2:54 gross generalization, I hv been to so many weddings, I hv nvr seen the bride with covered up veil, in fact in many states brides dress up very royally and do wear make up on the wedding day, everyone who comes to wedding takes photos with brides , even in rural places. The veil thing is mostly in very few states in northern India. And muslim weddings are very diff from Hindu weddings , in my state in Muslim weddings the couple don’t even sit together, there is a separator deviding the wedding stage for men and women. The backwardness in India is limited to some places, but of course the west wants to fantasize that whole of India is like that.
The worst culprits are Rajasthani culture. The bride is required to be in ghoonghat in front everyone the time she spends in sasural. Was surprised when my friend who used to rides bikes, was an MBA graduate who grew up in Tamilnadu was in ghoonghat the entire time. I'm talking about 2024.
Why majority of Oscar winning movies are American made hollywood movies??? Because oscar is an American award show. Stop pitting it as some sort of international award.
Oscar isn’t given to the best movie of the year but to the best movie among the most popular movies and hollywood promotes and release their movies across countries and that’s why hollywood movies are most famous and have the most probability to win it
Indian movies are so diverse and even great film here can't get all type of audience. Also, academy won't try to understand any culture (indian, japanese, chinese etc.) They just think what's trending and feels them good. It's very tough for us, but it's ofcourse not most important.
Unfortunately it didn't won at the finals because of the name change, I guess.. from lapatta ladies to lost ladies. Its a story related to rural India toh naam bhi Laapata Mahilayen rakhtein film ka..
An Indian documentary did win the best documentary Oscar. I wish we consider documentaries at par with movies. Elephant Whisperers was in no way less Indian. It was an Indian tale loved by one and all around the world!
AR Rahman winning Oscars for Jai Ho while it is not even his Top 5 best composition tells Oscars is for American [English] movies. And I am not even Indian defending this.
Lapata ladies is a nice film and I'm happy it was successful, but its in no way oscar worthy. I don't think that a nice message is enough to pivot a film to sn Oscar. There were better indie films which were actually taking bold steps in filmmaking and had something new to say, but too bad they weren't backed by amir khan. Still i wish them luck
BS. Aamir is no more or less insecure than any other actor, worldwide. Actors , by very nature of their profession tend to be insecure. And Aamir is all right for the most part He wears his heart openly on his sleeve , speaks earnestly, frankly, empathetically, sensibly. There are worse ppl around. Ppl who term him insecure are either fans of rival stars or those who have bought into the negativity created against Aamir for political reasons through past decade..
Laapata ladies is an okay movie, it's not oscar worthy movie though, if this is oscar worthy, then every Ayushman Khurana movie is oscar worthy, there are so many other movies that needed to be nominated by our committee, but i guess naah, they are either too corrupted or too high to see that, sardar udham, was a movie, that could've actually won something, the screenplay of that movie was oscarworthy, but the committee is just too tired to look at deep nuanced movies, all they want is surface level stuff.
Ayushman Khurana’s movies usually veers into melodrama which the Academy and critics outside India scoff at. Far from nuanced filmmaking. Laapataa is an extremely well made film, but you are right, it’s not Oscar-worthy. The film that should have been selected is Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light. Comparable to the finest works of Wong kar-wai. As for Sardar Udham, it’s a well shot film and that’s about it. The best film Shoojit Sircar has made till date is October. Only film of his close to world class quality. And I’m not saying it, it’s Shoojit himself who has said it. That film was poetry and also so nuanced. But again none of them Oscar-worthy.
Oscar is given or nominated to movies which shows indians poor, hungry, illiterate which they love to see such as slumdog, lagaaan, lapata ladies. Its as simple as that.
Amir Khan is a good actor but not good enough to win an Oscar yet. Indian movies still lag far behind in terms of quality and story when it comes to attracting international audience. Long way to go tho.
Not really. Look at the movie 'Green book'. It's retelling the age old issue of racism, yet it won the Oscar. Oscars are more about publicity than the story. India hasn't won't yet because the production houses can't match the PR budget of movies from other countries. Aamir is filling that gap with Laapata ladies.
@@alvinvazha1144 exactly there are so many actors in the west even in east asian countries who can't act that gr8 but still are plauded by our indian audience just cause they know how to hate their own people only and we do have gr8 actors actually a many who are applauded by producers and directors world wide and india we even take micro expressions seriously so i donno why such people have the mentality about indian actors

why is bbc interviewing him and not Kiran?!c wtf
You hardly asked him about his upcoming movies and which movies he is currently acting in
Cant believe he is almost 60. He looks like 40
Why not interview the director?
Why do all the Aamir Khan interviews around Laapata Ladies feels the same? Almost same questions and same scripted answers
Ofcourse, interviewers won't have any idea what to ask about the plot..they are clueless
