brexit, low taxes on the wealthy, uncontrolled immigration (and im the son of an asylum seeker saying this), one might have worked, but not all three..
I'm Spanish living in the UK; I literally ran away from Spain 15 years ago, mainly because of the scorching heat in summer times and the difficulties to find a job (which is even worse now). Taxes are horrible (freelancers have to pay lots of money even if they earn nothing), and the work culture is in general quite different (I think here work is much better); the current goverment is extremely corrupted and in friendly terms with some dictatorial regimes, and the amount of stupid regulations/taxes on companies is unbelievable (in goverment's eyes, companies are always evil opressors). Opening a company in Spain requires lots of red tape and I have friends that could never open a store (with everything bought, paying local rent and taxes every month) because the local townhall wouldn't give the permission to do so. The Canary Islands are even worse: they are 1700 km from mainland, with all the logistic problems involved (transport, time, customs), economy is mostly driven by tourism and population services (almost no heavy industry) and nepotism in politics is widespread (I grow up there, by the way). Sure, there are countries even more chaotic, and in general Spain is a safe, civilized place, but I would think it more than twice before leaving UK and going there to open a business, unless you want to retire or travel. The grass seems always greener at the other side of the fence.
100% correct. I'm from Spain also. Being in UK for the last 12 years moved for economical reasons. Id love to move back again but the psicopath PM is destroying further my beautiful country.
Es verdad. Spain is good for retirement, average life can be difficult as there's no jobs. I moved from UK as Spain is better for living but working is another matter. Salaries are so low and rents keep increasing, it's similar to the UK I agree. But I feel the UK is still far worse after Brexit and other things.
@@girldoes289 Never mind - a mean moaner will find something to moan about wherever they go - even the tax-evaders. Most of the people celebrating their departure from UK don't like paying taxes, don't like 'immigrants' (English-speaking white ones don't count), fell out with their boss and/or neighbours and/or wife, and/or haven't (yet) had a serious or prolonged illness. A lot wouldn't dream of voluntarily losing a UK citizenship/ NHS safety-net, either - unless it's obligatory if their UK residency status is checked (unlikely, if white and fluent), or return becomes more tax-efficient, if a right-wing, low-tax government ever returns to UK. (Such a government would probably starve the NHS to death, anyway.)
The irony is the UK had an awesome opportunity after Brexit to be a low tax tiger and an alternative to the EU. In the 50s the UK invented the Eurodollar market and made a fortune from offshore dollars. That put london on rhe map as a banking centre. After leaving the EU they could have become a haven for over taxed europeans to escape to. It's very sad what it became instead.
UBS wealth report states that HALF A MILLION millionaires will leave the UK by 2028 . After 26 years living in that dump I’ve left and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made !
So true, I lived in HK for a decade. It was great until the protests and COVID. The latter was horrific. I'm back in England and financially fortified.
When I left I signed a piece of paper to say I'm leaving and that's it, no tax. Now I travel around and pay zero tax, I have no domicile and no-one's looking for me. I have a USA pass-through LLC (they dont tax you if you live outside the US). Might buy a yacht and just live nowhere longer than a week
Hey have you considered settling anywhere? I spend up to 6 months per year in Valencia and I love everything about it, but not planning to get into their tax system, so looking for a 2nd homebase. Anything you liked?
Most people don't know this because African history isn't studied, but it was one of the main frontiers for Cold War proxy wars. As a result, a lot of Marxist ideas seeped into government administration and regulations. This is the main reason it's difficult to prosper in Africa. It's very strange that the UK has decided to adopt more and more Marxist/socialist ideas over the years when it never works (Maoist China, Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, Sub-Saharan Africa excluding South Africa, the list goes on). The universities are largely to blame for this because they push Marxist nonsense and the graduates go on to then implement this thinking in public sector roles.
Russians enjoy more disposable income. As an example, there is no inheretance tax, tax on property is NIL if you hold it more than 3years, and 15% if less. Employees tax is 13%, now I think 15% for all, now they introduce progressive up to 20% if you earn 1mil $. For self-employed and rental properties it’s 4% up to £24k pa. It’s very high threshold considering you can live very comfortably on £600/month and transport/no zones one way 50pence in Moscow. Free education, free healthcare, nursery is state subsidied (you pay 150-200£/ month for your child cared for 10-12h/day with 5hot meals prepared on site and 2hours nap time in their own bed, activities and plays). The problem with African countries is your top leaders are corrupt, they steal millions and nobody prosecute them. Corruption is everywhere, but at different scale in different countries. In Russia they will jail you for that, in China you’ll be executed by firing squad, in UK it’s done by more sophisticated ways: giving freebies, consulting jobs to politicians, no tax on MPs salaries and various allowances, salaries for life for lords.
Fascinating. They always say corruption is major blow to Africa development but I remember hearing from people who lived in communism that corruption was absolutely massive then so maybe the communism laws is what makes corruption flourish. Also despite what is advertises, communism is great at producing class of privileged elites, it was proven times and times again.

Yes. Geographical arbitrage. Move to an expensive high paying country for a few years and save all you can, living well below your means. Then move back to countries where the cost of living is 1/3 to 1/4 the price. Live good then.

The wealthy business owners, high earners who leave the UK are leaving a heavy burden on lower income population who don't have the flexibility to move (or don't want to). The ones who are staying supposed to contribute more for the country to be fixed, whilst the ones who have the resources to contribute more have no interest in doing so and just leave. How do you expect things to change for the better if the wealthiest aren't contributing? (this is a genuine question, I'm not judging anyone for leaving)
There's a difference between having the wealthy contribute their fair share to build a functional, sensible, high-trust society like Denmark; and killing the golden goose and the country out of idealism, short-sightedness, petty resentment, and incompetence, like in the UK. The wealthy and productive are leaving because of the excessive burden placed on them by destructive, expensive, wasteful policies imposed on the country by moronic leftists and a mangerial class that has collectively never done an honest day's work in their lives and refuses to engage with reality. Brits pay an obscene amount of taxes given the utterly sorry state of the country, and both the Labour and Tory parties are responsible for the waste. Billions wasted on overpriced energy, unproductive migrants, pointless foreign development and military aid. An almost £200 billion/year bill for a bloated NHS strained by unproductive sick foreigners, unusable by working people. It's gotten so bad that Labour wants to reduce the burden on the NHS from pensioners by offering them assisted suicide.
Only being discussed at present in Spain. Nothing manifested as yet. If passed, it will be the Economic destruction path that Spain will take. It looks like many Countries will have their own version of collapsing their economy whatever way they have been instructed.
Its crazy everywhere now. I was in France 9 years - moved back home around Brexit..... To shop there its crazy expensive... Every government is ripping us off or making us struggle everywhere we go.
Excellent comment, always good to see the other side of moving
The irony is the UK had an awesome opportunity after Brexit to be a low tax tiger and an alternative to the EU.
In the 50s the UK invented the Eurodollar market and made a fortune from offshore dollars. That put london on rhe map as a banking centre.

UK is $h!t... ( A sinking ship.)
Completely agree.
@@AlexAlcyone an astute observation and the real reason it's being pushed. Socialism is the fastest path to wealth consolidation and somehow, so many people buy the idea of an equal utopia. They're incredibly good at selling it.
