I switched to screws too but always had trouble with the screw tip getting clogged by concrete or dirt and getting stripped out. Finally I found the PERFECT SCREW! You’ve got to try the screws made for metal buildings that are 2.5” long. They have a 1/4” tip (that is a tip that is connected on the outside of the screw) it never clogs and I have ended up reusing these dozens of times if you collect them when stripping the forms. I’m hoping to start a trend in the pro concrete community using them. They’re not very expensive either and the fact that they are reusable is even better. Much love Mike! Keep up the good work
hey man i just got a job today std a concrete company here in NYC. im very excited to get starter and learn the trade. I'll be paying for your course with my first check on Wednesday to pick up some tips
Hi Mike, great vid. Ive used a lot of dewalt but prefer the bosch stuff for most tools now, find them better made for same price comparatively. Also as you are already aware the slab is only as good as the preparation already done, I would be concerned about the depth of stone/hard core and whether its been compacted correctly. I dont trust other peoples work. Good idea with steel pins though. Regards Jon
Great video. I have a question. I plan on doing a concrete parking pad. 20 x 12 wide. Could I make it 4 inch thick? Do I need rebar if I'm only parking a car? I will put gravel underneath as a base
Your link on what metal stakes you use isn't working. I bought a bundle of 18" just doing small slabs 20'×20' type stuff. Just curious if you use the 12" or not?
I appreciate your video I’m pouring a 20x24 slab in my backyard for a workshop and it will also have a bathroom 🚽 I will have the pipes preran then pour around it😎😎👍
Hi I'm pouring a 30x50 6inch thick concrete slab with a 20x12 footer and it's going on undisturbed sand and my question is do I need to lay a crushed rock subbase or can I just use a moisture barrier and pour ,thanks in advanace.
Are there any regulations about building a garage slab over an existing sewer line running through the property. For instance adding a garage slab spanning the width of a back yard with the sewer line running out the back of an existing home out under the slab and garage.
Hey Mike I just bought a building from Future building and it's a 20ft 30ft and it says that it need footing do I need to worry about it or can I just pour a 6 inch slab and be done with it. I live on a reservation so no code. And I live near Wiarton Ontario
Anyone; I have an existing shed/garage which is sitting on railway ties. I need to remove clay about 4ft b4 putting in a concrete slab. Do I also need to excavate under where the blocks will be?
Can I buy those pins at any hardware store Lowe’s, etc or do you make these pins. I have never done this and going to attempt it and don’t want to mess it up
Can you put a four inch high lip and 2 x 4 wide for the wall sill plate.on the outside walls. For a water block. Instead of nailing the floor sill plate to the concrete.
Now, our state has a code that says we have to put 2" styrofoam under all slabs 600 sq ft or more. Under 600 and just a good gravel base is good, slope all exterior back fill away from the slab. Never really have a problem if enough gravel is installed.
Hey Mike in this video you say your course is $49.99 and when I went to sign up to take it it ask for $97.. is there a coupon code or something for the $49.99? Thanks
Hey Mike, love the video. What's the minimum safe working temp for self leveling concrete / concrete resurfacing compound? I'm trying to restore my 9000 square foot body shop this winter and hoping I can have the floors done this month.
I'm trying to do a slab in my backyard for a small basketball court. Can I just do a 3000 psi concrete cause Its not like I'm gonna park any cars on it or anything
Hey Mike just subscribed. I live in Jersey. Wanted a garage built but it’s way too much. I looked into Pole Barn which I will probably go with if I don’t decide to move out of state. Where are you located. Excellent video tutorial
If you have a good compacted gravel base you can do a 6" slab. That's what we did on this one. It doesn't sound like there will be heavy equipment or vehicles on your slab. If so, then a thickened edge where the doors are is good.
Should there be some type of anchor with threads sticking up to hold the framed walls to the slab ?How is the building held in place on the slab if there are no anchors in place ?
What I want to know is where you get the cement? How to contact and figure out how much you need delivered? And who to buy it from? Not going to home Depot and buying bags and make mixing. I want to know who to contact to buy the cement direct and delivered? That's my question
Cool video! By chance, I did my garage slab exactly like this (I have videos posted). Six inch solid slab, up to 8" in most of the center where the ground was lower than the form edges. To those always screaming about footers and rebar - Those things are coded for longevity in the face of "frost heave," moisture, and full cracking. Here in NM, or as I call it "The Surface of Mars," these things are practically nonexistent. A slab this thick, for such a small garage, on such solid dry ground, will see decades without any issues. It just depends on the region. I imagine these guys know what they're doing. d-(^_^)
i dont know what New Mexico youre talking about... or if you know anything about mars.. but the surface of mars is freezing.. colder than anywhere on Earth
@@AndrewBrowner Mars is actually frequently warmer in places than some of Earth's colder regions in the winter. They can be surprisingly similar. That said, it was more of a reference to the lack of moisture. Frost heave is more a factor of moisture in the dirt freezing, expanding, and "heaving" the surface out of place from said expansion. We are one of the driest places on Earth, with heavily oxidized red soil, and fierce wind; making it a fair comparison to the surface of Mars. Which New Mexico are YOU talking about? :)
i dont understand what youre upto here, does the ground not need to be level prior to this step, from the cameras viewpoint looks like the far left corner is nearly a foot higher than the near right corner, if the forms arent level i dont see how you can pour to the top of them the lowest corner will be overflowing before the highest corner sees any concrete.. and if you screed it to the top of the forms youre going to have a rollercoaster of a slab

thanks for info
Mike, I appreciate the simple narrative you use to create this instructional video. I learned alot and apprecitate you.
Thank you so much for teaching, I really appreciate your support.
Kami,
You are very welcome
hey man i just got a job today std a concrete company here in NYC. im very excited to get starter and learn the trade. I'll be paying for your course with my first check on Wednesday to pick up some tips
do you still do concrete, how was the first year?
Start my new concrete job tomorrow. Wish me luck 😊
You got this

Mike for president!
Thanks man, have the materials and hoping to make a shed about same size soon. Thanks again for the effort of uploading and sharing with us
So is the right back corner 4 inches instead of 6 inch
could you build a small one floor house on a slab like this? without stem walls?
So no additional bracing needed?
I looked for your $49 course. Did you double the price?
Good video and more explanation than most
How much rock did you have under the slab?
Your link on what metal stakes you use isn't working. I bought a bundle of 18" just doing small slabs 20'×20' type stuff. Just curious if you use the 12" or not?

Here in Jamaica is more short handed out glad I watched this video cause I been moving to state soon, maybe I can apply for job at your company lol
Great video! Very informative. Thank you!!! 👍🏾
How much should a 20x40x6 in. Slab cost
Hi I'm pouring a 30x50 6inch thick concrete slab with a 20x12 footer and it's going on undisturbed sand and my question is do I need to lay a crushed rock subbase or can I just use a moisture barrier and pour ,thanks in advanace.
Love your videos
i tried odering those pins but the link was not working...what # pins were they?
Do 4 inch garage slabs need rebar
How many times will I have access to the course?
Good Video, Everything explained made sense. Learned a lot watching this. Thank you
When is a footing necessary
No footings, no foundation walls? I’m sure it’s ok, but will it pass the inspection?
how do I order the Metal pins and how much are the 3ft and 2ft and do they come in pack and how many?
How much does a slab that size run? (When done by a professional). 🌿
What about leveling the concrete 2 x 6 forms and what what about any slop in the slab for a drain? Great video's !
Level with laser or transit, and mostly no need for slope unless garage or outdoor. Looks like they will be framing on this.
Hello mike how much that cost ?
Are there any regulations about building a garage slab over an existing sewer line running through the property. For instance adding a garage slab spanning the width of a back yard with the sewer line running out the back of an existing home out under the slab and garage.
His course isn’t $50 anymore, now $97. Now that’s inflation!
Are you serious? 😂
$197 now!
Jeez

can you go into more detail on your process with the laser level?
i've got a few other videos talking about how to use a laser level.
How do you know the form is leveled thou.?
Thanks Mike. A lot of good info. Enjoy all your videos.
Can I buy those pins at any hardware store Lowe’s, etc or do you make these pins. I have never done this and going to attempt it and don’t want to mess it up
Love your videos! I have a question? What thickness of concrete slab should i use for my shop which is going to be used to hold my truck and trailer?
Can you put a four inch high lip and 2 x 4 wide for the wall sill plate.on the outside walls. For a water block. Instead of nailing the floor sill plate to the concrete.
What do you do for frost protection, just gravel base and float the slab cuz that doesn't pass the stupid codes in PA
Now, our state has a code that says we have to put 2" styrofoam under all slabs 600 sq ft or more. Under 600 and just a good gravel base is good, slope all exterior back fill away from the slab. Never really have a problem if enough gravel is installed.
What about footings?
How did you get the slab grade for your string line? Stakes set when you got there?
Hey Mike in this video you say your course is $49.99 and when I went to sign up to take it it ask for $97.. is there a coupon code or something for the $49.99? Thanks
That was when I first started the course, since then I've added a lot to it and raised the cost. There's a lot of great value in there for only $97.
How come this one doesn't have a 12" thick edge?
Great video and no bullshit just the facts and information. I’ll check the course out. Getting ready to pour a slab for my shop 40’x30’
Hey Mike where are you located
Greta video. Thank you.
You like the string in the center to check during the pour?
That's the only reason I can think of
Yes, we use the string to keep the boards straight.
Do you use square or circle stakes?
Hey Mike, love the video. What's the minimum safe working temp for self leveling concrete / concrete resurfacing compound? I'm trying to restore my 9000 square foot body shop this winter and hoping I can have the floors done this month.
Looks like decent grade work.
I'm trying to do a slab in my backyard for a small basketball court. Can I just do a 3000 psi concrete cause Its not like I'm gonna park any cars on it or anything
What type of foundation requires a footing? I never seen large slab on grade foundations without a footing.
What do you like the slump to be on a slab for a house?
very informative, thank you
Love you videos btw
What’s the cost for slab on grade per square ft?
Appreciate this bro
Hey Mike just subscribed. I live in Jersey. Wanted a garage built but it’s way too much. I looked into Pole Barn which I will probably go with if I don’t decide to move out of state. Where are you located. Excellent video tutorial
I'm in Maine.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. #awesome
Can you form a slab and pour concrete in a pre existing garage?
You could. Why?
Where do you get straight boards?
At the lumber company after going through about 50 of them to find 8.
What is your email I had a question about the course on your site
The whole vid I was like where the hell is the grade line, but u brought out the elec. last second lmao
Are footers necessary for 20x21 metal garage
If you have a good compacted gravel base you can do a 6" slab. That's what we did on this one. It doesn't sound like there will be heavy equipment or vehicles on your slab. If so, then a thickened edge where the doors are is good.
Why did your coworker pound that last pin in diagonally?
How soon do you apply the cure&seal after pouring?
If we apply cure & seal, it's done right after power troweling and sawing expansion joints.
nice work
Where I live at the country said garages need footer or pour the slab monolithic
Are's depends on the size and who the code enforcement officer is. They're all different around here.
20x24 I live in Virginia
Code said it haves to be footer and block or monolithic pour
The grading is warped...
.
Or your camera has the picture warped.
Should there be some type of anchor with threads sticking up to hold the framed walls to the slab ?How is the building held in place on the slab if there are no anchors in place ?
Some builders like the anchor bolts and some like to drill and anchor or tapcon the sill to the slab.
Drive the studs to the slab. Than frame the studs to the anchor boards. It’s a residential garage I assume.
So I'm an amature but why no footer?
How thick would your gravel bed be for a 4" pad?
Looks like you will need to take his instructional video course, Greg!
When he says,” The dirt work is already done when we show up.
Laborer, “ we need the pick to do some scratching!” lol
a trick : you can watch series at flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Spencer Wells yup, been using Flixzone} for years myself :)
How thick does the gravel bed have to be when you pour a 6" slab?
I like to see at least a 12" thick gravel bed.
What I want to know is where you get the cement? How to contact and figure out how much you need delivered? And who to buy it from? Not going to home Depot and buying bags and make mixing. I want to know who to contact to buy the cement direct and delivered? That's my question
Dont you have to dig 8 inches into the ground first?

whatever. Do it right and it WILL last forever.
I was sold on the course at 49 bucks. lost me at 97
Remember using the construction double headed nails.
That's why they have gradehubs
Hello ,Could you arrange your video in order .thank you!
learn lot from this video... but, I carry 3-4 piece lumber at time and walk lot faster than that... I wanna join your crew.
$49 for course? When I checked it was $97.
Yea, I've added more to it since then to make it better.
Is ok ,if i dont dig for a footings for my addition in my mobile home?
We don't normally dig footings for mobile homes, we just do 6" slabs
@@MikeDayConcrete ,tanks for answering.
If the mobile home is on a footing, you should put the addition on a footing if it is attached. If not, then no ;)
28x30 = 41 7/16 diagonal
94 people that gave a thumbs-down are upset that they didn't follow Mike's recommendations when they attempted to form their own slabs.
I felt like I was watching the Bubba Gump of concrete…
i dont understand what youre upto here, does the ground not need to be level prior to this step, from the cameras viewpoint looks like the far left corner is nearly a foot higher than the near right corner, if the forms arent level i dont see how you can pour to the top of them the lowest corner will be overflowing before the highest corner sees any concrete.. and if you screed it to the top of the forms youre going to have a rollercoaster of a slab
The ground doesn’t have to be perfect level. The top of the forms need to be level to screed the concrete
Meet or exceed
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to hire a concrete guy that does the excavating work.
J
No rat wall?? Won't rodents burrow under it and compromise the slab?? 🤔
get a better camera man
