This is the kick in the butt I needed to finally ditch the smokes! Everyone says put your own health first but knowing that every smoke I have is the result of cruelty is way more important than myself.
We used to smoke as non-vegans and quite long before we went vegan. If we were still smoking when we went vegan, we would have quite then. We definitely don't see smoking as vegan. We were actually shocked and saddened to see vegans smoking at a vegan event a few years ago :( Great video with a heap of information! Thanks :)
many tabaco companies don't use animal and dont have animal producs in their tobaco like Flandria , what about the alcohol i can nt drink ? i'm vegan not healthy . i don't use animal products if one thing don't have something like that why is not Vegan?
+Nicolas Bouvier Oh come on... you should be allowed to harm yourself as much as you want AS LONG as it harms no other living being. When you ban something it only drives it underground to the black market. There's already enough things illegal... like cannabinoid oil that cures epilepsy in children, hemp, magic mushrooms. Instead I'd like to see HUNTING and KILLING or ENSLAVING or TORTURING ANIMALS FOR ANY REASON become illegal!
+Lone Wolf Vegan Warrior As +tazydevil93 said, smoking doesn't just harm the smoker. It's harming all the people around, it's harming the planet and the people who work on tabacco. And it's harming directely animals because of the tests on them. Smoking can't be supported by any logical statement.
+Nicolas Bouvier The laws already prohibit public smoking most places. Do you want SWAT teams to come inside people's homes to seize cigarette packs? If somebody wants to smoke in their own house, that's their business. I used to smoke so I know what a hideous addiction it is. Bottom line, you can't just keep shoving prohibition laws on everybody, it's already been proven not to work.... the prisons are already 3/4 full with non-violent cannabis smokers. Wouldn't you rather have animal abusers in there????? Or longer terms for rapists????
I started smoking when I was 13 and quit when I was 33, so yes, 20 years of smoking. I did it cold turkey and it's been 10 months now. It's the second best thing I've done for my health, second only to going vegan. =^^=
+Disco Nouvo Yeah, I still enjoy some of your earlier videos. I mean it is give and take situation. I mean you were funny and I liked the faster pace, but these newer videos do reach a broader audience and the slower speech probably makes it easier for people to understand and absorb the information.
Another incredibly enlightening video ! I had no idea you could find animal products in cigarettes - as a non smoker, I never really cared about that repulsive habit but after watching this nugget, it disguts me even more. Thank you for your amazing work, Emily - you're definitively the best !
Thanks for the information! I love the way you synthesize all that info and put it into a small awesome video :D I used to be a smoker, I smoked for 11 years of my life!!! I quit about a year before I went vegan but smoked occasionally with friends. Being vegan has completely helped me staying away for good from smoking, now I don´t even feel like I could go back. Well, thanks again for the vid! Always peace and love!
So glad to hear that you quit! And also really glad to hear that you enjoyed my videos. I try really hard to break it all down into your digestible pieces. It's probably the hardest part of all of it. Yay for being vegan and smoke-free! Much love :-)
I'm grateful for the Dutch subtitles, otherwise I don't think my mother would understand the whole video. She's trying to quit smoking and I hope this nugget of info will motivate her some more :) Bedankt!
great video. wanted to say that i used to smoke close to 10 years. 2 weeks after my transition to vegan i stopped smoking cold turkey. i was kind of surprise myself how that happened since i was smoking pack a day for 10 years. i am not sure if it had any psychological factors behind it ( becoming vegan and working out) but i did it. smokers do your best to quit, for yourself and animals and environment. it worth i. p.s. havent touched a cigarette since i quit and still no craving for it.
I went vegan a few months ago and also thought of quit smoking though I didn't succeed the first time after your video I'll try again and this time quit for good. So thank you for that (:
I WILL NEVER touch a cigarette . I went to this resturaunt once and this woman had a newborn who looked like it was probably only a week old . She had it laying on her shoulder sleeping . While it was sleeping she pulled out a cigarette and smoked right by its head and it was breathing in the smoke.i couldn't handle watching her do this so I left and never have come back to the resturaunt
what's mind blowing is that it really wasn't that long ago that companies and people tried to say that smoking wasn't bad for you. I'm sure there are several arguments shared between this and the meat eating camp such as, "people have been doing it for a long time" and "I know someone who ____ and they are superfit".
I went vegan a long time ago and quit smoking when I did. I recently started casually smoking and I hate it... so... I've completely quit again. Videos like this help keep me strong and continue to encourage the lifestyle I've chosen. Supporting/informing/encouraging other vegans is so important. Thank you sincerely for this video.
I've been vegan for a year and I still struggle with smoking. I quit for a few days, then break, then cycle through again and again. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do and I don't know how to stop.
Emily thank you. I don't think you even realize how much of a blessing you are, or how much you influence people's lives for the better every single day. This video is everything I needed right now. I sorta wanna cry and sorta wanna come find you so I can give you the biggest hug. Please never stop doing what you're doing... The world needs you.
This was very very informative Emily, thank you! I quit smoking cigarettes 4 years ago and have not looked back once. I quit for heath reasons for myself and my son. The first 3 days are the hardest. I watched all of the UA-cam commercials including the one where a little boy was left in the airport by himself for like 30 seconds or a minute and how he was terrified because his mother disappeared. Remember that one?? anyway, that and heavy exercise for weeks helped me quit. Every time I craved a cigarette, I did like 30 jumping jacks. Now that I'm a vegetarian (working on going vegan) I am more interested in the environmental effects of the tobacco industry. Thank you for sharing.
Hi again Emily. I can't get this video out of my mind. So, I'm not going to change brands until I can quit. I can quit now, so I will. Thank you again for the work you put into these videos. Wish me luck!
Imperial tobacco brands don't test on animals and all of the ingredients used for their products are listed on their website, based on the market for every individual product. For instance Drum natural flavour tobacco is added flavours free in my country and I use that one, just in case one of the flavour additives might be castoreum. I know smoking is bad for you, but it is a personal desicion after all and when deciding what to smoke (if you do ofcourse) should be an informed desicion, so there is as little as possible unnesecery suffering. Also if you smoke please don't smoke next to your pets, it effects them much more than human beings.
U are amazing !!! First, I was stunned to learn of so much of this. But, I'm also always amazed by how u get all the facts & bring up so many vital points that affect everyone - vegan or not. Thank u so much for this !!!
This was really good info, I still smoke :( I did NOT know all the information that you covered in this video! PS. I liked the little "Not the other stuff that ppl seem to assume... all vegans... smoke..." hahaha that was cute :)
Emily can you please do a video on Macdonalds french fries. I thought they were vegan but i just read an article abou them containing natural flavor wich is a derived from milk.
+Dina Gonzalez I don't think you can trust any packaged food. Just eat whole foods...bananas, papaya, mangoes...then you know you are on the right track :)
well, i considerd smoking vegan till 5 minutes ago. im shocked i didnt know... i ques i did not want to know mabey! thank you for this video! i will never touch a sigaret again. i dont smoke reguarly, just in the weekend.... but never again!
I'm so glad to be free from nicotine dependence! I quit nicotine and tobacco for the health of my animal friends and self. Wish I never started because even free from the nicotine I still sometimes crave a smoke or get jelly of other smokers but then I take a deep breath and give thanks that I'm finally free. It helps that I smoke cannabis before bed so I got to keep the best part of smoking without any of the negatives. No more shallow breathing or smokers cough, no stink, no burn holes, no withdrawal, no desperate cig brakes out in the cold wind and rain, no more ashy floors or yellow walls, no more poisoning the air of my loved ones! If I ever feel the irresistible urge coming on I'll get a pack of those nicotine free non addictive cigarette alternatives until the stupid passes because I'll never go back to being addicted again. I know even a drag would be to much. I hope people stop getting hooked in the first place and just smoke something else instead if you must because nicotine addiction is worse than anything. The best way to quit is not to start and quit while your ahead
do you have a regular job, or is youtube your job? considering the time you put into the making of the videos I wonder how you can fit it all into one day... cause you work out as well, and have friends
I wish you could do this video in german. My mother and boyfriend are both smokers and I wished they could see this video but their english is really bad and when I tell them something they don't believe it as much as when someone else says it :c But anyway, thank you so much for making this video! I'm glad to know all of this now!
+IWillBeBlessed You can always add translated captions to any of the videos- just go to the bottom of the description to the link that starts with amara.org and you can translate away! If you don’t see the link, go to amara.org and click the “subtitle video” at the top menu, enter the video’s address and go to work! :) They will auto sync to the channel when your’e done! If i had the time/better vocab, i'd love to do all my videos in German
Hey Emily! thanks for all the research, but I was wondering why you didn't mention any tobacco alternatives which are not derived from animal products, like for example when you roll your own cigarettes, here in Europe there's a brand called pueblo which neither tests on animals nor uses animal ingredients. and for filters and papers there is a brand called ocb. a lot of people will or cannot stop smoking easily, so I'll always recommend to at least change the product.
+clara zeo i apologize for the oversight. I realized that at the end of editing but didn't have the time to refilm and add it in unfortunately. Always frustrated when that happens. Thanks for pointing it out--helps me improve.
+Bite Size Vegan thanks for the fast reply! Yes I just wanted to say it because people should know that there are alternatives without directly damaging animals. the animals and humans harmed for getting tobacco is another thing, but then that's a big problems for cacao and coffee too. Anyway thanks so much for all your work, you make a big difference!! :-)
I am vegan and I do vape as a way to deal with anxiety, colon stasis and a few other sensitive gut issues that years of misdiagnosis and improper treatment gifted me with. I won't claim it is healthy but for me taking the nearly dozen pills to combat these issues that a combination of going vegan and a few self medication items like vaping allowes me to get off. Is vaping vegan?
PSA to all vegans or those transitioning to veganism that are also simultaneously addicted to cigarettes, American Spirits are vegan, not any less dangerous in my opinion regardless of it being the more natural option, but definitely worth the extra few bucks to not have to debate on your moral alignment with being vegan and smoking cigarettes.
I had to stop watching after you talked about the beagles, I can't handle it. I promise I will never buy another cigarette. These poor humans, who make their living by doing this. They must be so damaged inside. Their hearts must be broken. Even if they have gotten used to it or convinced themselves there is a valid reason for it, it can't sit right inside of you. Your real inner you knows how wrong this is. THIS is why animal rights is human rights! No one should have to turn off their moral compass to make a living!
Thank you SO much for making this video. (And all your others.) There's a vegan restaurant in Paris were people are ALWAYS out in front smoking, and it just.... GAAAAAH. Sharing this. 🙏🏼
I'd love to hear your thoughts/ response to the recent e-cigarette trend. The juice used in most ecigs is a mixture of PG (propylene glycerine) and VG (vegetable glycerine), nicotine, and various flavorings. Is it vegan? :-)
I want to try a cigarette. I know how bad they are but I don't plan on making it a habit nor could I afford it. So why not try one for the hell of it? The least I could do is get the American Spirit ones without all the added chemicals.
Go Emily! Vegan smokers are on the wrong track thinking it's simply a plant (with lots of chemicals), it's not only about exclusively not being cruel to other species and/or polluting the environment of others around you. It's all about loving yourself and taking care of your magnificent lungs too! - weed smokers should also take care of their lungs, use a bong, buy a vaporizer :)
I hope the glue binding all of these studies together is vegan, as well as the paper. So far for the past month I have stopped eating all animal products,... it's been a little rough,... good thing I had my nicotine crutch. :| (Ive tried vaping, patches, and gum).
people who have really good control over themselves tend to be vegans. others who do not care about anything , no matter how much information we provide, are so reluctant to change. So if anyone is vegan and smoking, it is very easy for them to quit. coz they are already aware enough to be vegan. Quitting smoking is one more step in the right direction :-) great video Emily ☺ ☻ ☺
Smoking is an addiction to a drug. It is not easy to quit at all. I've done it. Thought I was gonna lose it and hurt someone. Knowledge is great, but it's not always power.
Amber Myers temptation can be hard not to succumb to. But the moment u say that this addiction is hard to quit, the moment it gets more difficult. Meat-eating is also an addiction. We dont need it at all. but we do it anyway. Vegans give up their meat and cheese addiction to conform to a healthier lifestyle. More people give up smoking in contrast with people become vegan on average. So giving up smoking is more common than going vegan. I gave up a lot of addictions. because I knew ultimately it was me who had the willpower. :-)
+Sudipta Das very good point. I guess, honestly, that I am dreading quitting smoking. Becoming a vegan was a little difficult but with the animal cruelty pictures I have in my head, it became a lot easier. I guess I need to extend some of that compassion to myself and quit smoking Bc it's killing my health. I think I'm in the denial phase. Next comes acceptance :). Peace to you and the animals.
Amber Myers wow.. U are convinced already :-D I wasnt really expecting u to be convinced that easily.. But yeah, when we do things for other(animals) we are more driven to do the right things. And being the best example always makes others to come to this lifestyle. so quitting all the bad habits is gonna attract people, who really wanna do something good and leave a legacy behind, to this lifestyle. peace my friend :-)
Damn, I guess i'll have to quit. i actually thought it was vegan so i still continued to smoke even after giving up meat, dairy and eggs. I turned vegan for the planet and the animals, not my health.
OMFG who decided it would be a good idea to put BEAVER ASS in flavourings!?? Wtf. "Hey joe I just killed a beaver" "Oh.... Lol wouldn't it be funny if we put its ass in this raspberry flavour I'm trying to make?" "Hahah yeah". And thus, beaver ass flavourings were born.
Smoking is not vegan. It's not necessary and killing animals to grow tobacco is wrong. Testing animals is not vegan. Animal products in them is not vegan. Smoking is not VEGAN great job on the video!
Veganism is as much a life style and philosophy as it is a dietary choice. It embraces morality, ethics, and environmental concerns as well as health. This being true makes it blatantly obvious that smoking tobacco or weed is definitely not vegan.
This is just wrong. Smoking is so unnecessary and horrible ... but the truth is I don't really judge people who smoke. It doesn't make me upset when I see someone smoking. It does upset me when people eat animal products, specifically meat.
So is smoking roll ups or roleys or whatever you call it in america (From the uk here) vegan? I've only been vegan 3 weeks from 2 years veggie but it's insane the amount of stuff you have to look up. Almost everything i've ever ate i have had to look up for an email or company confirmation that no animal bi products were used. You say cigarettes have pig fat, beaver asshole and whatever else in it but i only smoke roll ups. Do those have the same stuff in ? there's no filter... So just hit me with environment facts relating to animals and i don't have to research this much further lol. thx guys/girls
This is the kick in the butt I needed to finally ditch the smokes! Everyone says put your own health first but knowing that every smoke I have is the result of cruelty is way more important than myself.
trust me i went vegan for the animals and now im quitting smoking for the animals lol
How are ya'll doing... 'Bout to quit... For the animals 🤷🏾♂️🤯... Who would have thought 😅
I'll quit for the animals. :( Don't give a shit about my own health.
Good for you
SnerpdeDerp I really respect that :D
We used to smoke as non-vegans and quite long before we went vegan. If we were still smoking when we went vegan, we would have quite then. We definitely don't see smoking as vegan. many tabaco companies don't use animal and dont have animal producs in their tobaco like Flandria , what about the alcohol i can nt drink ? i'm vegan not healthy .
i don't use animal products
if one thing don't have something like that why is not Vegan?
Amazing work
For me, smoking can't be considered "vegan" and I'm still wondering why is it legal.
+tazydevil93 Hehehe. It's the veganest.
+tazydevil93 I was refering to ciggarets. If someone wants to smoke weed or something else it's not my problem, nobody tests weed on animals.
The person that found out that castorium tastes like raspberries must been a freak. Who willingly eats beaver ass glands?
+TheAtheistPaladin i know!
How is this not illegal?!
+ObamaoZedong Animal testing is a huge money maker (if that's what you're referring to).
I started smoking when I was 13 and quit when I was 33, so yes, 20 years of smoking. I did it cold turkey and it's been 10 months now. It's the second best thing I've done for my health, second only to going vegan. =^^=
+TheVeganTrix so glad that you quit! it's by no means easy...well done!
+Bite Size Vegan yeah it's defines not easy but totally worth it. It grosses me out now
Wow,
I'm even more glad I quit now.
Thankyou Emily
^_^
i love the early bsv stuff. please stop putting it down. the early vids are humorous, edgy and fun. who told you they are not good?
+Disco Nouvo Yeah, I still enjoy some of your earlier videos. I mean it is give and take situation. I mean you were funny and I liked the faster pace, but these newer videos do reach a broader audience and the slower speech probably makes it easier for people to understand and absorb the information.
+Disco Nouvo hehe ;) I just enjoy self-deprecation. ;D
@@BiteSizeVegan i dont smoke i vape because i give a crap about animals and vaping is less harmful than ciggrettes
Another incredibly enlightening video !
I had no idea you could find animal products in cigarettes - as a non smoker, I never really cared about that repulsive habit but after watching this nugget, it disguts me even more.
Thank you for your amazing work, Emily - you're definitively the best !

Yep, smoking is definetly not vegan!

I've stopped because I'm having a pregnancy scare rn even tho I have a birth control implant (I've read it is possible)
vape instead
daft mell I'm not a douchebag 😂😂😂
vaping has nothing to do with being a douche.
As a straight-edge vegan, I highly approve of this video.
You and me both 👏

Wow... I love your work Emily and will definitely be sending some cash your way xx
Ummmmm..... Yeah. I think *everyone* in the world needs to watch this video.

how about vaping? Is it vegan? I never thought about this....

I won't claim it is healthy but for me taking the nearly dozen pills to combat these issues that a combination of going vegan and a few self medication items like vaping allowes me to get off. Is vaping vegan?
I quit smoking over 5 years ago. Thank god for that! Then a year ago i went vegan. Best choices ever!
+K B awesome!! :)
are smokes you roll yourself animal free and the filters used?
Love your work!
+M Bunt thanks so much!
thats a great video, very complete and educative!
+Hymy18 thank you!
You've inspired me to quit smoking. This is going to be hard...
Thanks for posting this video. You have just made it very easy for me to give up smoking. I will always put animals before me. Peace ✌️
i have a really good question
Why are cigarets legal?
I'd love to hear your thoughts/ response to the recent e-cigarette trend. The juice used in most ecigs is a mixture of PG (propylene glycerine) and VG (vegetable glycerine), nicotine, and various flavorings. Is it vegan? :-)
what about vaping?
I hope this video was another great reason for somebody to quit this horribly disastrous habit
I want to try a cigarette. I know how bad they are but I don't plan on making it a habit nor could I afford it. So why not try one for the hell of it? The least I could do is get the American Spirit ones without all the added chemicals.
What about e-cigs (from tanks & mods, not cig look-a-like's)?
Hey Em. Is vaping vegan?
Would this include dip and snus?
I'm a vegan and I Vape. I use organic liquid and have dropped my nicotine more than 3/4ths. I don't see anything non vegan about vapor.
Loved this!
would loooove it if you did one of these on pearls?? :o
Yeah I'm pretty close to quitting, fucking drugs, if I could take it back I wouldn't have even smoked weed.
+Baron Ockslite go for it ;)
Whatever you do don't google 'Phillip Morris tobacco testing'...
Smoking is just bad all around. It's a waste of time, money, and health. I smoked for 6 years now I haven't had a cigarette in over 5 years.
+Natural Nicktrition so glad to hear that!
I quit smoking and went vegan within weeks of eachother
+Mary Thomas awesome :)
I hope the glue binding all of these studies together is vegan, as well as the paper. So far for the past month I have stopped eating all animal products,... it's been a little rough,... good thing I had my nicotine crutch. :| (Ive tried vaping, patches, and gum).
how about Cigars?!
yourmaking me feel ralbadabout my morning smoke rn
Emily, Do you smoke?
I don't think any self respecting vegan should smoke.
people who have really good control over themselves tend to be vegans. others who do not care about anything , no matter how much information we provide, are so reluctant to change. So if anyone is vegan and smoking, it is very easy for them to quit. coz they are already aware enough to be vegan. Quitting smoking is one more step in the right direction :-) great video Emily ☺ ☻ ☺
+Sudipta Das so glad you liked it thank you! :)
And being the best example always makes others to come to this lifestyle. so quitting all the bad habits is gonna attract people, who really wanna do something good and leave a legacy behind, to this lifestyle. peace my friend :-)
lol it's so weird seeing these cigarette ads... they really made people think smoking was okay?!😬😬
What about hookah and cannabis?
+Informant I have those on the list for another video :)
And thus, beaver ass flavourings were born.
great vid!! :)
+Hey There Harlee thank you!
Do I really need to be discriminated for being Ovo-vegetarian who will not give up on smoking. Cause I'm special.
"tossing a beaver's salad". you've come a long way to child-friendly videos X)
Um does it count as non vegan if your testing medicine for animals
+87_mangle _87 I have a video on that here: Is Medication Vegan?: bit.ly/1QxjIeX
do a weed vid pleeease
👍
It's funny how they only tell. Is not to smoke because of put health and for NO OTHER FUCKING REASON
NOOOOOOOOO!!! Well, another reason to quit. Looks like it's back to dip. I like running better than smoking anyway.
You are amazing
This is just wrong. Smoking is so unnecessary and horrible ... but the truth is I don't really judge people who smoke. It doesn't make me upset when I see someone smoking. It does upset me when people eat animal products, specifically meat.
They have Vegan papers made by the company RAW and yeah, Weed is vegan as far as I'm concerned.
Okay, that's disgusting.. I'm quitting ASAP!!
I love your castorium video
+Lama Jigme Gyatso: the Rational Contemplative ;D
IS WEED VEGAN?
So is smoking roll ups or roleys or whatever you call it in america (From the uk here) vegan? I've only been vegan 3 weeks from 2 years veggie but it's insane the amount of stuff you have to look up. Almost everything i've ever ate i have had to look up for an email or company confirmation that no animal bi products were used. You say cigarettes have pig fat, beaver asshole and whatever else in it but i only smoke roll ups. Do those have the same stuff in ? there's no filter... So just hit me with environment facts relating to animals and i don't have to research this much further lol. thx guys/girls
i feel like u got 5's on your AP lang and lit essays
+Dorthy Savage HA! i think i got 4s actually....can't remember though...
So if you grow your own tobacco...that is vegan, yes?
vegan smoker here, american spirits are the way to go if you smoke.
