- Ranchers are part of our history in these parts.
But we seldom see them, and even less often hear their stories.
We traveled to tiny Alzada, Montana to hear the true life tale of a lifelong cowboy.
#Montana #Rancher
I'm soon to be 69. When I grow up I'm gonna be a cowboy.
Right on, young man.I'm right behind you.
61 still kicking may God bless everyone enjoy life
😂😂😂
I live in Montana and have grown up here. This kind of life appeals to me so much. I hunt and fish with my dad and love the quiet open ranges and streams, and a lot of the people I’ve hunted with are ranchers or former ranchers. They’re all great people. A quiet life is sometimes the best.
My grandpa stayed in Wisconsin after his brother and parents moved to Noxon. They started a store and various businesses there. All I know of anymore is their descendants have an outfitter's there. My grandpa got mad at his brother and changed the spelling of our name from Weare to Weir. He never spoke of them. Just before he died, the nurses said he spelled his name like the original name. Sure enough, we still had relatives there and in Ord, Nebraska with that spelling. I learned more about grandpa's brother from bits and pieces of a book called Behind These Mountains that I saw on the internet. According to the book, my grandpa had a little brother that passed away from eating an apple that must have still had insecticide on it. Montana is so Beautiful!
@@ifsheisgonetowherethere6259 that’s such an interesting story! Thanks for sharing it w me😁
That way of life is the Icon of America, may it never end
Hard working, honest and genuine. Everything that you can respect.
A true man in a world that is sorely lacking in them.
aint no place like montana and the cowboys and ranchers there god bless them and love n prayers for them all.. cowgirl sweetpea
I worked on the Johnson ranch on the Blackfeet res some years back.
We ran 1600 pair and planted wheat , baled hay and all the things that ranchers do.
What a life.
I now have a small farm, like my parents did and at 68 I still enjoy the peace, the critters and especially birthing time.
Thanks Ed for sharing, too many city folk are letting this lifestyle fade away.
Very good video, and a very talented cowboy. Keep up the good work Ed. And thanks for sharing your story with us.
He's living the Good Damn dream! A true Man an Legend.
Eccentric Detectorist's Amen
As always your ending words are touching!
A Real American !
Nice to see Gents out there like Ed.
I would love a life like this. Pure heaven.
As a 25 year old, this is definitely the kind of lifestyle I want to have
Just do it, just recently I started wearing cowboy boots, belt/buckle, and a hat because why not? Society can't dictate what you do or how you do it as long as it's not illegal or harmful.
Being a cowboy isn't a birth right my friend, it's a mindset
THANKS 4 THIS VID I LOVE THIS LIFE GOD BLESS YA KEEP GOING
He looks good for his age. Time for me to start getting up early and drinking coffee.
Ninja k so you think that getting up early and drinking coffee makes one look good !!??
What a beautiful man!!
Pretty cool lifestyle. Lots of talents
AND A LOT OF WORK
As a 36 year old Filipino man i wish i could live and make a home in a place like this. Greetings from the Philippines.
Very Nice! Things like this I take with me!
My goodness he is a relic and I hope he's family learns the way and the brand he can teach to much. What I wouldn't give for a day of riding with him
Now this is cowboy cool.
50 hours???? 😳 I’ll buy one! That’s a work of heart.
good morning cowgirl I love your shades they look awesome on you may God bless you Wherever You Are🌷
Who ever disliked is a city folk
Yep
Jacob Stahl 😂
Staahhhppp!!! This cowboy is a kindred spirit!
The ranch life is the best life! I also do leather working too; it's a lost art.
Where he lives you make your own decisions, you are self motivated and you take responsibility for the results.
This is life I'd give it all up to be a rancher
Sadly not raised a rancher, but sure enjoy seeing a true Cowboy Rancher keep up the traditions.
I've got a lot of experience with horses 🐎 I've owned some, been a trail guide at 5 stables and a groom at a racetrack 😊😊😊😊😊
This a TRUE American soul.
Montana ranchers are a dying breed.
There is new blood in this spirit all over my world😁
Pretty spry for 73!!!...that cowboy way of life must be the secret.
@The Bohannon Cannon great comment. The war on all things animal keeps people alienated from real life. The claiming all things animal related as cruel scan easy lie to spread to those who have no life with animals.
How can I get in touch with him to buy some spurs?
He's my grandpa
There's lots of people like this, people just don't know about them because they don't leave the city. All over New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona there's these kinds of people. I'm sure there's plenty in other states, including California too. There's definitely fewer now, but still quite a lot. Everyone marvelling at him makes me laugh. He's very skillful, but not alone.
there are people like this in every state. If there's a cow in the state there's a cow poke workin em may not have a big ol operation but theyre the backbone of the country. Same with farmers
Talk about freedom.
How do I contact this gentleman?
Montana Ranchers and texas cowboys are still cowboys but totally different at the same time 🤠
After losing a rental in the small mining town of Marysville, I ended up (2.5 weeks in) on an 1850s homestead ranch SE of Ashland -- just a tad west 'n north of Alzada. NOT working it; renting from the aging legacy children happy with Billings. Still stunned daily only to see the vast hand tools, equipment and things necessary to carve out a life here. All I can do to mow back the jungle. Merely walking outside can stop you in your tracks by the beauty, howling coyotes or even the SNAPPING TURTLES that wander up from the pond. ("winter'? nah, it'll be fine." yikes!)
There are still cowboys out there, you just can’t see them from the road. Cowboys are as common as sin.
Every time they do one of these they act or literally say the last cowboy. Stupid.
Hope this wrangler is still going strong.
True cow boy old man.
Living the dream my dream someday
By the grace of God
Fuck yah would love rhat life style good 4 him and 007
I have hung around with those old boys. They have to have MBA skills to keep those places running even if they inherited them. Then there’s the stamina and physical strength. They could knock your blank straight. We’ve hauled cattle for them on a handshake.
He probably has to mechanic and butcher wood along with pulling calves.

Everybody wants to be a cowboy intill it's time to do cowboy stuff
True American. Sadly a dying breed. America is soon history.
Go to mexico & you’ll see a bunch of ranchers
Why they aren't no more outlaws on horseback !
Why so manny views !!!!!!!!
And they've tried telling us John Wayne was it...
I want to be a stable hand for this outfit 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Poor ranchers lol ill be happy to give you some cheese and crackers with your whine
Take away the horse and a cowboy is no more romantic than a ditch digger.
If he is a cowboy, where are the cows??
Its about whays in the heart first..Honor Respect for starters
I was born into agriculture back in 1977. Grew up on a irrigated cow place /crop farm now over in eastern Montana on a Dryland cow place no crop no haying and I notice less and less cow people. Being a transplant usually the daughters of a rancher bring home some "dude" and then they expand their ranch as far as male cowboys on our own ranch we are a dying breed my life summed up will be a fart in the wind.
