live In Tokyo DVD is still probably the single greatest live rock performance of all time
Rock on!
Can't argue check out candlebox Kevin Martin live in Seattle
take hold of the flame is a great live performance.
I am hooked on that consert in Tokyo 84...that concert is probably among the top live performance ever made. cudos from iceland
Absolutely! my brother. No one can hold a candle to Geoff Tate.
Best singer Rockers have ever had the privilege of hearing.
Saw Queensryche at Monster of Rock in Modena in 1991.
Best live performance ever.
At least Queensryche and their whole crew were awesome people to hang out with. ....
Oh, man! What a bummer! Glad to hear Queensryche was made up of cool folks.
you guys must have been pretty good
I saw Queensryche in Indianapolis in February of 2000 and was absolutely blown away by not only the band but by Geoff Tate. He is one of a kind and he delivers his lyrics like he is experiencing the pain in real time. He is my fav.
I saw Geoff live last night. Now aged 65, his incredible vocal range is still there. Mind blowingly great
I've seen Queensryche 13 times and Geoff twice.

Geoff Tate phenomenal singer
Indeed!
Geoff is my favorite singer of all time and his lyrics were phenomenal.
Like all great bands, every musician in that group were incredible in their own right. They had the incredible chemistry.
Absolutely!
Rock on!
This ☝️
I agree, even with his 2 Sweet Oblivion recordings, it’s still Geoff carrying it.
@@johnwilson2414 Spot on! And compare Tate & La Torre at their same age too. La Torre is 15 years younger. Tate is in his mid 60s.
That's awesome!
Operation Mindcrime is a musical masterpiece, it totally blew my socks off when I first listened to it. And I still have it on CD...yes CD! Keep rockin' Ken.
It was majestic!!
@@kentamplin I don't believe in love was the first song I heard from Mindcrime, when it came out. I immediately bought it and was treated to the most amazing rock masterpiece ever.
Eyes of a Stranger is without peer.
I've also still got my Cassette Tape of this album. Great Album, yes.
Me, too and seen them live 3x
I must have bought this cassette 3 or 4 times because I listened to it non stop and it was the preferred music for my deck to eat
Geoff blew me away Live! WOW!!
Operation Mindcrime is THE masterpiece in Rock history. I was glad to see them live with their Operation Mindcrime / Empire tour in the early 90s in Germany. Suite Sister Mary live was the best I've ever heard to date.
Awesome, Marcotronic!
One of the most phenomenal things about Queensreiche with Geoff Tate was his sound. He has such a specific sound and his vocals are so hard to duplicate. Operation Mindcrime was just out of this world great. The band as a whole was 100% on delivery
My favorite song by far would have to be Take hold of the flame.
How cool was that?!
I went to the Houston show on that tour and the above was definitely a highlight.
He's got a new project, Sweet Oblivion, that sounds more like old Queensryche than modern Queensryche does.
Rock on!
@@brotheraugustine I bought that CD. I like it.
His tone is what makes him special. The live in Tokyo ‘84 concert (especially Take Hold of the Flame) may be the greatest live performance I’ve ever heard. Why does he remind me of Elvis??
Rock on, Steve!
I agree and have said it several times over the years! Fucking awesome!
@@shonbarton3571 I know what you mean, but I think that's a really tough transition!!
Tate was simply AMAZING every time i saw him but a little better each time
Geoff is magnetic like a ball of frenzied energy always moving.
Thanks for the thoughts! Rock on Flynn!
Geoff tate, simply the Best. I saw them live in Portugal. Just unforgettable
Rock on!
"Jet City Woman"gives me the chills, must be his vibrato and tonality.Great songwriters!I saw him in upstate NY about 25 years ago, great show.
IMO Chris DeGarmo’s vocals were integral to the Queensryche sound. Especially live, the band was never as great without his playing and his vocal contributions. 😔
Thank you, HMH!
Let's not forget his writing skills
Absolutely!
Queensryche was the epitome of perfection!
Everything makes Geoff great.
Haha! That about covers it!
Indeed! Thanks, Dada!
That quality is out of this world
Rock on!
Even after all these years his vocals from the Live In Tokyo recording still makes the hair on my arms stand up .
I have seen them live and their concert was the best I have seen, while acting out the songs Tate’s vocals carried & stood alone hardly any backing vocals. being a baritone and hitting the high notes was incredible
Awesome!
GEOFF is outstanding. Another versatile singer and he understands how to use his gifts. Some singers rely on playing it safe, not Geoff...he always seems to expand his vocals.
Thanks for listening!
I`ve seen Queensryche live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. It was the Empire tour. Geoff Tate has created his own style. All those dinamics he applies when singing, low, middle and high range tones plus the performance emotion makes him probably the best in the business. I love the whole band too.
Rock on!
Thanks for doing this Ken, for me Geoff Tate was the best combo of power, range and quality tones. Even today his voice is pretty good!
I saw them live in 1991. They had released Empire but the tour was Operation Mindcrime. Literally the best concert that I have been to. The video screens explaining the story with the band playing along with it. Never seen anything like it before that time. I went to every concert that came to town.
Rock on!
I remember debating in the late 80's who had the best voice. I said Steve Perry and they mentioned this guy who I never heard of....until I listen to Operation Mindcrime....was hooked ever since.
Thanks for listening. Rock on!
Love Geoff Tate..
For me it was the whole Empire
Album.
The song writing the production
Was top notch.
Seen them at Harpos before they got big in 1982, and of course
Though the mind crime , empire tours.
Chris Degarmo & Geoff Tate
Do not get their fair share of accolades as some other duo's.
Probably one of the last great bands before the music industry changed.
Thank you KT.
Stay safe
Thank you, David L! Rock on!
Wow, Harpos detroit?
Geoff Tate is one of the best singers I’ve ever heard
He is indeed!
Thanks for weighing in, rbrebrook!
Great to hear that!
Geoff Tate and Roy Kahn are my two top singers I have ever heard, both progressive metal type singers with fantastic range
Great ones!
Both of their replacements... Todd La Torre and Tommy Karevik, are no slouches either :)
Yes to Roy Khan! More people need to know about him, I don't think anyone sings with more intensity and passion and lives inside a song like Khan. And Tate is amazing of course.
I've always thought as Geoff Tate as being one of the best vocalist of all-time in that genre. But, the best singer I have ever heard is Dimash.
Thanks for listening!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC YOU HIT THE NAIL TOTALLY ON THE HEAD THANK YOU KEN
You're very welcome!
Thanks for listening!
Thanks for the suggestion, Daniel!
That is for sure the most underrated singer. I love Ray's voice. The way he uses his voice even now he doesn't sing as high.
Awesome! Thanks for listening!
I do like Geoff Tate that high range vibrato is awesome and hes definately living in the moment of the song!!!
Vocality 👍👍👍
Geoff is great! No doubt about it!
I would too!
Saw the origional members in the 90s Empire toyr and Scott Rockinfiend drum set blew me away. Chris Gamo lead playing the bass low ends.
Awesome!
I saw Geoff Tate on his tour closer and on his birthday (1/14/23). He just owned that stage and even though this was the closer for the tour still could belt out the set strong from start to finish. I was so very impressed that he's kept up his ability into his 60's.
you're great Ken, your vids are awesome !
Glad you like them!
Rock on!
Tate,in a league by himself. My fav. So emotional n theatrical n dark I love it. . Ty quennsryche.🌿🌿
Queen of the Ryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyche!!!!!!!!
I can hear you!
She's coming for you.....
Yes!! Thanks Ken, I've been waiting for this! My dad raised me on progressive rock, and Queensryche was my first CD as a kid. Love Tate's broody but powerful vocals
Glad you enjoyed it, Jessica!
I saw them on their "Empire" tour. It was their first headlining tour. They did "Operation Mindcrime" in its entirety, songs from "Empire", and a few pre-Operation Mindcrime classics. It might be the only show I've ever been to that I can say was absolutely flawless.
Great to hear that!
Amazing tour - only one I ever saw in more than one city!
Rock On!
Thanks for weighing in, Alberto!
More if an Empire fan... That was the q r album that hooked me. Silent Lucidity...absolutely best rock ballad
It's a great one!
Rock on!
It's too bad I missed Queensryche in Colorado those times you saw them.
If you would like to know when a new video is going to drop you can sign up to receive updates at: kentamplinvocalacademy.com/get-notified/
Rock on!
That's awesome, KON KON!
I listened to Queensryche like a week ago for the first time (take hold of the flame in tokyo) and the first thing i noticed is that i could hear some Bruce Dickinson in Tate's voice as you said Ken! Phenomenal singers both of them
always very sharp analysis to the things
Thanks for listening!
You Rock👏🤘👏
Haha! Thanks!
Still a great band! 👍
I think I remember hearing some
Rumor/fact that for the lady wore black, he actually did sing the song by a solo lit candle so he could get the feeling and emotion just right. Don’t know if it’s true but wouldn’t surprise me
💜😀
Hands down my favorite band and vocalist of all time. From the second the EP came out I was hooked, truly phenomenal talent and so unique, nothing like them before or since. I saw them multiple times in the 80’s- early 90’s and was never disappointed, absolutely love their stuff to this day, it never gets old to me
Love hearing that!
I love Geoff Tate. This style seems so hard to perform at a high level over the years . Excellent video as always Ken !
Glad you enjoyed it, Steve!
Awesome!
Shame on you Ken for never seeing Queensryche..Lol. Geoff Tate is even better live and an unbelievable showman. I've seen them probably 8 times in NY and they were great everytime. Operation Mind Crime was one of the best records ever made.
Right?! My bad!
Roy Kahn sang with Kamelot and a band called Conception, both rock opera progressive metal type bands
Thanks, Joshua!
I'm a HUGE fan of Queensryche Ken. I've seen them 67 times in 7 different cities across America spanning from The Warning LP through American Soldier. IMHO no one could or has topped Tate vocally.
Todd La Torre is doing some great stuff fronting the band now...."Tough shoes to fill"{ lol
Todd just releases a solo LP 2 or 3 months ago that is most definitely worth a listen called " Rejoice In The Suffering"............He's the real deal!
Cheers from San Antonio,Tx Ken I, enjoy you channel wisdom, content and channel.
Thank you for the visit! Rock on!
