Hey mate, great video as always. I'm hoping you can give me tips on finding a studio space. How have you found your current and past studio spaces? many thanks in advance
8:27 Careful man, don't makes your girlfriend sad because she hear this statement. 😂😂😂 Can you make honest review about this SSL2 after you use that to monitoring, record vocal or instrument (like guitar, voilin, synth or etc)? Because I want to upgrade my audio interface (Focusrite 2i4 First Gen) with audio interface who didn't need an extra power too (cause I like to produce everywhere) but have a plus value (compare with my old audio interface). And I consider to choose SSL2+ or 4i4 3rd Gen or did you have any advice? I will subscribe your youtube start from now 🍸😄 and wait for your honest review about SSL2. Thanks!
I have the Kali-6s and just got the SSL2+ yesterday...I love both. Can’t think of anything better for the price. Notice a big difference from my old focusrite interface.
Yorkville is one of Long & McQuade’s in-house brands, they’re a standard in Canada but not really in the US in terms of utilitarian cables and such (they made tube amps in the 60’s that are revered by some, maybe a few made it to the states). The nice thing about Yorkville cables is their lifetime exchange policy! If one ever stops working you can walk into L&M, give it back, and they’ll give you a brand new one. Even if you bought if 5 or 10 years ago. Pretty nice reassurance for myself. Welcome to Canada!
I was happy just watching the video until you said that we can't be friends if I use the RCA input :-( what else can I do with the Scarlett Solo and iLoud Micro Monitors? #sad
What did you think of this tweeter hiss? I just purchased a pair and instantly returned them due to the unacceptable level of hiss/noise floor (45db!) even with no input signal going into it. Probably going to save up a bit more and get some Genelecs. I am U.K. based too.
Great video thanks for doing it. Last few days i checked to see if you posted unboxing so am pleased you have now. I have Apollo twin duo mark 1. Just out of interest what issues were you having? is there anything to look out for?? Noticed few things re. Audio dropouts and having to reset etc...but want to spot any obvious signs before It gets to the stage you were at with smashing on the ground lol!!!
Looks like a great new space you're in! Looking forward to review of the SSL audio interface. I definitely do not think they have actual 4k preamps in that sucker though. If they did, I'd get it in minute.
@@bighousemusic628 I've since purchased one of these SSL2's. They're definitely not the pre's from an SSL 4000 E channel strip and these boxes definitely do not have transformers in them. It just has a Legacy 4K button that imparts "analogue colour enhancement, inspired by classic SSL consoles". It essentially adds a high-frequency EQ boost and subtle harmonic distortion. That being said, I still really like it! I think it's a great little portable interface. If you'd like to hear what it sounds like, I made a video using the SSL2 along with the SM7B - with and without a Cloudlifter CL-1. ua-cam.com/video/mAC8QTWrbaI/v-deo.html
I tend to suggest getting something with 4 inputs cos the price difference from the 2 input versions is sometimes as small as £30 or $50, so you get much more value for money with the 4 input version., which also you can use longer and grow with for quite a while before needing an upgrade, especially if you record several instruments or voices at the same time, e.g in a band or with other musicians, or have an arsenal of hardware instruments/microphones to record. So from that perspective. Low cost - Behringer UMC404HD. Have more money - Native Instruments Komplete 6 Have even more money - MOTU M4 Have a bit more money - SSL 2+ (but this one is a two input device with a reason to buy) this is an SSL - you can google what that means - top quality from one of the most renowned manufacturers of professional audio gear., who have made the best consoles for analog mixing and the best consoles for live digital mixing.
I think the SSL 2+ audio interface is a phenomenal achievement(I do have great expectations of this one, pretty sure SSL will not dissappoint cos they have a huge reputation to protect and c'mon, they make digital mixers costing over well over 50 grand (pounds) so they definitely have the know how and the quality manufacturing ability, and they are British - is there anything the British cannot do - hmm maybe get rid of Covid - not a funny joke), and one that anyone with a home/project studio and acquiring new, should aspire to own. This and the MOTU M4, are my pick of the better value priced audio interfaces. Prism eh. You;'re posh and loaded. Another Brit excellent product that the rest of us (hobbyists) cannot justify as an expense. I saw you response come in as I was writing this, that this is not a sponsored video - I respect that, and appreciate yoru full disclosure, now you have my full attention. I will really want to know are the Kali's that good, cos the hype - just so much noise about them on UA-cam, reminds me so much of the Equator D5's from many years ago, so much marketing - blah, blah, and after a few years no one talks about them anymore.. The big question for those who have been around for a while is - In a world where gear does not go bad, like I have had my Alesis M1 Mk2's for about 18 years, still in as new condition, and microphones which will most likely outlive me, is it not better to save up, buy some serious speakers like the Neumann KH80 DSP or their KH310's and not have to think about studio speakers again as a hobbyist, or if a professional, until you have the kind of dosh that comes with #1 hits like Stomzy has done, then you can buy anything you want like the Kii Audio 3threes... I did audition the Focal Alpha 65 and 80's quite a bit, and I thought they were the best of the budget bunch, i.e anything about £500 or less, per pair. There comes a point in the price curve where one just has to set a cut off, cos there is simply not enough margin for the manufacturer to put great sounding components, too many corners cut to meet a price. If is seems to cheap, is it worth the risk and waste of time. I speak from the context that most audio professionals or musicians will readily invest between £800 and £2000 to equip themselves with a good laptop or desktop or both, especially Apple snobs with their Mac Pros... Then they will skimp on monitoring, and it does not make any sense... Even with a cheap audio interface, the amount of audible distortion from a £100 audio interface is pretty negligible compared to ye old tape era, i.e most £100 audio interfaces are of a higher quality than anything Michael Jackson used to record Thriller, but the worst culprit in distortion measurements is the speaker, and this is where one should not skimp at all, yet having spent doo doo loads on a computer that does not add any distortion, and an audio interface with negligible distortion, they then try to save money and use a cheap speaker that adds the most distortion to everything they hear - simply does not make any sense....Its just physics, speakers all speakers. will add far more distortion than any decent audio interface!!
