Yeah, I am definitely like you, have more fun tweaking my project every time I open it instead of making an actual finished track. For me, it's more like I create song environments that I can return to and play around in. I'm just a geezer who's not topping the charts anytime soon, so I don't really care about a final product.

I’d argue that if you set up your workflow and project correctly, you can’t help but finish a product each time. Ie. workflow example: save as the new project with a temp name, create a loop of a beat, experiment with some riff ideas and fill out your session view with some scenes, with different variations. Record those scenes to the arrangement whilst automating effects and improvising other sounds over the top. Take that final arrangement and fine tune, whilst adding bells and whistles and doing some sweeping mix production choices. Mix the overall levels from that arrangement and sit back to listen and consider what changes you’d make to it, then make the changes. Do a last tweak to the mix and some temporary mastering for your first “sketch” version, and hit save then export the arrangement. Then close ableton or start a new one. Any time you want to go back to a project just go through the list of exports and find the project with the same name as your export. My point is by keeping some structure to the experimentation, there will always be some kind of product at the end, which can be tweaked infinitely anyway, and rather than having to open the project every time you can listen to the exports much quicker.

@@lukeletonPlease re-read my comment. I don't want to listen to exports. I don't care about exports.I create song environments and jam with them live for my own amusement.

That's respectable, the fact that there are so many ways to use these programs is what makes them so special

We're in the post-12TET era at last! Didn't know about variations yet, brilliant. Like scenes in Cirklon.

About #5: I think it was already possible to change multiple note’s chance. The big new thing here is making note groups and use the Play Once feature.

ha, I should say on the tuning site - though I think I went further into that announcement at launch, too! very excited to talk about this more; long been friends with some of the folks who worked on it and was frankly surprised and thrilled this got as much attention as it has!

Doesn't the flat/sharp icon at the resonators in Meld mean it's aware of the selected scale instead of the tuning? Or is that related to each other?

Damn shame you can't assign a midi note to more then one chance group at a time...... I'd been requesting chance groups since before they even implemented chance in Abe 11; yet it's a bit too half-assed to get me excited.

Have been using Ableton 12 for 3 days now, and I’d say you need to actually spend time with it to realise how much better it is, the updated browser and tagging system alone makes it worth the upgrade for me, also having the mixer in arrangement view, and the similar sample swap has led me to discover samples and drum rack combinations I didn’t even realise I had in my sample library. There’s a certain intuition that comes about with this release for creating “happy accidents” through experimentation and the entire interaction with Ableton feels much more integrated and reactive, especially with a push 2 (I haven’t got a push 3… yet) When I look through the marketing for Ableton 12, they do seem to be pushing the idea of this version promoting exploration and “surprising yourself” with the sounds your create, which is great because we tend to value the sounds that happen accidentally as they feel more novel and unexpected than what we plan deliberately.
